S1 - Ep 17.2 – Travelling through Ladismith to Free-at-Last!

Spending time at these locations and travelling through Ladismith to Free-at-Last gives us the opportunity to relax, reflect and recharge. Making us enjoy the smaller things in life, like the Zebra you couldn’t see and the old churches we find in the small towns. I love the old architecture and styles of construction used to build these magnificent buildings. #dustbugs #travel #southafrica #offroad

3. South Africa has the longest wine route in the world, the R62 wine route

George To Knysna By 7 Passes Road A Garden Route Road Trip Via The Back Roads

The N2 National Road between George and Knysna in the South Africa Garden Route is a pretty scenic one. But if you want really spectacular scenery with mountain passes, historic bridges, dairy farms, mountains, and scenery that wouldn't be out of place in parts of Europe, this is for you. It's around 20 Km longer than the N2 National Road, and has several gravel stretches, but it's totally doable with an ordinary sedan car, a #4x4 isn't a necessity. There are some really good restaurants and tea rooms along the way and did I mention the scenery?

Travelling South Africa // Best of the Garden Route ROAD TRIP WITH DJI DRONE ????

Travel Locations ⇝ Port Elizabeth · Jeffreys Bay · Blue Horizon Bay · Storms River · Knysna · Leisure Island · George · Pringle Bay · Gansbaai Great White Shark Cage Diving · Cape Town · Stellenbosch Wine Country · Table Mountain · Camps Bay · Boulders Beach ????

Want more inspiration? Here are 20 of the best Travel Quotes ↠

We set off for the trip of a lifetime in Port Elizabeth, as we picked up a rental car from the airport and embarked on our own road trip adventure along the Garden Route. The Garden Route is a famous and beautiful scenic drive along the Western Cape, so there were many times that we pulled over at the side of the road just to be in awe of the mountains and people paragliding off them against the backdrop of warm African sunsets. There were so many great memories from this trip, so I'm glad that we have this video, as well as being able to show you what South Africa is really like as a holiday destination.

I was certainly tense at the beginning of the trip, because I've heard many horror stories about crime in South Africa, but as a holiday or vacation destination I found that it was underrated. The natural landscapes, mountains and beaches are phenomenal as you can see from the drone footage (filmed on a DJI Mavic Air) and it seemed that everywhere was surrounded by lush green vegetation and dramatic coastline. Again - the perfect opportunity for some impromptu droneography!

South Africa, and Cape Town in particular, has incredible food on offer and everything was roughly half the price of what it would be in England. We also had the life changing experience of going cage diving with Great White Sharks. It was certainly an adrenaline rush, but I also learnt a lot about them and myself as you can read here ????(

I really hope that you enjoy this Travel Vlog and all of the South African scenery - and if you do, don't forget to SUBSCRIBE to this channel because we have more big trips coming up soon including Japan, Australia and Canada!

Hi I’m Liz! Welcome to my YouTube channel ????????‍???? ✨

I help people to find connection and teach about the power of intuition. It’s my life purpose and what I LOVE to do...

I am the CEO & Founder of LIZ ROBERTA SPIRITUAL COACHING and I currently offer intuitive Tarot readings, 1 to 1 transformation coaching (3 month ‘Spiritual Success’ program & ‘VIP Power Hour’ options) and online courses.

I am so passionate about this work because it’s my soul purpose and my own life completely changed when I got into energetic alignment. Manifesting became easier than ever, I began to feel happier and more emotionally stable, and I could finally listen to my intuition because I had started living in a higher frequency.

Going through a spiritual awakening to get there wasn’t easy though – especially as I started to open up my psychic gifts (clairaudience, clairsentience, clairvoyance etc) – so I started going to psychic development classes and mediumship circles in Glastonbury. I learned a lot! I also have a background as a University lecturer in marketing, so I can coach soulpreneurs (aka heart centred entrepreneurs) on how to use social media to launch & grow a spiritual brand, attract ideal clients and avoid burnout. #Calitzdorp
Calitzdorp is a town on the Western side of the Little or Klein Karoo in the Western Cape Province of South Africa and lies on South Africa's Route 62.

The farm Buffelsvallei, on which Calitzdorp stands, was granted to Jacobus Johannes and Matthys Christiaan Calitz in 1831. The brothers donated part of their farm for the establishment of a church in 1853 and in 1858 the church started the sale of plots to church members. In 1924 a railway line was opened, in 1937 electrification and a new cement road to Oudtshoorn was completed.

The Swartberg (in the North), Rooiberge (to the South) and the Mountains of the Huisrivier Pass (to the West) surrounds Calitzdorp's challenging landscape with floods, droughts and extreme weather, from very hot to snow clad mountaintops in the winter.

Summers are very hot during the day, mainly a dry heat, up to 40 °C. Wind from the sea every afternoon allows for moderate, cool evenings. Winters have sunny days, very cold nights with occasional frost and snow often falling on the surrounding Swartberg Mountain Range. Rainfall is approximately 200 mm per year, often with the changing of seasons. Prevailing winds are mainly from the south in summer and hot wind from the North in August.

Calitzdorp is a haven for enthusiasts of fishing, bird-watching, cycling, 4×4 and other scenic routes, horse-riding and wine tasting.

Calitzdorp is renowned as a centre of the port wine industry in South Africa with several major wine estates famous for their award-winning products. A Port festival takes place in the town in mid-June each year.

#HuisrivierPass
The Huisrivier Pass is a mountain pass in Western Cape, South Africa, between Calitzdorp to the east and the old missionary stations of Zoar and Amaliënstein to the west. The pass peaks at 655 m above sea level and has a maximum gradient of 1 in 14. It crosses the R62 provincial road over the Huisrivier Mountains, a spur of the Swartberg. The name huis comes from the Khoikhoi word for willow.

The original pass was built in 1897 and renovated during the 1950s, followed by further improvement and pavement in 1966. Graham Ross, the acting District Road Inspector in 1951, searched for means to widen the pass, but could not find any. Retaining walls have been built to divert frequent rockslides.

#Ladismith
Ladismith is a town and agricultural centre in the western Little Karoo region of South Africa's Western Cape province.

It is situated adjacent to a series of fertile, irrigated valleys, at an elevation of 550 m above sea level, at the southern base of the Swartberg. It is currently included in the southern Kannaland Local Municipality. The nearest towns are Calitzdorp to the east, Vanwyksdorp and Riversdale to the south and Laingsburg to the north.

In 1852 the farm Elandsvlei was set aside for the town, and it became a municipality in 1862. It was named after Lady Juana María Smith, the wife of Sir Harry Smith, one of two towns in South Africa named after her, the other being Ladysmith in KwaZulu-Natal.

#Ladismith is a town and agricultural centre in the western Little Karoo region of South Africa's Western Cape province.

It is situated adjacent to a series of fertile, irrigated valleys, at an elevation of 550 m above sea level, at the southern base of the Swartberg. #Barrydale is a village located on the border of the Overberg and Klein Karoo regions of the Western Cape Province in South Africa. It was named after Joseph Barry, a well known merchant of the 19th century. It is situated at the northern end of the Tradouw's pass which winds its way through the mountains to Swellendam.

The history dates back to the early 18th century when farmers moved into the area looking for fertile arable land with water. The community built their church on a spot where the R62 and R324 roads meet. In the days before the church was built there were a number of nagmaal houses (houses where Holy Communion could be celebrated) and a school, but not much else. The Dutch Reformed Community of Barrydale came into being in 1878 when land was purchased to build the church.

As the farmers in the area were encouraged to plant vineyards and orchards, it was natural that a winery and distillery would eventually be built. In 1940 the Barrydale Koöperatiewe Wynkelder was formed and a distillery established giving rise to the wine industry in the area. Joseph Barry Brandy, produced locally, was voted best brandy in the world in 2003.

Over the years the village grew and eventually a municipality was established in 1921. Today there is an estimated population of ~4100 permanent residents. The population increases dramatically in the tourist season, with visitors drawn by arts and crafts displays including textiles, jewellery and African souvenirs.

Barrydale has a temperate climate of warm, dry summers with averages of 25°C occasionally up to 35°C, and mild, wet winters when the temperature occasionally dips to around -1°C accompanied by light frosts.

The warm temperate climate is perfect for the growth of various fruit trees with numerous orchards on the fertile soils of the Tradouw Valley. Apples, pears and oranges are harvested in the winter and crops of apricots, figs, cling peaches and grapes in the summer.

The annual Barrydale Spring Festival in October is an important event on the town's calendar. The Joseph Barry Tradouw Pass Half Marathon attracts a large number of runners who compete over a 21 km course through the pass.

S1 - Ep 13 – Matjiesfontein, what a historic little town!

To continue our travels around the country we had to go back to Prince Albert where we left off in the last episode. On our way there we stopped off at Matjiesfontein. This historic town situated along the N1 is a must visit. This little town was able to give us a few meters of gravel road to travel on, which is always our goal, some gravel road somewhere. #dustbugs #travel #southafrica #travelsouthafrica

S1 – Ep 406 – Oudtshoorn – Sandstone Buildings Lined the Streets!

We had quite an adventurous trip to Oudtshoorn, enduring misty conditions on our drive through Robinson Pass, which obscured the scenic vistas, but we pressed on. Our stay at The Old Mill Lodge, just outside Oudtshoorn, left us thoroughly impressed, with the soothing sound of the river and the stunning natural beauty around us. The next morning, brimming with energy, we ventured into Oudtshoorn and were, despite the persistent rain, immediately captivated and enthused by the charming old sandstone buildings that lined the streets. It promised to be an incredible experience and indeed it was. #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #travelongravel #westerncape #oudtshoorn

DRIVING THROUGH BEAUTIFUL SWELLENDAM TOWN IN WESTERN CAPE PROVINCE OF SOUTH AFRICA

Swellendam is a small historical town in Western Cape Province of South Africa on scenic road from Cape Town to George and Knysna and part of magnificent Garden Route.

#Swellendam #WesternCape #SouthAfrica

Accommodation South Africa:

Swellendam is the third oldest town in South Africa after Cape Town and Stellenbosch, a town with around 17,500 inhabitants situated in the Western Cape Province. The town has over 50 provincial heritage sites, most of them buildings of Cape Dutch architecture. Swellendam is situated on N2 highway, approximately 220 km from both Cape Town and George.

Early travellers and explorers who visited the Cape in the 16th century traded with the Khoikhoi people who lived on these shores and in the interior. When the Dutch East India Company established a replenishment station at the Cape in 1652, trade continued inland as far as Swellendam.

In 1743 Swellendam was declared a magisterial district, the third-oldest in South Africa, and was named after Governor Hendrik Swellengrebel, the first South African born Governor, and his wife, Helena Ten Damme. This outlying settlement soon became a gateway to the interior, and was visited by many famous explorers and travellers including François Le Vaillant (1781), Lady Anne Barnard (1798), William John Burchell (1815), and Thomas William Bowler (1860). In time, a village was established beyond the Drostdy, where artisans including numerous traders settled. Swellendam was the last outpost of Dutch civilisation on the eastern frontier, and thus the services of the residents of the town were of utmost importance.

By 1795, maladministration and inadequacies of the Dutch East India Company caused the long-suffering burgers of Swellendam to revolt, and on 17 June 1795 they declared themselves a Republic. Hermanus Steyn was appointed as President of the Republic of Swellendam. The burgers of Swellendam started to call themselves national burgers – after the style of the French Revolution. However, the Republic was short-lived, and was ended on 4 November 1795 when the Cape was occupied by the Kingdom of Great Britain. With the arrival of British settlers in the early 19th century the Overberg boomed, and Swellendam was soon the heart of the mercantile empire of Barry and Nephews, created by Joseph Barry, which dominated trade in the area up until 1870. The Breede River is the only navigable river in South Africa and ships sailed 35 km up river to Malgas to unload and load merchandise.

By the middle of the 19th century, the eastern districts had been colonised by the British settlers and Swellendam was a thriving metropolis. The town served as a useful refreshment station on the long, slow journey up the coast. Today Swellendam is a flourishing agricultural area, and has many attractive and historic buildings which serve as a reminder of its past. The first known sketch of Swellendam was of the Drostdy, by Johannes Schumacher in 1776, when he accompanied the son of Governor Swellengrebel to the town. Today the Drostdy forms part of a museum complex that consist of several heritage sites, namely the Drostdy, the old Gaol, and Mayville.

In June 2011, the Swellendam Municipality area, which includes Barrydale, Suurbraak, Malgas, Infanta, and Stormsvlei, re-declared itself a Republic. This republic is dedicated to the principles of the New South Africa, and celebrates rural life, racial harmony, respect for nature and wildlife, and aims to promote sustainability and an unplugged way of life for all to enjoy.
