Helicopter Emergency Procedures Training - Robinson R44
Join me on my 6th lesson in a Robinson R44 Raven 2!
Today we'll be practicing 4 different types of emergencies and learn how to manipulate the controls in these situations. As my instructor Bjorn says, this might be the most fun part of learning how to fly a helicopter.
1:55 Hydraulic failure= Most helicopters use hydraulics to reduce the force needed to move the controls. When you loose hydraulic pressure, you'll have to fly the aircraft using much more force to move the controls. This makes handling more difficult.
6:32 (electrical) Governor failure= A governor is a device or system which controls engine power output such that the main rotor maintains a constant RPM. When the pilot raises collective, putting more pitch on the blades, and thus increasing the power required, the governor system would add more fuel to the engine such that the extra power required is exactly balanced by extra power output. The result is that even though power required goes up and down, the rotor RPM remains constant. During a governor failure you have to control the RPM's yourself, which becomes quite difficult when you need to land.
11:15 Stuck pedal= when you are unable to move the pedals and manipulate the tail rotor. This means manipulation around the vertical axis must be done with power (torque)
14:32 Autorotaion= simulated engine failure.
A condition of helicopter flight during which the main rotor of a helicopter is driven only by aerodynamic forces with no power from the engine. It is a manoeuvre where the engine is disengaged from the main rotor system and the rotor blades are driven solely by the upward flow of air through the rotor.

Aerobatics, parachuting and Russian helicopters display daring stunts during Aero India Air Show at the Yelahanka Air Force Station, Bengaluru, India.
Aero India is a biennial air show and aviation exhibition held in Bengaluru, India at the Yelahanka Air Force Station. It is organized by Defence Exhibition Organisation, Ministry of Defense. It is second largest air show in the world after Paris Air Show.
Aero India 2013 started on 6 February 2013 at the IAF's Yelahanka Air Force base, Bengaluru and ended on 10 February 2013. 607 companies attended the air show, with 352 foreign and 78 official national delegations. The major foreign companies were from US (67 companies), France (49), United Kingdom (33), Russia (29) and Germany (22).
Major attraction of this edition were the Dassault Rafale, Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, HAL Rudra, HAL Tejas, HAL Light Combat Helicopter, and the Russian Knights aerobatic team, who had come to India to perform for the first time. Major aircraft manufacturing companies like Lockheed Martin, Saab, and the British Aerospace did not showcase any aircraft this time, however an air force F-16 was part of the static display. The Suryakiran aerobatic team did not take part as it was grounded.

Cup KB M. Mil' - annual helicopter competitions dedicated to the engineer helicopter systems and the greatest designer of the aviation industry of the Russian Federation. In 1964, Miles became the general designer of an experienced design bureau. The Mi-2, Mi-4, Mi-6, Mi-8, Mi-10, Mi-12, Mi-24 and other helicopters were created by his team. 60 official world records were set on the machines developed in the design bureau. Together with his students, Mikhail Leontievich developed the theory of a modern helicopter. In 1958, Miles was awarded the Lenin Prize, in 1968 - the USSR State Prize, in 1966 he was awarded the title Hero of Socialist Labor. Mikhail Leont'evich Mil (9 (22) November 1909, Irkutsk - January 31, 1970, Moscow) During the Great Patriotic War, in 1941-1943, Mile worked in the evacuation in the village of Bilimbay, in the Middle Urals, which became in fact the aviation capital of the USSR. The best aircraft designers worked here - S. A. Lavochkin, N. I. Kamov. In 1943, Mile defended his thesis Criteria for controllability and maneuverability of the aircraft; in 1945 - doctoral: Dynamics of the rotor with hinged blades and its application to the problems of stability and controllability of the gyroplane and helicopter.
