Episode 155 - Lake Hills, Texas
Medina Lake Thousand Trails in Lake Hills, Texas is over 20 miles off of I-10 about 25 miles west of San Antonio. It is a winding and hilly road through some small towns with tight turns you have to maneuver carefully. When arriving at Lake Hills, we had to take 8th Street to get around the intersections to the campground as the 4th Street corners are just too tight. The sad thing is that Medina Lake is basically dry. The drought and the use of the water for it's intended purpose of irrigation, has left the lake at only 3% of capacity. You can't see any water from the boat ramps at the RV park.
The good thing is that the park is not as crowded since there are no water sports to enjoy. The deer do not seem to mind as they pretty much have the run of the park. Lot's of people feed them, which makes them walk right up to you.
We drove a popular motorcycle route called the Twisted Sisters and enjoyed the scenery, small towns, and local cuisine. Bandera is not far and is a wonderful place to visit with shops and restaurants like the OST (Old Spanish Trail).
