The Castle of Schoten is a castle in the Antwerp municipality of Schoten. The first mention of the Court of Schoten dates back to 1232. The Castle has a rather striking resemblance to the smaller Castle Bouvigne in the Dutch city of Breda, yet there is no known relationship between the two castles. In 1548, the construction of the original castle started, in 1611 the final reconstruction of the castle was done, giving it its present form.
The Castle is located in the park of Schoten and is surrounded by a moat, a falcon tower and a large farm barn the Riddershoeve that is now a café and restaurant. they are also part of the Castle grounds. The public park has sports facilities, a children's playground and a small animal farm. You can find the castles at this address: Kasteeldreef 61, Schoten.

In 1843 Charles, descendant of a long line of landowners and later the second count de Kerchove Denterghem (1819-1882) married Eugénie de Limon de Steenbrugghe (1824-1899), the eldest daughter of Thérèse de Limon . After the death of Thérèse on May 14, 1872, Charles and Eugenie became heirs to vast land and also to the second home in Beervelde, which was falling into ruin.
Count Charles and Countess Eugenie decided to build a new and larger castle, next to the old dilapidated castle. Théophile Bureau (1827-1884) was the designer. The German-born Brussels landscape architect Fuchs (1818-1904) was assigned to transform the fields and woods surrounding the castle into a park. It was not an easy task.

Brussels, Belgium - Royal Palace of Brussels (2018)
The Royal Palace of Brussels is the official palace of the King and Queen of the Belgians in the centre of the nation's capital Brussels. However it is not used as a royal residence, as the king and his family live in the Royal Palace of Laeken on the outskirts of Brussels. The website of the Belgian Monarchy describes the function of the palace as follows:
The Palace is where His Majesty the King exercises his prerogatives as Head of State, grants audiences and deals with affairs of state. Apart from the offices of the King and the Queen, the Royal Palace houses the services of the Grand Marshal of the Court, the King's Head of Cabinet, the Head of the King's Military Household and the Intendant of the King's Civil List. The Palace also includes the State Rooms where large receptions are held, as well as the apartments provided for foreign Heads of State during official visits.
The palace is situated in front of Brussels Park. A long square called the Paleizenplein/Place des Palais separates the palace from the park. The middle axis of the park marks both the middle peristyle of the palace and the middle of the facing building on the other side of the park, which is the Palace of the Nation (the Belgian Federal Parliament building). The two facing buildings are said to symbolize Belgium's system of government: a constitutional monarchy.
As often mentioned it has a facade 50% longer than that of Buckingham Palace but its floor area of 33,027 m2 is less than half of Buckingham Palace's floor area (77,000 m2)

Belgium: Ooidonk Castle and its park
Ooidonk Castle is a monumental ancient moated castle south of the Belgian village of Sint-Maria-Leerne, not far from Deinze.
A fortress was first built on the site of the present castle in 1230, intended to defend the city of Ghent and to fortify the river Leie.
After its destruction is was rebuilt and enlarged from 1381 onwards. Moats were added, so that the castle could only be reached by drawbridge, and the defences were strengthened with four towers.
In the 15th century the castle came into the possession of the well-known French noble family of Montmorency.
In the turmoil of religious wars the castle was destroyed twice, in 1491 and in 1579. After the fire of 1579 it was rebuilt again, and this building survives as the present castle.
Ooidonk Castle is now privately owned.
The owner has expanded the castle, without prejudice to the playful Flemish Renaissance style. In the 19th century, the interior was renovated and the gardens were redesigned.
Ooidonk Castle is open to visitors since 1958 from 1 April to 15 September, the surrounding park (French gardens) can be visited during the whole year.
