Countryside Travel Vlog | Azerbaijan | Lankaran | Hirkan National Park | Hidden Gem

There is a place deep in the Hirkan forest where time seems to slow down. It is a cozy corner, right by the cool river, and in order to get there, one must endure 10 km of tedious, curvy, unsurfaced road. It looks like an abandoned tea place, with 4-5 tables and benches still in place. With people escaping the heat of the city, every single resting area has been full. But not this place...Only those who don't like to share their solitude with anyone but nature, drive this extra mile (or 10=) to find this place, where no human noise exists only nature's whisper.

Even on this hot day, tall acacias cover you with the shade of their branches, only occasionally letting a ray of sun escape those feather-like leaves, moving slowly against the blue sky. In the embrace of the greenery of leaves, lulled to sleep by the never-ending song of cicadas, someone's making a fire not too far.

The small river is warm and is noisily making its way in-between the big rocks that are hot from the heat of the day... Looking at this river, makes me wonder if it was flowing like this forever...The sound of the water flowing, the birds singing and the fresh air makes standing up a little challenging as if nature is convincing you to lay down on the grass carpet and rest from your big city noise. There is no reception here, so no phone calls, messages, or notifications would reach you here in a radius of 10 km.

Laying on the grass, looking up at the intertwines branches covered in moss, I remember the last time I was here and how hollow my heart was. I remember walking along the river, hopping from one giant rock to another, without any direction, just away, and then slipping awkwardly from one of the rocks, landing on a tree that left a weird-looking scar on my arm that only now began to fade. If back then this place was healing, today it's recharging and rewriting.

Butterflies are fluttering upwards like the sparkling water bubbles: white and orange against the soft greenery background. When we were kids, we used to always look for a rock with a hole by the river as it supposedly brought luck. There is a pile of shiny smooth rocks near me and I can't remember the last time I looked for my luck by the river.

The same with the four-leaf clover that we all looked for on the green fields... I still carry one that I found many years ago. The clouds turn dark and I can hear the relentless thunder moving in the mountains. It becomes really quiet before the storm otherwise: the cicadas, the birds, even the river flows more quietly it seems like. The rain was not in the forecast, but then the weather here doesn't abide by the expectations of seasons - it indifferently runs its course.

It starts to rain suddenly and all at once, washing the day off completely. Have you ever walked in the river during the rain? The rocks are warm and so is the water that comes only above ankles. The sounds of the river and the rain unite and nature becomes one, taking you with it: for once, being dissolved in the river, by the falling drops of rain - you are as close to nature as you can be, in the eternal harbor of huzur (Turkish: peace, tranquility).

Trip to Lankaran and Astara

Oh yes, I found new love in my country????- Southern Azerbaijan???? Lankaran reminded me of Batumi and Kobuleti, so when you feel Georgia-sick, it’s the best region to go to! As we firstly couldn’t find suitable accommodation, I almost lost hopes for having my long-awaited trip, but my Dad’s perseverance solved the issue????
Astara is just 33 kms away from Lankaran, that's why it would be great to go there as well. In this trip, I could only explore Sim village in Astara, yet there are much more places left to discover. It was quite hard to find this village, we were asking locals for the directions all our way, so I recommend you to find an Azeri guide, or an Azeri friend as your travel partner.
Summer in the South is very humid, but May is perfect to visit the region.
Hope you'll enjoy this vlog and find it useful!
