Wangzhing Rabney: A Local Festival in Remote Bhutan

#Wangzhing_Rabney-A Local Festival in Remote Bhutan.

It is believed that Lam Gyalwa Lhanangpa, who came from Sombrang Gonpa in Bumthang, subdued the demon at Dragong in Minjey, Lhuentse. The Lam, after subduing the demon, blessed the people. In return, the people offered land to the Lam and the place was named as Wangzhing meaning, blessing land. Later, Terton Pema Lingpa built the Lhakhang and for the consecration ceremony of newly constructed Lhakhang, Terton initiated diverse Ter Chams (treasure mask Dances), which can be witnessed even today during the festival.

Thereafter, the festival came to be known as Wangzhing Rabney, where Wang means blessing, Zhing means land and Rabney means consecration ceremony of newly constructed Lhakhang. The first day is celebrated with Nubcham by the local community.

The Nubcham is held towards the evening of the 24th day of the 7th Month of the Bhutanese calendar. Gonpo and Gonmo are major dances performed on Nubcham day. On the second day, the dance of pig followed by the treasurer dances of Zhana Chams, 12 animals' birth signs dance, and other secret dances are performed.

The festival concludes with the dance of three male relatives. As per the local community, these three relatives' dance concludes the festival, because, during the consecration ceremony of the Temple, three people from other hamlets came to witness the ceremony, but they arrived towards nightfall when the ceremony was about to close.

The three relatives went to visit Terton Pema Lingpa. Terton informed them that the consecration ceremony had already ended, but still, he made these three male relatives conclude the sanctification ceremony, and even today whoever attains the festival gets an opportunity to witness the dance of the three relatives.

Hidden Hotspring: Duenmang Tshachu, Zhemgang
I had heard of a hidden hotspring in Zhemgang.

It's on a cliff

????You have to walk for hours

????The path is steep and dangerous .

So off we went to this mysterious hotspring named Duenmang back in 2019. I had kept this video shelved so that it could be put together with an overall tourism video for Zhemgang district but then covid happened. So here it is finally, a sneak peek into a hidden destination that I still cant believe I had the good fortune of visiting????????

Tigers nest hike| Taktsang monastery in paro| Bhutanese vlog| Best place in Bhutan. ????????

Welcome to Taktsang, also known as the Tiger's Nest, one of the most iconic landmarks in Bhutan. This sacred site is located in the Paro Valley, nestled in the heart of the Himalayas. Taktsang is a Buddhist monastery that clings to a cliff, 3,120 meters above sea level. The hike up to Taktsang is challenging, but the reward is well worth the effort. As you climb higher, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the valley below and the surrounding mountain peaks.

The monastery itself is a masterpiece of Bhutanese architecture, with colorful prayer flags fluttering in the breeze. It's said that Guru Rinpoche, the founder of Tibetan Buddhism, flew to this spot on the back of a tiger and meditated here for several months. Whether you're a spiritual seeker or simply an admirer of natural beauty, Taktsang is a must-visit destination that will leave you in awe. So join us on a journey to Taktsang, and experience the magic of Bhutan for yourself!

Buddha Dordenma Statue | Thimphu Bhutan | Top places to visit in Bhutan

Great Buddha Dordenma is a gigantic Shakyamuni Buddha statue in the mountains of Bhutan celebrating the 60th anniversary of fourth king Jigme Singye Wangchuck. The statue houses over one hundred thousand smaller Buddha statues, each of which, like the Great Buddha Dordenma itself, are made of bronze and gilded in gold. The Great Buddha Dordenma is sited amidst the ruins of Kuensel Phodrang, the palace of Sherab Wangchuck, the thirteenth Desi Druk, overlooking the southern approach to Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Construction began in 2006 and was planned to finish in October 2010, however construction did not conclude until 25 September 2015. The completed work is one of the largest Buddha rupas in the world, at 169 feet (52 m) and contains 100,000 8-inch-tall and 25,000 12-inch-tall gilded bronze Buddhas.
