Chengdu is one of the historic cities in China as well as the hometown of giant pandas. It has a long history of 2300 years, and enjoys the title of the land of abundance. Nowadays, Chengdu has become a tourist city with rich culture.

1. The must-do: Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding
You should definitely head here first thing in the morning to get a decent spot for taking photos of (and laughing at) the panda cubs. We also found that as the day went on more pandas stayed indoors to keep cool.

2. Leshan Giant Buddha- If you ever got a chance to visit Chengdu, China, please do not miss the chance to visit the Buddha statue in Leshan. The Leshan Grand Buddha is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is the largest stone Buddha in the world. The Leshan Giant Buddha is at a distance of about 140km from Chengdu downtown in the north, about 150km to Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.

Usually done as a day trip, it is located about a 2-hour drive outside Chengdu. The Leshan Grand Buddha faces Mount Emei and was built at the confluence of two large rivers to protect those navigating the river from disasters.

SEEING PANDA’S IN CHINA & THE GIANT BUDDHA FROM CHENGDU | Backpacking China Vlog 2

Chengdu is home to the Panda Research and Breeding Centre in China. This is one the places I was most looking forward to visiting in China and it did not disappoint.

As part of my 25 Day China Loop Tour with The Dragon Trip we stayed at Mrs Panda Hostel which I really enjoyed and on our first morning headed to see the famous Panda’s in China. We got to see Baby Panda’s, Giant Panda’s and even Red Panda’s and it was a truly incredible experience. They really are so cute and very dopey!

The Leshan Giant Buddha is another popular places to visit in China and it’s just a few hours away from Chengdu so I took a public bus from Chengdu to Leshan to see the Buddha. The Giant Buddha in Leshan has been carved into the rock face where 2 rivers meet, it’s very impressive and it is very huge!
We climbed to the top and then waited in the queue to go down to the Buddha’s feet before talking the stairs back up to the top.

Chengdu really surprised me, it’s a nice city and there are lots of things to do in Chengdu making it a great place to visit on a backpacking trip around China and a great second stop on my The Dragon Trip Tour!

The Worlds Largest Buddha - The Leshan Giant Buddha | Chengdu, China

The Leshan Giant Buddha is the worlds largest buddha statue. Seeing this magnificent buddha up close was incredible. We've made multiple attempts trying to go to Chengdu to visit the Leshan Buddha, and finally we were able to go.

While in Leshan we saw the Oriental Buddha Palace that has over 3,000 buddhas throughout the park. This was something we were not expecting to see while visiting Leshan, but it was definitely worth the extra entry ticket.

In my free time I was ALWAYS watching travel vloggers on YouTube visit amazing places around the world and I would day dream about doing the same someday. In April 2018 I finally took a BOLD step towards my dream by quitting my job, selling my vehicle and most of my possessions, and moving to China to study martial arts at a buddhist temple for one year and afterwards travel the world and document my adventures on YouTube.
