Bamburgh and Alnwick are MUST VISIT places in Northumberland

You can't miss Bamburgh and Alnwick if you are visiting Northumberland.

Join us on our trip to Bamburgh and Alnwick in Northumberland, United Kingdom as part of our United Kingdom Travel Guide. Bamburgh is famous for its amazing castle and stunning beach and Alnwick for its bustling shops and markets.

We start our journey on the beautiful Northumberland coast at Bamburgh including a walk along the beautiful Bamburgh Beach. One of the best places to see Bamburgh castle is from the beach and in our opinion Bamburgh beach is one of the most beautiful beaches in the UK.

We'll then take you to Alnwick, famous for Alnwick Castle which was used during the filming of Harry Potter. If you are looking for Harry Potter filming locations, this is one of the best places to see.

Alnwick is also home to the famous Barter Books which is located in the old Alnwick Train Station. In this book shop you'll find an incredible selection of vintage books plus a fantastic dog friendly cafe.

While visiting England you should definitely add Bamburgh and Alnwick to your list. We love visiting Northumberland and try to visit at least once a year. Northumberland has some fantastic places to visit so check our our other Towels Travels videos as part of our Northumberland Travel Guide.

Studley Royal Park & Fountains Abbey - UNESCO World Heritage Site

A tour of Studley Royal Park and the ruins of Fountains Abbey, a combined UNESCO World Heritage site in northern England. The abbey was once among the richest in England, and the water gardens of Studley Park were built entirely to give pleasing vistas across to the ruined abbey. A lovely spot!

Lundy Island, UK | Guide & Full Island Tour

In this video I make a rain and wind-swept visit to the costal Island of Lundy, United Kingdom. One of the UK's declared greatest natural wonders. Travelling on the Island's supply ship: the 1950s era MS Oldenburg.

Lundy is the largest island in the England's Bristol Channel. It lies 10 nautical miles (19 km) off the coast of the county of Devon. Lundy gives its name to a British sea area and is one of the islands of England. Taking its name from the Puffin, a rare seabird that is found on the islands cliffs.

Lundy is included in the district of Torridge with a resident population of about 28 people. These include a warden, a ranger, an island manager, a farmer, bar and house-keeping staff, and volunteers. Most live in and around the village at the south of the island. Most visitors are day-trippers, although there are 23 holiday properties and a camp site for over-night visitors, most at the south of the island.
In a 2005 opinion poll of Radio Times readers, Lundy was named as Britain's tenth greatest natural wonder.

The island has been designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest and it was England's first statutory Marine Nature reserve, and the first Marine Conservation Zone. because of its unique flora and fauna. It is managed by the Landmark Trust on behalf of the National Trust.

The island has a long and turbulent history and has changed hands many times, owned in 1100s by the Knights Templar, and usurped by the brigand Marisco Family in the 1200s. In modern times the site of the wrecking of the Battleship HMS Montagu in 1906. And the site of two Crashed German Heinkel HE111 Bombers in World War 2.

Today the Island is a semi wold sheep farm, and a popular, if challenging to visit, tourist destination.

FIVE amazing things about the market town of Darlington, England.

After backpacking through Central America for 8 months, I'm back home in England, working and saving for my next adventure abroad. Inspired by the rich history and diverse cultures I experienced in Central America, I felt compelled to explore the historical treasures of my own market town, Darlington. Unbeknownst to me, Darlington is brimming with fascinating history and captivating stories. Join me as I uncover the hidden gems of this charming English town, from Arthur Wharton, the pioneering black football player, to the incredible journey of a Crimean War cannon that narrowly made its way to Darlington. Embark on this captivating journey and discover the untold tales of Darlington's past, where history comes alive at every turn. Holy Island || Lindisfarne Castle | (A Beautiful Beach) | Americans in the UK | Family Vlog

While on Holiday we visited Holy Island, a coastal tidal island in Northeast England, to see Lindisfarne Castle. On the island we discovered a large, expansive, and beautiful beach. The beach was truly beautiful.... and empty! I was shocked that such a lovely beach could be deserted. But it was perfect for exploring, running, and enjoying the vast space.

The hike to the beach was also enjoyable as it was much further to the water than expected. Also, we had no idea that a beautiful beach was waiting at the end of the hike... that made it all worth while.

If you get a chance I highly recommend Holy Island, the village on the island, the beach, and Lindisfarne Castle as excellent day trip locations.

***Please be mindful of the tide schedule and never try to drive through high or rising tidal waters. For your safety, Beware. ????????

Britain has so many beautiful and hidden gems like Holy Island.

Holy Island of Lindisfarne - Lindisfarne Castle & Holy Island Causeway | Northumberland, England

Explore the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, including driving across Holy Island causeway and visiting Lindisfarne Castle, with my mother and me.

As part of our North of England road trip, my mother and I visit the Holy Island of Lindisfarne in Northumberland. To reach Holy Island, we drive across the causeway to the island. After a look around Lindisfarne village, including a stop at the famous Lindisfarne Mead, we visit National Trust property Lindisfarne Castle. Lindisfarne Castle is a picturesque English castle with an interesting and varied history.
After our visit to Lindisfarne Castle, we look around the rest of Holy Island, including the lime kilns, Caste Point, the walled garden and views over Lindisfarne Priory.
Then we have to drive back along the causeway before the tide comes in!
Thank you for watching our visit to the Holy Island of Lindisfarne and Lindisfarne Castle.

Bamburgh Castle - The Last Kingdom Standing Strong

Bamburgh Castle is located on the Northeast coast of England near the village of Bamburgh in Northumberland. It is a Grade 1 listed building which means is has been placed on a statutory list maintained by Historic England.

It was most recently featured on the Netflix Movie, The Last Kingdom: Seven Kings Must Die. It will also be featured in the upcoming Indiana Jones film. It was also a featured location in the Starz and Netflix TV series Outlander.

Prior to Bamburgh Castle being built, the site was the location of a Celtic Brittonic fort called Din Guarie. The fort was founded sometime between 420 to 547. The fort passed from control of the Britons and the Anglo-Saxons several times and finally rested in control of the Anglo-Saxons in 590. It was destroyed by the Vikings in 993. Eventually the Normans built a castle on this site which became the core of Bamburgh Castle. It became property of the English monarch after a revolt in 1095.

It deteriorated during the 17th century and was restored by several owners during the 18th and 19th centuries. Victorian era industrialist William Armstrong bought the castle in 1894 and completed restoration.

It continues to be owned by the Armstrong family to this day. Francis Watson-Armstrong is the current owner or preservationist of this castle. It first opened to the public in the 1900's.

If you would like to visit the castle, ticketing information can be found on their official website:
