West Virginia is chock-full of beauty and, in my opinion, the best time to explore it all is just around the corner… ???? ???? ????
1️⃣ Blackwater Falls State Park
•A few favorites here: Lindy Point, Pendleton Point Overlook, Elakala Falls, Pace Point and of course its namesake, Blackwater Falls!
2️⃣ Seneca Rocks
•A little less than 4 miles (out & back) and generally considered a ‘moderately challenging route’. (Be careful!) The top is a totally vertical and razorback ridge line with ~900-1,000 drop-offs all around. ⠀
3️⃣ Chimney Top
•Trailhead: North Fork Trail on Smoke Hole Road (about 20 mins from Seneca Rocks and 35 mins from Dolly Sods Wilderness). Distance: 5.3 miles (out & back). Difficulty: Rated hard (according to AllTrails) with ~2,000ft elevation gain (over a short span of 2.65 miles up). It’s an eastern US ‘booty burner’????
4️⃣ Dolly Sods Wilderness
•Some of my favorites here: Red Creek Trail (chase hidden waterfalls), Blackbird Knob Trail, Lion’s Head (most popular outcrop here), Rocky Ridge Trail (sweeping panoramic views) and Rohrbaugh Plains Trail. Plus, be sure to catch sunrise at BEAR ROCKS!
5️⃣ New River Gorge National Park
•Some favorites here include: Endless Wall Trail (a must!), Long Point Trail, Grandview Main Overlook (awesome for sunrise), Beauty Mountain (awesome for sunset), Kaymoor Miner’s Trail, go on an epic adventure via ‘The Bridge Walk’ or whitewater raft with ACE Adventures!

We had the opportunity to spend 5 days trekking across Martinsburg, WV to capture the wonder and beauty of the eastern panhandle of West Virginia. From 4:30AM call times to 10:00PM wrap times, from snow to spring within a day, from mountain tops to underground caves, we really immersed ourselves in everything Berkeley County has to offer.
