Aachen is one of our top 10 cities in Germany and worth a visit. Aachen Cathedral is world-famous. And so are the tasty Printen. Aachen is located at the border triangle of Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Because of this location, you can feel Europe everywhere you go. We are theTravellers and show you Aachen in 5 minutes.
We start our Aachen tour at the city hall. It's worth taking a look inside. We continue to the Centre Charlemange city museum. On the way through the old town we eat some Printen. We pass the Elisenbrunnen - another landmark of Aachen. A little further out of town is the Lousberg. From here you have a view of the city from above.
If you're in Aachen for the weekend or even longer, e.g. for ERASMUS at rwth Aachen, it's worth taking a day trip to Monschau and the border triangle.

Aachen is a spa city near Germany’s borders with Belgium and the Netherlands. Aachen Cathedral was founded around 800 A.D. and a Gothic chancel was added later.
Its Domschatzkammer (treasury) has medieval artifacts including the shrine of Charlemagne, who was buried here in 814 A.D. Nearby is the baroque town hall, Aachener Rathaus, with 19th-century frescoes. Sulfurous water fills the fountains of Elisenbrunnen.

Ein Tag in Aachen | WDR Reisen
Die alte Kaiserstadt Aachen liegt im Dreiländereck von Deutschland, Niederlande und Belgien. Karl der Große hat sie sehr geprägt. Vor allem verdanken die Aachener ihm den Dom. Daneben entdeckt Lisa Kestel auf ihrem Rundgang aber auch Thermalquellen, Printenbäcker, Studentenkneipen und viele andere wunderschöne Ecken. Sie beendet den Ausflug im Stadtwald mit einem Begleiter auf vier Hufen.

Here we have a video we have put together from our trip to Aachen in Germany. This pretty little German city is on the border with the Netherlands & Belgium, and is home to one of UNESCO's first World Heritage Sites - it's Cathedral.

Aachen – European flair in the border triangle. Germany
Aachen has been around for millennia. The Romans nursed their war wounds and stiff joints in the steaming waters of its mineral springs, but it was Charlemagne who put the city firmly on the European map. The emperor, too, enjoyed a dip now and then, but it was more for strategic reasons that he made Aachen the geographical and political capital of his vast Frankish Empire in 974 – arguably the first empire with European dimensions.

Today's tour is in Aachen city, Germany. It is the westernmost city in Germany, and borders Belgium and the Netherlands to the west, the triborder area. It is located between Maastricht (NL) and Liège (BE) in the west, and Bonn and Cologne[b] in the east. The Wurm River flows through the city, and together with Mönchengladbach. Aachen is well known for being home to the first UNESCO World Heritage Site in Germany - Aachen Cathedral.
In today's tour, we will walk through the city, passing it's most beautiful streets, buildings, churches, monuments and squares, stroll through its narrow, winding lanes, and enjoy the flair of the westernmost major city in Germany. Dans ce vlog découvre avec moi le village Montjoie Monschau en Allemagne qui se trouve à la frontière de la Belgique dans la région de l’Eifel

Ce village de 12 000 habitants se trouve en Allemagne à la frontière de la Belgique dans la région de l’Eifel
C’est est un des rares villages d’Allemagne dont le centre historique a été préservé des bombardements de la seconde guerre mondiale
Il est resté dans son jus de l’époque avec ces nombreuses maisons à colombages, d’ailleurs il compte près de 200 bâtisses classées monuments historiques.
Au milieu coule une rivière qui porte le nom de Roer
Il était autrefois rattaché à la France et pour la petite histoire Montjoie est une déclinaison du mot germanique Mundgawi qui signifie : Protection du territoire et au fil du temps le nom s’est mal traduit et a été remplacé par le mot latin Monsgaudii qui signifie : Mont de la joie
C’est donc pour cela que Monschau porte le nom Montjoie en Français
N’hésite pas à te faufiler dans les petites rues et les petits escaliers
Ne loupe pas la superbe église Evangelische Stadtkirche dont l’accès se fait par un pont.
Et la petite place principale du village qui s’appelle Markt avec son église Aukloster
Il y a un superbe point de vue sur le village (Panoramaweg), qu’il faut absolument faire, en empruntant des petits escaliers rue Stehlings (5 minutes de montée).
Il y a un autre point de vue très intéressant sur la ville avec une table de pique-nique qui s’appelle Aussichtspunkt
Les plus courageux pourront faire un tas de randonnées autour du village, d’ailleurs il y a un point information tourisme (au 16 Stadtstraße) avec de nombreuses cartes et itinéraires
Sinon plus d’infos sur les randonnées sur le site officiel :
Moi j’ai commencé ma randonnée en partant de la petite chapelle Saint-Antoine (Antoniuskapelle) qui se trouve au bord de la rivière, de là il y a un petit chemin avec des petits ponts en bois pour monter sur les hauteurs, c’est superbe.
J’ai emprunté le sentier numéro 25 qui mène à une seconde petite chapelle Rinkberg Kapellchen.
À partir de là le sentier change de numéro pour devenir le numéro 100.
Il porte également le numéro 51 un peu plus loin pour arriver au superbe lac Perlenbachtalsperre
Je te conseille d’aller tout au bout du lac
J’ai terminé ma randonnée tout au bout du lac jusqu’à un petit pont de bois
Cette randonnée emprunte un d’un des tronçons du tracé du GR56 (notamment le long du lac).
Durée de la balade sans aucune pause photo : 1h30
Si tu viens comme moi quelques jours avant Noël, sache que dans le village les festivités de Noël dont le marcher de Noël commence fin Novembre et se termine étrangement 1 semaine avant Noël (oui c’est n’importe quoi!)

The municipality consists of the following sub-municipalities: Kelmis proper, Hergenrath, and Neu-Moresnet.
The territory around the Vieille Montagne zinc mine in Kelmis was Neutral Moresnet, a neutral condominium of the Netherlands and Prussia (later Belgium and Germany) from 1816 to 1919, with the Mayor of Kelmis nominated by two commissioners from the neighbouring countries. Although there were attempts by locals at making it evolve into a fully independent microstate, all of them were thwarted and it remained under double-sovereignty and neutrality until its eventual annexation by Belgium after World War I.
There is a war memorial to German soldiers from Kelmis who were killed during the Franco-Prussian War, located in the Aachener Strasse, and one to inhabitants of Kelmis who were killed in the First and Second World Wars, located in the Kirchplatz (French: Place de l'Église).
A small museum in Kelmis, the Museum Vieille Montagne, includes exhibits on Neutral Moresnet. Of the 60 border markers for the territory, more than 50 are still standing.
In the nineteenth century a Low Dietsch dialect was spoken in Kelmis. Today Kelmis is German speaking. It has facilities for French speaking and is one of the nine municipalities of the German‑speaking Community of Belgium.

Découvrir la diversité des Cantons de l'Est
L’atout principal des Cantons de l'Est réside avant tout dans la nature, les paysages époustouflants entre Eifel et Ardenne, et d'innombrables opportunités de s’imprégner de ce vert omniprésent. Outre les paysages uniques, il existe de nombreux lieux d’excursion et sites à visiter pendant vos vacances.
Parmi les curiosités, il y a des musées, des établissements d’art et culturels, des châteaux, des bâtiments historiques et des églises; de très beaux lacs de baignade et des piscines offrent des moments de plaisir refraîchissants pour toute la famille.
Pour les amateurs de loisirs actifs, il y a naturellement le vélo et la randonnée, mais également de multiples activités ludiques qui permettent de découvrir le pays et ses habitants. Des monuments commémoratifs et des emblèmes bien conservés font revivre l'histoire de cette région frontalière. Les habitants sont fiers de leur région, de leurs produits du terroir, des traditions vivantes et des miracles de la nature qui rythment chaque année.
Chaque région a sa propre identité : à Raeren, un musée de la poterie installé dans un château fort entouré d'eau. A Eupen, capitale de la Communauté germanophone, les palais et maisons bourgeoises font la fierté de la ville haute. En été, la ville de Malmedy se pare de mille vasques de fleurs. Son ancienne abbaye, aujourd’hui appelée le Malmundarium, est en outre devenue un Centre touristique et culturel moderne. Bütgenbach est surtout connu pour son lac de barrage et les loisirs nautiques que l’on pratique au Centre de loisirs „Worriken“. La ville de St-Vith s’illustre par ses excellents restaurants et un environnement rural attrayant, au carrefour de l'Eifel et de l‘Ardenne.

Kelmis is een Duitstalige gemeente in de Belgische provincie Luik.
Ter hoogte van de Casinoweiher start ook een mooie wandeling ('Bloemenvallei') van 9 kilometer. Het meertje en de stortbergen waarlangs u in het begin van de wandeling passeert, vormen de overblijfselen van de mijnsite waar we tegenwoordig een uitzonderlijke flora aantreffen. Ook het kasteel van Eyneburg ligt vlakbij. Het groene landschap heeft alles in zich om u van een aangename wandeling te laten genieten langsheen, bosjes, hagen en boomgaarden.
