Places to see in ( Marlow - UK )

Marlow is a town and civil parish within Wycombe district in south Buckinghamshire, England. Marlow is located on the River Thames, 4 miles south-southwest of High Wycombe, 5 miles west-northwest of Maidenhead and 33 miles west of central London.

From Norman times the manor, parish, and later borough were formally known as Great Marlow, distinguishing them from Little Marlow. The ancient parish was large, including rural areas north and west of the town. In 1896 the civil parish of Great Marlow, created in the 19th century from the ancient parish, was divided into Great Marlow Urban District (the town) and Great Marlow civil parish (the rural areas). In 1897 the urban district was renamed Marlow Urban District, and the town has been known simply as Marlow.

Marlow owed its importance to its location on the River Thames, where the road from Reading to High Wycombe crosses the river. It had its own market by 1227 (hence the name Chipping Marlow), although the market lapsed before 1600. From 1301 to 1307 the town had its own Member of Parliament, and it returned two members from 1624 to 1867.

Marlow is adjoined by Marlow Bottom, a mile to the north. Little Marlow is nearby to the east along the A4155 Little Marlow Road and Bourne End is further along the same road. To the south across the Thames are Bisham (home of Bisham Abbey) and Cookham Dean, both in Berkshire.

There has been a bridge over the Thames at Marlow since the reign of King Edward III The current bridge is a suspension bridge, designed by William Tierney Clark in 1832, and was a prototype for the much larger Széchenyi Chain Bridge across the River Danube in Budapest. The Hand & Flowers, the first gastropub to hold two Michelin stars, is located on West Street. Marlow is the location of Marlow Lock, originating from the 14th century.

The A4155 road runs through Marlow town centre, with the A404 lying one mile to the east, the M40 motorway further to the north, and the M4 motorway to the south. Marlow is served by a railway station which is the terminus of a single-track branch line from Maidenhead. The train service is known as the Marlow Donkey, which was the nickname given to the steam locomotives that once operated on the line. There is also a pub with the same name, located close to the railway station.

We're about to enter the beautiful beautiful town of Marlow and right now we're going through a village that's called Bisham it's a, It's one of these really really picturesque Villages which has got a lot of cottages And we are in Marlow now We've parked behind Sainsbury's which is a really nice car park right there and because it's Sunday now it's only a pound to pay However, obviously if you are taking public transport, it's entirely different matter This old courtyard used to be brewery Marlow.
Now it's not a brewery anymore, but it looks absolutely stunning. Not many people are wondering here. Follow me; I can't help but notice how wide and thick this tree is. There are quite a few stories about this bridge. First of all, this is not the original. The original one has been built here in 13 something or rather. So there's been a sequence of wooden bridges That were this place and then this bridge has been built Couple of words about swans as you can see these ones with feathers plumed out are quite aggressive and then these The grey ones are the cygnets the young swans. They're really well fed over here. They're quite relaxed. Well, thank you for joining me on this wonderful walk in Marlow and until next time bye bye.

10 Best Towns to Live in England - My Subcriber's List

What are the best towns in England? Thank you, so much, dear subscribers, for bearing your minds on my video regarding the 10 best towns to live in England. I have analyzed your opinions about the towns you consider 10 best when living in England is on the balance. Indeed, England is an interesting and diverse country. Offering a variety of living experiences, I understand that different groups of people and individuals will love different features of towns. That necessarily creates different rankings of the towns in England among my subscribers. From the towns you listed as the best towns to live in England, I have compiled this as the 10 best towns to live in England, but in my order since my subscribers have varying orders.
10. Alnwick
Thanks for calling my attention to the market town of Alnwick in Northumberland, of which it’s the traditional county town. This coastal town on the River Aln's southern bank is 55 kilometers north of Newcastle upon Tyne. It's 51 kilometers south of Berwick-upon-Tweed and 8 kilometers inland from the North Sea at Alnmouth.
A lot of things contributed to making Alnwick one of the best towns to live in England. Some of the things that my subscribers saw about this town are its cheap homes, good characters, good transport links, fascinating history, and of course, low crime rates. I have no other choice than to agree with you that this town whose residents believe that living there affords them a fantastic quality of life is one of the best towns in England.
9. Weston-Super-Mare
I love the inclusion of Weston-super-Mare on my subscribers’ list. I found the communities in Weston-Super-Mare so small but the people are quite pleasant. I wholeheartedly join in ranking it among the best places in England. It’s a town with a warm and temperate climate with plenty of rainfall all year round.
For those planning for their retirement, Weston-Super-Mare is a great place due to its relaxing atmosphere and variety of interesting activities at all times of the year. The town has a lot to offer, including its beautiful beach, dozens of entertainment venues where your soul will be treated to good music, comedy, and many more. Home prices are cheap in Weston-Super-Mare also. Therefore, as a family-friendly commuter town with good links to many cities and plenty of shopping opportunities, this is a very good town to live in in England.
8. Frome
I’m happy that you all agree with all I said about the market town of Frome and you added it to your list. In addition to all that I have told you about this town sitting on the eastern flanks of the Mendip Hills which is some 20 kilometers south of the ancient town of Bath and some 172 kilometers west of London, I want to show you some of the things that make Frome one of the loveliest little towns, not only in England but also in the UK as a whole.
It has a vibrant nightlife that gives a justification for its being the fourth largest Somerset town. Also, its education, transportation, and good links will always combine to make it one of the 10 best towns to live in England.

A Visit to Marlow

Marlow, Buckinghamshire UK
Town in England
Marlow is a town and civil parish within Wycombe district in south Buckinghamshire, England. It is located on the River Thames, 4 miles south-southwest of High Wycombe, 5 miles west-northwest of Maidenhead and 33 miles west of central London.

Malow is twinned with Marly-le-roi, near Paris. It also has a special relationship with Budapest due to the Tierney Clarke bridge across the river which is a miniature version of the famous Chain Bridge there. He built four such bridges but only these two survive. The Marlow Bridge is also the only suspension bridge across the River Thames. The town is home to British Olympian Sir Steve Redgrave and holds an annual regatta on the River. It is a very upmarket area, with house prices being extremely expensive, often upward of £750,000 (~$1.4m) for those close to the river. The nearest villages along the River of suitable walking distance are Bourne End towards Maidenhead, and Hurley towards Oxford. Those looking for a more adventurous walk can walk to Cookham (2miles) and Maidenhead(4miles). Henley-on-Thames is a more challenging walk of about 8.5 miles(11km).

There has been a bridge over the Thames at Marlow since the reign of King Edward III[citation needed] The current bridge is a suspension bridge, designed by William Tierney Clark in 1832, and was a prototype for the much larger Széchenyi Chain Bridge across the River Danube in Budapest.[6]

MARLOW ENGLAND

From WHEELCHAIR NOMAD DIARY...2003 EE england Richard and Jonathon took turns pushing the wheelchair to a bridge over the locks and I took photographs of the canal boats and the million dollar flats overlooking the locks. We then walked along the Thames River to Marlow Parish Church overlooking the River. Jonathon and I walked along the river, admiring the private house boats. Perhaps youll rent one and spend a few months exploring English rivers and canals, I suggested. Id love too once I retire, but it would take years to explore the complex canal systems. They go everywhere, Jon replied. We rejoined Andrea and her mum and entered the Hogs Head, a large Marlow Pub, where Richard drank a pint of Speckled Hen while I drank a warm pint of Hook Norton. Andreas mum drank a large glass of white wine. She normally enjoys sherry with her friends at lunch, Andrea commented. My pub meal was amazingly good, a spicy hot chilli with rice and large sized chips to moderate the heat. We dropped down the street window shopping, to the Coffee Republic for a coffee. The coffee shop was full. Marlow is an upper-class town, Andrea told us. The cars are expensive, recent models, such as that Boxler over there, the women all expensively dressed and groomed, and they look as if their only occupation is shopping. The stores are up-market, and expensive here.«

10 Of The Best British Farm Attractions
Stockley Farm Park, Cheshire.
This organic dairy and arable farm prides itself on a “hands-on” approach: visitors are encouraged to feed and groom the animals and watch planting and milking parlour demonstrations.

Odds Farm Park, Buckinghamshire.
Odds Farm Park was named attraction of the year at the 2017 National Farm Attractions Network awards.

Good Day Out, Powys.
Sheep-trekking, sheepdog herding and “pig-nics” are just a few of the unusual and educational experiences offered by Good Day Out, which raises money for local causes by offering interactive farm visits in the Brecon Beacons.

Hall Hill Farm, County Durham.
Spring is one of the busiest times of year on sheep farms. On 7 April, Hall Hill Farm will be hosting a Lambing Live Open Day, with extended opening hours (10.30am-9pm) so that visitors can see births as they happen and visit new-born lambs in the maternity barn.

Mudchute Farm, London.
Set in 32 acres on the Isle of Dogs, this inner-city farm brings a little slice of rural life to the East End. As well as the working farm, there’s a petting zoo, duck pond and equestrian centre, with an all-weather floodlit riding arena and show jumps.

Blackstone Clydesdales, Ayrshire.
This family farm offers the opportunity to get up close to working Clydesdale horses and other farm animals on specially tailored “experiences”.

Bocketts Farm Park, Surrey.
Unlike some “farm attractions” which are really just theme parks with animals, Bocketts is still very much a working sheep farm. Around 500 lambs are expected to arrive over the next month or two and lucky visitors might even get to watch one being born.

The Big Sheep, Devon.
No list of farm attractions is complete without the Big Sheep, which has transformed itself from humble livestock farm to one of Devon’s top family attractions.

Baylham House, Suffolk.
This small livestock farm specialises in breeds once common on British farms, but now under threat. Children can get really close to the animals, with opportunities to groom goats and pigs, stroke rabbits, feed chickens and hunt for new-laid eggs.

Acton Scott, Shropshire.
If Acton Scott looks familiar, it’s because it was the setting of the BBC2 show Victorian Farm.
