My Trip to Timisoara, Romania | Timișoara, România
A video of my trip to Timisoara, Romania.
Located in the far Western part of Romania, Timisoara is the 3rd biggest city in the country and an easy drive from Brasov. I went to Timisoara to explore the city and check out what it had to offer. I only was able to spend one night, which definitely wasn't enough time, so I plan to head back in the future.
Unfortunately, as you'll probably notice in the video, many of the monuments and areas in the Old Town were under construction. This is because Timisoara is one of the many cities in Romania that's a candidate to become the European Capital of Culture in 2021.
Many tourists to Romania tend to stick to the more popular cities like Brasov or Bucharest but I think that TImisoara deserves a spot on the best places to see in the country. It was full of grand, impressive and lovely architecture and it has quite an interesting and culturally rich history.
First mentioned in the 13th century, Timisoara was, and still is, the capital of the historic Banat region. This is a historical region covering large parts of Romania, Serbia and Hungary and you'll notice a lot of visitors from these countries when you're in Timisoara. Many of the signs have both the Hungarian and Romanian spelling of destinations and there are countless Serbian license plates around.
The things I loved most about Timisoara were the Old Town pedestrian walking area, all of the squares and the impressive Orthodox Cathedral. It was great to be able to walk around and take everything in without having to worry about cars and busses. The city center was quiet and, outside of the main square, void of any tourists.

If you're visiting Romania for more than a few days I highly recommend you check out Timisoara. It's an easy drive from Brasov and there are trains and buses available from both Brasov and Bucharest for a fair price.

Fun has ended, it was time to leave Resita and come home.
What can I say, the road trip was fantastic and I'm planning on visiting Lugoj too since it seems to be a very nice place.
There is a part between Lugoj and Deva where the highway is missing, but, to be honest, I didn't mind because the pass is stunning.
