Gokak Falls
The Gokak Falls is a waterfall located on the Ghataprabha River in Belagavi district of Karnataka, India. The waterfall is 6 km away from Gokak town.
After a long winding course, the Ghataprabha river takes a leap of 52 metres (171 ft) over the sandstone cliff amidst a picturesque gorge of the rugged valley, resembling Niagara Falls on a smaller scale. The waterfall is horse shoe shaped at the crest, with a flood breadth of 177 metres (581 ft).
Gokak gets its name due to the Goki trees found in abundance in these areas. The proud aspect for the Kannadigas is that the electricity was generated for the first time in the country in 1887 here. The generating station can be reached on the ropeway. Recommended only for the extra courageous! A walk down either banks of the rocky gorge rewards you with ancient monuments waiting to be explored.

Gokak Sightseeings
1. Godchinamalaki Falls
Situated at a distance of around 20 kilometres, Godchinamalaki falls is a popular tourist destination. It is renowned for its stepwise arrangement that is spanned approx. 100 metres in length, with a step at every 30 metres!
2. Gokak Falls
Renowned as the Karnataka’s Niagara; Gokak falls is located around 6 kilometres from Gokak. The waterfall has a height of around 170 feets. It is also famous for its ‘hanging wooden bridge’, which spans across 210 metres in length and it was built in the year 1907.
3. Yogi Kolla
One of the scenic beauty spots, the Yogi Kolla is a small village located in the foot of Western Ghats. There is a renowned Temple here located in a cave type opening. One has to climb around 800 to 900 steps in order to reach it.
4. Ghataprabha Bird Sanctuary
Spread over an area of 29.78 square kilometres; Ghataprabha bird sanctuary is situated around 20 kilometres away from Gokak. This sanctuary is renowned for migratory birds like European white stork and Demoiselle crane.
5. Mahalingeshwara Temple
Built around 1153 AD, this temple is one of the oldest temples here. It is situated around 7 kilometres away from Gokak. It is built in the later Chalukyan type of architecture.
7. Hidkal Dam
Hidkal dam is located around 25 kilometres from Gokak. It is a water reservoir and a renowned tourist spot as well. Every year, a large number of migratory birds usually flock the water reservoir and it is therefore a well renowned bird watching spot.

The Gokak waterfall is located at a distance of 6 km from Gokak on the Ghataprabha River in the Belgaum district.
The Ghataprabha River separated from the Malaprabha river by the Belgaum hills flows through the black soil plains before it enters the rocky belt of Gokak.
After a long winding course, Ghataprabha River takes a leap of 170 ft over the sandstone cliff. The cliff is in a picturesque gorge of the Gokak valley and is in the shape of a horseshoe. Except the width and color of the water, the general characteristics of the fall, height, shape and speed look a lot like Niagara Falls on a smaller scale. The dull roar of the falls can be heard long before it attained.
There is a hanging bridge across the river, about 201 meters and its height above the bed rock is measuring about 14 meters. Only 30 people are allowed at a time inside the bridge.
There is an old electricity generation station and electricity was generated here for the first time in the country in 1887.
One interesting feature of this place is the monuments from the Chalukya era that are found on either bank of the rocky gorge. Another attraction of this place is the very old river-front temple dedicated to Lord Mahalingeshwara, built in the Later Chalukyan style of architecture.

This video is 1st video in series of a trip to Karnataka State of India. In this trip we have planned to visit Gokak, Hampi, Badami, Pattadakal. All this is an effort to bring to you unseen offbeat places which is our mission of our Journey Deals channel.
We will leave from my home town, Pune city in Maharashtra state of India. First day we will stay in Gokak. But before check in the hotel, we will go to visit 2 waterfalls after lunch in Gokak. We have not booked any hotel for this trip. We will book hotel stay on the spot as and when we reach on the destinations.

Tourists can also visit monuments on both sides of the rocky gorge which include temples of Goddess Durga, Lord Shanmukha and Lord Mahalingeshwara built in the traditional Chalukyan style of architecture.
3. Mahalingeshwara Temple:

Godachinamalki Falls Gokak
Godachinamalki Falls is a splendid waterfall situated in a lush green valley of Karnataka. The waterfall is located in the Belgaum district of the state, near the village of Godachinamalki that stands at a distance of about 15 km from Gokak town and 40 km from Belgaum town. The waterfall has a height of about 50 feet.
The incredibly beautiful waterfall is formed by the river Markhandeya. As such, the waterfall is also known as Markandeya Falls.
The charm of Godachinamalki Falls is due to the fact that the waterfall is a cascading one and so, the drop is not sudden. The water descends through several steps before it takes the final plunge to fall into the valley. The mist formed by the falling water and the scenic beauty of the place is simply breath-taking. The waterfall and the surrounding landscape present a panoramic view that attracts visitors to just stand near it and enjoy the magic of nature.
It is a perfect spot for enjoying a day out with friends and family. That is why it is a popular picnic spot.

It’s located near catchment area of #hidkal dam. And enjoy the photos presented by me which I took around 6:30pm.
Every year on Ugadi, there will be celebration here with some folk dance , songs etc
People from villages which are nearby #Hidkal dam gather to celebrate Ugadi here in this temple.
This temple will be visible only in summer and winters, in rainy season it will be submerged in backwater of Hidkal Dam. So best time to visit is January to July.
This temple is located around 40km from #Belagavi, and 55km from #Gokak.
Many houses were there along with this temple before
Raja Lakhamagouda dam (hidkal dam)constructions begins, once the dam project started , as many as 4 villages were shifted to some other nearby places by Govt, however this temple was untouched.

1977 ರಲ್ಲಿ ಲೋಕಾರ್ಪಣೆಗೊಂಡ ಡ್ಯಾಂ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಎಲ್ಲ ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಳು ಮುಳುಗಿದವು ಅದರಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವ ಹಳ್ಳಿಗಳ ಅವಶೇಷಗಳು ನೋಡಲು ಸಿಗುವುದಿಲ್ಲ ಆದರೆ 1928 ರಲ್ಲಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣಗೊಂಡ ಹುನ್ನುರಿನ ವಿಠ್ಠಲ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಸತತ ಹತ್ತರಿಂದ ಹನ್ನೊಂದು ತಿಂಗಳು ನೀರಿನಿಂದ ಜಲಾವೃತಗೊಂಡಿರುತ್ತದೆ.
ವರ್ಷದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಸಿಗೆ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲಿ ನೀರು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಆದ ನಂತರ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು 15-30 ದಿನಗಳ ಕಾಲ ಮಾತ್ರ ನೋಡಲು ಸಿಗುತ್ತದೆ.ಕೆಲವೊಂದಸಾರಿ ನೀರು ಹಿಂದೆಸರಿಯದ ವರ್ಷ ಕಾಣುವುದೆ ಇಲ್ಲ. ಅದ್ಬುತ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಸತತ ನೀರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದರು ಎನು ಆಗದೆ ಗಟ್ಟಿಯಾಗಿ ನಿಂತುಕೊಂಡಿದೆ.
ಡ್ಯಾಂಗೆ ಸಮೀಪ ಇರುವದರಿಂದ ನೀರಿನ ಹೋಡೆತಕ್ಕೆ ಗುಡಿಯ ಸುತ್ತ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ ಒಂದು ಭಾಗದ ಗೋಡೆ ಮಾತ್ರ ಕುಸಿದಿದೆ.
ಹುನ್ನುರ ಗ್ರಾಮ ಅಲ್ಲೆ ಪಕ್ಕದ ಗುಡ್ಡದ ಮೇಲೆ ಸ್ಥಳಾಂತರವಾದ ನಂತರ ಅಲ್ಲು ಕೂಡಾ ಒಂದು ವಿಠ್ಠಲ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿದ್ದಾರೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಸುತ್ತಮುತ್ತಲಿನ ಹುಕ್ಕೇರಿ ತಾಲೂಕಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಯಾವುದೇ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಕೂಡಾ ಇಷ್ಟು ಚೆಂದವಾಗಿ ನಿರ್ಮಾಣ ಮಾಡಿದ್ದು ಇಲ್ಲಾ . ಎರಡು ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನಗಳ ಪಟವನ್ನು ಹಂಚಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದೆನೆ ಬಿಡುವಿದ್ದರೆ ಒಮ್ಮೆ ವಿಡಿಯೋ ನೋಡಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಭೇಟಿ ಕೊಡಿ.
