West Lomond via The Bunnet Stane | Lomond Hills, Fife, Maiden's Bower | Tallest Peak in Fife

Heading to the Kingdom of Fife Alistair and Douglas visited the Bunnet Stane, a rock formation at the foot of the Lomond Hills, and the Maiden's Bower, a small man-made cave, before climbing to the highest point in Fife, West Lomond. Legend tells that a young maiden fell in love with the son of a rival family and met him at the rock formation. One night she saw her Father's men ambush and kill the young man, and from that day forth she vowed never to return to the family home and lived the remainder of her life in the cave.

Carnsew Hillfort - Ancient Penwith

Carnsew Hillfort stands above the B3301 in the West Cornwall town of Hayle. The hillfort is very little known by many who pass it, even though it is one of the oldest places in the area. Carnsew Hillfort dates from the Iron Age, making it around 2,500 years old. From the hillfort, the Hayle Estuary, and the site of another hillfort, which Lelant Church and golf course are now built on top of, can be seen well from here. Even though, unlike Lelant Hillfort, remains of Carnsew Hillfort are still in existence, many traces have been destroyed over the years. This happened mainly in 1845, when the hillfort was shaped and altered to become a park. The building of the railway and the forming of agricultural land didn't help the site either. Located beside the upper path is a slab, inscribed with the inscription of an early Medieval inscribed stone found here, dated as from the 5th-6th century. The inscribed stone not only shows that Hayle was active during the Early Christian period, but also shows that Carnsew Hillfort wasn't just active during the Iron Age. This is also shown by a burial site, also dating from the Early Christian period, near to the inscribed stone. It's not just people who were alive during the early Medieval period who were buried in here, in the 1840's, another burial chamber, this time dating from the Iron Age, was found here. It's believed that Carnsew Hillfort may have been built for use as a trading post. It would've most likely been used for trade between Ireland and Mount's Bay.

Return To Lomond Hills

The Lomond Hills have a rich and varied history. From the Iron Age are the remains of several hill forts, which can be found around the summits of both East and West Lomond as well as at Maiden Castle, a grassy knoll that lies between the two.
In more recent history, the Lomond Hills were mined for limestone, ore and lead, although there are no longer any working quarries there today. On the southwest slopes of East Lomond are the well preserved remains of a limekiln and quarry (in which the fossilised remains of prehistoric sea creatures can be found).
Both East and West Lomond can easily be climbed from Craigmead Car Park, which lies between the two at a height of around 300m. Alternative routes exist from the Bunnet Stane, the village of Falkland and the car park at the masts, high on East Lomond. The views from both summits, due to their prominence, are magnificent, stretching from the Highlands to the Borders, with the sea in the east.
Beneath the northern slopes of the escarpment lies Falkland Estate, an area of forest (now commercial plantation), where the kings of Scotland would have hunted whilst staying at nearby Falkland Palace. The present custodian of the palace is Ninian Crichton-Stuart, brother of the Marquess of Bute

Farewell Metrobus 6556 | Crawley 70th tribute | 2005 - 2023

Another N94UB Omnicity has gone. Here is a tribute for Metrobus 6556 (YN55 PWU), the Crawley 70th bus; using what footage I have, since I am fairly new to the bus community.

This bus was introduced with a batch of seven (552-558) for town route 1 in November 2005. They were refurbished in 2015, and transitioned between routes 1&3 following the 2021 service change.

This bus last ran on route 3, on the 26th of October 2022, although it remained on the fleet list for quite a while. Finally, in March, it was removed, calling me to make a tribute.

Locations in this video:
Clips 1&2: Crawley Bus Station, 01/06/2022, on route 3
Clips 3&4: Redhill Bus Station/Park 25, 14/09/2022, on route 100
Photo: Gatwick South Terminal, 03/09/2022, on route 3

Two route 100 buses in Redhill 28/07/2022

Here are two route 100 buses at Redhill Bus Station, the first being 6628 (YN08 DFP) branded for route 100, and the other being 6559 (YN07 LKF). I have posted another video of 6559 on my channel explaining this occurrence in the description.

A Metrobus tribute to 6289 and 6320 (2003 - 2022/23)

I'm a little late, aren't I? Here is a tribute to just two Dennis Darts, 6289 and 6320, since I am fairly new to the bus community. 6289 last ran in August, and 6320 in April. This brought an end to all of Metrobus' Dennis Darts, which have been running on both the Crawley and London networks since 1999. The major decline happened when Metrobus lost the Croydon and Orpington garages in 2015, and they were deemed too old for London work. And then, the StreetLites arrived at Crawley, and... well, the rest is self-explanatory.

For a few years, five Darts stayed at Crawley, being 6287, 6288, 6289, 6320 & 6321. These all lasted until 2022 when the enviro 200 midibuses and MMCs arrived. 6320 was retained to cover for 6559s accident in August.

This video is part of a new series I hope to make progress with. This series will show unseen bus footage from 2022, before I became a bus channel. Just like this video, a new episode should be uploaded every week at approximately 9PM British time. This video was just a bit different since I had to get this tribute done!
