Letchworth, officially Letchworth Garden City, is a town in Hertfordshire, England, It is a former civil parish. The town's name is taken from one of the three villages it surrounded (the other two being Willian and Norton) – all of which featured in the Domesday Book. The land used was purchased by Quakers who had intended to farm the area and build a Quaker community. The town of Letchworth was laid out by Raymond Unwin as a demonstration of the principles established by Ebenezer Howard who sought to create an alternative to the industrial city by combining the best of town and country living. It is also home to the United Kingdom's first roundabout, which was built in 1909.
As one of the world's first new towns and the first garden city it had great influence on future town planning and the New towns movement; it influenced Welwyn Garden City, which used a similar approach and inspired other projects around the world including the Australian capital Canberra, Hellerau, Germany, Tapanila, Finland, and Mežaparks in Latvia.) There is a link to town planning in Stalingrad through the architect V. N. Semionov and an account of Lenin visiting the town when he visited England for a congress of the Russian Bolshevik party, then banned in Russia.
Letchworth was one of the ancient parishes of Hertfordshire. The parish church of St Mary the Virgin was built in the 12th or 13th Century. The village was located along the road now called Letchworth Lane, stretching from St Mary's and the adjoining medieval manor house (now Letchworth Hall Hotel) up to the crossroads of Letchworth Lane, Hitchin Road, Baldock Road and Spring Road, where there was a post office. Letchworth was a relatively small parish, having a population in 1801 of 67, rising to 96 by 1901.
Several housing estates have been added to Letchworth since its inception. To the north of the town The Grange began construction in 1947 and to the south east Jackmans was built from 1961. These were council / municipal housing estates with many residents originally coming from the London overspill. Two more prosperous (and private) estates – Lordship and Manor Park – were built from in 1971 to the south west.
Letchworth experiences an oceanic climate (Köppen climate classification Cfb) similar to almost all of the United Kingdom. One sport that has had a remarkably difficult history (considering its national popularity) is association football. Letchworth's main semi-professional club – Letchworth F.C. (the Bluebirds) – went out of business in 2002, only a few years after reforming following Letchworth Garden City FC's financial problems, but nearly a century of struggle and repeated name changes.

What are the most hated towns in England? No matter how good a country is, every part of it can’t be loved equally. In fact, some parts of it are bound to be hated. Even the most fanatic lover of a country will love some parts of it less than others. I have heard some people complaining about some towns in England, the home of the Queen that some people are dying to live and work in. That prompts research into the 10 most hated towns in England.
This ranking is based mainly on the comments and complaints of residents of England and visitors to those towns. But it’s not limited to that since some complaints can be completely baseless. We dig deeper in researching these 10 most hated towns in England.
10. Slough
Let’s begin with Slough, a town in Berkshire, within the historic county of Buckinghamshire. This town is 20 miles west of central London and 19 miles northeast of Reading. You will find the town in the Thames Valley and within the London metropolis around the area at the intersection of the M4.
In spite of its location, Slough according to those visitors, is a town whose streets are littered with empty takeaway and full of packets or empty beer cans. This assertion hasn’t been contradicted by even just one resident. The quality of food in the town’s restaurants appears, kind of, made for losers who’re just out to eat as much unhealthy food as they can get away with.
9. Scunthorpe
It’s not desirable to find Scunthorpe among the most hated towns in England. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to take it out of our list because the facts obviously place it there. This industrial town in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire should normally be the pride of Lincolnshire as its main administrative center. But the town with an estimated population of 82,334 in 2016 had many things going against it.
Residents of the UK’s largest steel processing center, also known as the Industrial Garden Town, are frustrated by a lack of the liveliness and diversity in the town only known for work. However, the loudest grouse that lists Scunthorpe alongside the most hated towns in England is the indiscriminate censorship and blocking of websites for spurious reasons.

5 Most Dangerous Cities in the UK
What are the most dangerous cities to live in the United Kingdom? Ranking the United Kingdom as the 116th most dangerous country is not bad at all. That means the country is safer than, at least, 115 others in the world. Between 2020 and 2021 alone, it experienced 600 homicides as just one of the crimes reported that year. A total of 6.1 crimes were reported during that year. Out of these, 2 million were crimes against another person. If there were 67 million people in the UK during that year, the crime rate would be a whole 2,985 crimes per 100,000 people. However, it’s not everywhere in the UK that is dangerous. In this video, we will discuss those currently rated as the 5 most dangerous cities in the United Kingdom.
5. Nottingham
This city with links to the Robin Hood legend and which is famous for lacemaking and the tobacco industry is incidentally here. If we go by its population of 337,100, Nottingham that’s playing host to the headquarters of a number of major international businesses including Boots, E. On Energy, Pedigree Petfoods, and Gala Bingo, is the 14th largest city in the UK.
It’s the most dangerous major city in Nottinghamshire. Out of the 236 cities, towns, and villages in Nottinghamshire, it’s among the 20 most dangerous overall. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Nottingham was 114 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 49 percent higher than the crime rate in Nottinghamshire with a rate of 76 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Nottingham with 14,210 offenses during 2021, producing a crime rate of 45 per 1,000.
In 2020, a total of 34,228 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 108 per 1,000. In 2019, 42,113 were committed with a rate of 133. The year 2018 witnessed 41,970 crimes with a rate of 133. In 2017, the crime rate was 119 with 37,753 crimes. And in 2106, the total crime was 30,097 with a rate of 95 crimes per 1,000 people.
In December 2021, Nottingham was the most dangerous city for bicycle theft, with 52 crimes reported. That month was also a bad month for the city’s residents as it was the most dangerous area in Nottinghamshire for burglary while 110 of these crimes were committed. The city recorded 321 criminal damages and arsons still during December 2021.
4. Birmingham
We just have to agree with the inclusion of Birmingham on this list. This is a city with a population of about 1.1 million with an urban area having just over 2.6 million residents and a metropolitan area with a population of 3.5 million. Birmingham, despite having a coveted reputation as the first manufacturing city in the world some 200 to 150 years ago, is currently one of the most dangerous cities in the UK.
As the most dangerous major city in the West Midlands, Birmingham is among the 10 most dangerous overall out of the 44 cities, towns, and villages in the West Midlands. In 2021, the overall crime rate in this city was 137 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 17 percent higher than the West Midlands’ overall crime rate of 118 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Birmingham during 2021 when some 78,062 of these crimes were committed. That was a rate of 67 per 1,000 and was 38 percent higher than the 2020's figure.
Consider also the historical crime rate for Birmingham, not just what it had in 2021, and form your opinion. In 2020, a total of 123,271 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 106 per 1,000. In 2019, 120,832 were committed with a rate of 104 per 1,000 residents. The city in 2018 witnessed 114,605 crimes with a rate of 99. In 2017, the crime rate was 89 while 103,319 crimes took place. And in 2106, the total crime was 90,930 while at the rate of 78 crimes per 1,000 people.

Regardless of the passion or intensity of the frustration, the hatred shouldn’t be transferred to the persons living in those towns. It should be limited to the conditions making such towns unlivable and infuriating so that the concerned authorities can be called to order. Here are those 10 most hated towns in the UK.
10. Llangefni, Wales
We start our discussion of the most hated in the UK in Wales. Our first point of call is the Welsh town of Llangefni, the county town of Anglesey which also contains the principal offices of the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Llangefni is located near the center of Anglesey. It’s also on the River Cefni, from which it derives its name.
This county town and the second largest on the island is hated because it has only one thing going well for it, namely playing host to local government, enterprise, and industry. Social life and sports are not doing well in the town. And anytime it features in the news, it’s mostly for the wrong reasons.

The town noted for its railway heritage is just 15 miles northwest of Reading, with its station opening as a junction on the Great Western Main Line back in 1844.
The town of Didcot has been described many times as the most aggressive town not only in England but also in the United Kingdom. Regardless of whatever any dissenter found about this town, it will boil down to the same thing—it's a hated town in the UK. Traveling through the station for which it’s known today will put you in confrontation with touts and gangs jumping onto passing trains.
7. Stevenage, England
Stevenage is another one of the most hated towns in the United Kingdom. It’s a large town which many won’t take any offense if it’s referred to as a city. It’s a borough in Hertfordshire, 29 miles north of London. It is east of junctions 7 and 8 of the A1(M). It is located between Letchworth Garden City and Welwyn Garden City to the north and south respectively.
Even at that, those in England hate this town because it’s far cry from what other towns in England have to offer. According to residents, greeting others with eye contact can be considered offensive in this town. Besides, there are a lot of fake brand names in Stevenage this town. A higher rate of pilferage is being reported in this town, even at the instance of the parents.

Baldock is a historic market town in the local government district of North Hertfordshire in the ceremonial county of Hertfordshire, England where the River Ivel rises. It lies 33 miles (53 km) north of London, 15 miles (24 km) southeast of Bedford, and 14 miles (23 km) north northwest of the county town of Hertford. Nearby towns include Royston to the northeast, Letchworth and Hitchin to the southwest and Stevenage to the south.
Paleolithic, Neolithic and Bronze Age settlements show the site of Baldock has been continuously occupied since prehistoric times.
At the beginning of the Iron Age there was a hillfort at Arbury Banks, 5 km to the northeast of Baldock, that dominated the area. In the Late Iron Age (c. 100 BC), the local power base shifted from the hillfort to the vicinity of Baldock. The soil was easily farmed and transportation was more convenient. In the Roman and late Roman eras the community appears to have been both a market town and religious centre. The Roman settlement gradually disappeared. There is no entry for Baldock in the Domesday Book.
The Baldock Festival is a cultural festival which started in 1983 and takes place on the first weekend in May. The festival consists of events throughout the town and the local area, such as museum trips, a barn dance, cheese tasting, brewery tours, clairvoyance evening, cricket match, comedy sketches, family quiz night, mystery tour, open gardens, history talks, and several music events, some of which feature local bands. The festival culminates in the Historic Street Fair held in the High Street, on the second and final weekend where stallholders dress in clothing of the era and help to portray what life was like in the historic town. The Baldock Beer Festival takes place during the first weekend where local and national real ales, real ciders and continental lagers may be sampled.
Thanks to its location, the town was a major staging post between London and the north: many old coaching inns still operate as pubs and hotels, and Baldock has a surprising number of pubs for its size. From the 1770s until 2008 the high street was very wide, a typical feature of medieval market places where more than one row of buildings used to stand. In the case of Baldock, the bottom of the High Street had three such rows, until Butcher's Row was demolished by the Turnpike authorities in the 1770s. In late 2008, a town centre enhancement plan included a narrowing of the road and subsequent widening of paved areas.
Since the 16th century, Baldock has been a centre for malting, subsequently becoming a regional brewing centre with at least three large brewers still operating at the end of the 19th Century, despite a decline in demand for the types of beer produced locally. The 1881 Census records approximately 30 drinking establishments (the town's population was at that time around 1900). Throughout the early 20th century a large number of pubs continued to operate, many of which were sustained by the adjacent and much larger town of Letchworth, which had no alcohol retailers prior to 1958, and had only two pubs and a single hotel bar until the mid-1990s. Its larger population had for many years visited both Baldock and Hitchin for refreshment.

Welwyn Garden City Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Hertfordshire, and around 20 miles north of central London, is the town of Welwyn Garden City, often referred to as, simply, Welwyn (pronounced 'WEL-in').
Welwyn is the second of two garden cities in England. The first was Letchworth Garden City, located around 15 miles to the north, also in Hertfordshire. Both towns (not actual cities, despite the names) share similar origins.
In 1898 Ebenezer Howard wrote 'To-morrow: A Peaceful Path to Real Reform' (later republished as 'Garden Cities of To-morrow'). In it he advocated the construction of a new kind of town combining the advantages of cities and the countryside while eliminating their disadvantages. Industry would be kept separate from residential areas, and trees and open spaces would feature prominently.
Work on Letchworth Garden City began in 1903. Having proven his doubters in the press wrong, Ebenezer Howard went on to purchase land in Hertfordshire that had been identified as a suitable site. In 1920 the company Welwyn Garden City Ltd was formed to plan and build the garden city. The first house was occupied just before Christmas of that year.
The layout of the town comprises of wide tree-lined boulevards with green spaces in the middle. The architecture is typically neo-Georgian, i.e. taking inspiration from the 18th and early 19th century.
In 1948 Welwyn Garden City was designated as a new town. This was part of a post-war scheme to rehouse those whose homes had been destroyed in the Blitz during the Second World War. Fortunately in Welwyn's case, much of the architecture had been established, so it missed out on the blocky mid 20th century buildings typical of other new towns.
Since its inception Welwyn Garden City has always attracted a strong commercial base. The head office of supermarket giant, Tesco, is located in Welwyn. Other companies trading in the town include Xerox, Roche and Ocado. It was also home to a Shredded Wheat factory from 1926 until 2008. For the benefit of those outside the UK or North America, this is a breakfast cereal consisting of one single ingredient - wholewheat.
Famous people from Welwyn Garden City include Nick Faldo, Lisa Snowdon and Alesha Dixon.

Letchworth State Park is a New York state park located 35 miles (56 km) southwest of Rochester and 60 miles (95 km) southeast of Buffalo in Livingston (towns of Leicester, Mount Morris, and Portage) and Wyoming (towns of Castile and Genesee Falls) counties. The park is roughly 17 miles (24 km) long,[2] covering 14,350 acres (58 km2) of land along the Genesee River.[2]
Within the park, there are three large waterfalls on the Genesee River and as many as fifty waterfalls found on tributaries that flow into it; the deep gorge formed by the river, with rock walls rising up to 550 feet (170 m) in places and which narrow to 400 feet (120 m) across above the middle of the three falls, prompted the area's reputation as the Grand Canyon of the East.[3]
The territory of the park was long part of the homeland of the Seneca people, who were largely forced out after the American Revolutionary War, as they had been allies of the defeated British.
In 1856 William Pryor Letchworth (1823-1910), an industrialist, bought 1,000-acre (4 km2) of this territory, and constructed his Glen Iris Estate. In 1906 he bequeathed the estate to New York, which later organized the park of which it is part.[2] Park entrances near the towns of Mount Morris, Perry, Castile and Portageville.
