Why I want to go to YAMAGATA ????️⛩️ (Tohoku, Japan)
What's in Yamagata? Here's what there is to do there, around Sendai and this area of Tohoku in Japan, as well as where to stay and train passes that could save you money.
Yamagata prefecture's only a couple of hours away from Tokyo on the bullet train, so it'd be easy to spend a few days in Tokyo, then move north to Tohoku for a few days and see a different side of Japan, in the countryside and the mountains. Here's my wishlist of things I'd like to do there, including Yamadera, a temple in the mountains with a beautiful view, Ginzan Onsen, Mount Zao and its snow monsters, a wasabi farm, a sightseeing river cruise and local specialties: Yonezawa beef, cherries and soba noodles.

She visits the scenic temple Yamadera. 1000 stones step lead to the top of the mountain where the visitors are rewarded with some of the most breathtaking views of the autumn foliage in Japan. After the hike, Shizuka stops by Enzou, a local restaurant, where they serve Yamagata's specialty: Ita soba aka soba on a board.
The adventure continues in Yamagata city, where Shizuka sets out to explore the city's nightlife. She visits three authentic izakaya restaurants in Hottonaru Yokocho, where visitors can truly get a grasp of Yamagata’s flavors after dark. Diving into Yamagata’s scrumptious seasonal specialties and locally brewed sake, Shizuka meets some of the friendliest locals and together, they enjoy an exciting night full of laughter and good food!

↪ P.S.: If you hate zoo environments or any sort of animal enclosure no matter if the conditions are well and good (as per what I witness during my visit), I suggest that you don’t visit this place or it will make you uncomfortable. As for me, I just try to keep an open mind; plus, I don’t immediately shun every animal park, especially if the animals are well-cared for (unless it's otherwise — do let me know). If it helps to note, foxes are one of the few animals who don’t suffer any type of stress when under captivity — but of course, I do know that it's ideal to rather let them be in the wild...
Yet again, their chances of survival in the wild is very slim especially with today's times. Looking at the facts, a fox in the wild has an average life span of 2-4 years only because of diseases, hunting practices and road accidents; but in places like this Fox Village, they can live up to 14 years. (Besides, you cannot imagine the number of people who would ‘kill’ for fox fur, nor the number of people who do fox hunting for fun/sport like the UK for example).

Wealthy merchant New Year's in old Japan
The Saitō merchant family of Marumori, Miyagi, built their estate over seven generations from the country's feudal times until the 20th century.
It's now a museum, for all to see how the wealthy lived in old Japan.
Exhibits change seasonally, with New Year's displays out now.

丸森町の蔵の郷土館「齋理屋敷」の紹介作品です。

撮影に当たっては、丸森町観光物産振興公社様から各種ご配慮を頂くとともに、当日は端午の節句として、齋理に残る鎧兜をはじめ、大幟や武者人形が展示されていました。
齋理屋敷は、七代にわたって繁栄した豪商である齋藤家の屋敷を改装した博物館で、齋藤家の歴代当主が齋藤 理助（さいとう りすけ）を名乗ったことから齋理と呼ばれています。
6535平方メートルの敷地内には、往時の居宅1棟と蔵6棟、石造りの浴室1棟に加えて、丸森町が新築した建物2棟の合計10棟が立ち並んでおり、県道45号線に面した店蔵は、1848年（嘉永元年）に建てられた屋敷内で最古の建物です。
Sairi-Yashiki is a museum that has been converted from the house of the Saito family, a thriving Japanese merchant for seven generations since 1848, and is called “Sairi” because the initial presidents of the Saito family had been named Saito Risuke. A total of 10 buildings consisting of 2 buildings built by Marumori town, along with 1 residential home and 6 warehouses and 1 stone bathroom, are lined up in the site of 6535 square meters. Storehouse facing the prefectural road No. 45 is the oldest building in the museum.

Miyagi's Zao Fox Village in Winter Snow & Shiroishi Castle | Japan Cheap Food & Travel
At the Zao Fox Village near Shiroishi City in the Miyagi Prefecture, you can come face to face with more than a hundred foxes, with no fences in between! You can find a variety of foxes here like the red, arctic and grey foxes. Watch them walk past you or play with each other at incredibly close distances inside a large, free-range enclosure. This place is particularly beautiful in winter, and the foxes playing and sleeping against the snowy landscape makes for some incredible photos.
However, do note that at the end of the day this is a tourist attraction and the foxes are here to make money. This means they are raised in captivity and will survive out in the wild, so they cannot be released. Some foxes are kept in smaller cages, particularly those that can be held by tourists (for a fee). This is not their natural habitat, nor do foxes hang out in such large groups in the wild.
Cheapest way to get to get to the Zao Fox Village from Sendai:
1. Catch a train from Sendai Station to Shiroishi Station (48 mins, ¥770, timetable available on Google Maps). Note that Shinkansen trains also go to the nearby Shiroishi-Zao station. It only takes 15mins but costs ¥3,170! So make sure you get on the right train

2. Board the 7:58am bus for Zao Fox Village at the bus stop right outside station, next to the Family Mart. Note that the bus only stops at Zao Fox Village on Tuesdays and Fridays! (45 mins, ¥200)

3. For the return trip, the only bus is at 2:32pm in the afternoon which means staying at the fox village for almost 6 hours. Alternatively, find other tourists and ask the staff to call a cab for you. It’s about ~¥1000 per person if you have a full cab.
