Palace of Westminster ???????? London Video Guide - Travel & Discover

The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Commonly known as the Houses of Parliament after its occupants, the Palace lies on the north bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in central London, England.

Its name, which is derived from the neighbouring Westminster Abbey, may refer to either of two structures: the Old Palace, a medieval building complex destroyed by fire in 1834, or its replacement, the New Palace that stands today. The palace is owned by the monarch in right of the Crown and for ceremonial purposes, retains its original status as a royal residence. The building is managed by committees appointed by both houses, which report to the Speaker of the House of Commons and the Lord Speaker.

A Visitor's Guide to Wharfedale, Yorkshire

The film follows the infant Wharfe from its head on Langstrothdale. Further along it then turns to enter the dale (valley) properly near Hubberholme / Buckden. The full commentary shows what you are looking at, as well as the history and things to see. It follows the dale down to Kettlewell, Grassington and ends at Bolton Abbey - and looks at everything inbetween! Filmed over many years and involving numerous organisations, it gives a full insight into what many consider their favourite dale in the National Park.

Fantastic Tales of Bloomsbury (4K)

This London walking tour takes us around the fabulous squares of Bloomsbury with its fantastic tales. Thanks to my supporters on Patreon
Please subscribe for regular videos:

Our walk starts with the incredible story of Oliver Cromwell's body being kept in the cellar of The Red Lion pub in Holborn in 1661 and its possible secret burial. Then in Red Lion Square, we investigate the story that the square is haunted by three ghostly cloaked figures. There's also Conway Hall and the house inhabited by members of the pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood.
We move on to Queen Square with the Italian Hospital, Mary Ward Centre, Queen Charlotte, The Queen's Larder and the Devil's Dyke. Our Bloomsbury walk passes the Horse Hospital into Russell Square, once the site of a Parliamentarian fortification during the English Civil War. Next we walk along Bedford Way to Gordon Square which is heavily associated with the Bloomsbury Set (Virginia Woolf etc.). The walk ends with a spooky story in Woburn Square.

Worst RV Campground Ever // (And How we Saved our Weekend!)

***SHADY GROVE CAMPGROUND, DENVER PA***

One of our biggest camping fears came to life this past weekend as we pulled into possibly the worlds worst RV campground. While the spots were tight, the sewer connections were not and we found ourselves in a bad camping situation pretty quickly.

After a confusing run in with some of the seasonal campers, we decided it wasn't worth the stress we had to save our weekend - and in this case we only had one option. To hook our Shadow Cruiser Travel Trailer back up and head home.

Currently holding the record for our shortest camping trip (19 hours between check in and check out) it taught us a lot about vetting campgrounds, when to call it quits, and what red flags to look out for when looking for a place to camp with our travel trailer.

ALNWICK | Walk through Alnwick Town Centre to Alnwick Castle

ALNWICK | Walk through Alnwick Town Centre to Alnwick Castle
We explore Alnwick in Northumberland and walk through the town centre to Alnwick Castle, famous as the filming location for Harry Potter Quidditch scenes as well as Downton Abbey and other big TV and film productions!

Alnwick is a market town in Northumberland, England, of which it is the traditional county town. Alnwick, in Northumberland, is a coastal town located 30 miles North of Newcastle and enjoys an exceptional setting near spectacular countryside. This beautiful town was voted 2016's Best Place to Live in Britain, as judged by Country Life

Visiting Alnwick, pronounced to sound like ‘panic’, is like stepping into a fairytale, where you can dine in the twinkling treetops of one of the world’s largest treehouses, fly a broomstick at Alnwick Castle, and visit a sleeping Giant at The Alnwick Garden

From broomsticks to bookshops, tree houses to cherry blossoms, and jousts to dragons, you can't miss the magic of the cobbled market town of Alnwick when you visit Northumberland.

Alnwick Castle is (quite literally) spellbinding, as its starring role as Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry casts a hint of magic over the grounds. Spot Harry Potter wand-ering the corridors, have a guided tour led by Ron Weasley, and take a broomstick lesson on the very spot where Harry, Ron and Hermione learned to fly. Harry Potter aside, get lost in the history of the medieval architecture and opulent Italianate State Rooms of the Duchess of Northumberland’s family home.

Combine your visit with a trip to The Alnwick Garden, the enchanting site that holds 4000 different plants, a Grand Cascade, a mysterious Poison Garden and a seasonal cherry orchard. From the end of April - early May, the largest collection of Japanese Taihaku cherry blossoms in the world blooms here, so perch on one of the swinging benches and watch the delicate petals flutter in the breeze. Explore The Alnwick Treehouse, where indoor branches are intertwined with sparkling fairy lights and a flickering open fire takes centre stage. Those who are a little more adventurous can reach the restaurant via a wobbly bridge that becomes even more spectacular at night as fairy lights line the outdoor area.

Don't miss Bailiffgate Museum & Gallery, which holds over 10,000 years of history in its charming stone walls. Based in Alnwick's Castle Quarter, it was previously a church, meaning you can admire its beautiful architecture while you discover artefacts, photographs and audio visual displays that showcase fascinating stories through time.

Just a short walk through Alnwick’s winding streets and past the archway of Bondgate Tower, the only remaining chunk of the town walls, will take you to Barter Books. Undoubtedly one of the cosiest cafes in the county, this once Victorian railway station is now one of the biggest antiquarian bookshops in the UK. Settle into an armchair by the open fire and grab yourself a coffee as you immerse yourself in the literary world while toy trains chug above you.

Alnwick Castle was built in the 11th Century to control and protect the border, symbolising status and power for the new Norman barons across the country. The Percy Family still live in the castle today. Alnwick Castle is the second largest inhabited castle in England, second only to Windsor Castle.

Alnwick Castle was used as a filming location of both the Philosopher's Stone and the Chamber of Secrets. Harry and his classmates learned to fly broomsticks on the Outer Bailey, which is also where Harry learned to play the wizarding sport Quidditch.

Menstrie Castle On Visit To Clackmannanshire Scotland

Tour Scotland 4K travel video of Menstrie Castle on history visit to Clackmannanshire. Menstrie Castle is a three storey manor house in the town of Menstrie, near Stirling. From the early 17th century, it was home to Sir William Alexander, 1st Earl of Stirling, who was instrumental in founding the colony of Nova Scotia in Canada. It was later owned by the Holburn or Holborne family, who were created Baronets of Menstrie in 1706. The castle was built around 1560 by the Alexander family, a branch of the Clan MacAlister, who had anglicised their surname. Sir William Alexander was born here around 1577, and later became known as a poet. He gained a place in the Royal Household of King James VI, eventually becoming a member of the Privy Council of Scotland in 1615, Principal Secretary of State in 1626, and Earl of Stirling in 1633. In 1621, he was appointed governor of Nova Scotia, an area of North America including the modern Canadian provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, and the Gaspé Peninsula. In order to populate his territory, the Baronetage of Nova Scotia was devised in 1624, whereby Baronetcies were sold to support colonists. The scheme was a financial failure, and in 1632 Nova Scotia was returned to the French, who had claimed the area originally. Alexander died bankrupt in London in 1644. Menstrie Castle was burned by the Royalist James Graham, 1st Marquess of Montrose in 1645, during the English Civil War. It was sold to James Holborne of Menstrie in 1648. A major general in the Scottish army, Holborne had a chequered career during the Wars of the Three Kingdoms. The castle was purchased by George Abercromby of Tullibody in 1719, and his family held the estate until 1924, although the buildings had begun to deteriorate from around 1750. George's son, Ralph Abercromby, who became a major British military hero, was born here in 1734. The family moved from the castle around 1740 to Tullibody House, and the castle was left empty.

Grassington: Conistone to Grassington

We cross the bridge from Kilnsey to Conistone and then take a view over the Dib - a ravine, now dry, that was created by glacial meltwater. At the top it joins the Dales Way footpath between Grassington and Kettlewell.

Grassington is three miles away and the road skirts the bottom of Grass Wood. It has well laid out paths that reach up to Fort Gregory - a Roman Signal Station. Behind are Iron Age field systems (best seen in low light).

You can understand why people make a bee-line to Grassington. The streets of quaint limestone cottages would have been very basic (check out the Museum on the Square) as they were built for lead miners who toiled away on the moor above the village. They were generally built 1800-1840.

We take a tour around the village before heading up on to the moor to see the lead mines. They closed in 1882, although reopened 1918-1927 and again the huge heaps of discarded material was worked over for fluorspar and other minerals in the 1950s. A four mile path takes you past information boards.
