10 Must Try Tokyo Restaurants in Japan | Tokyo Food Guide

Here's is my top 10 must try Tokyo restaurants in Japan. This took awhile for me to make since there were so many delicious restaurants in Tokyo and there were many that I wanted to include! Doing a top 25 probably would have been easier then doing a top 10 must eat foods in Tokyo list ???? I'm sure this list will change if I ever go back to Japan, but for now these are my top 10 places that I would recommend to anyone visiting or that lives in Tokyo!

All of these places are covered in my food vlogs that you can check out if you want a more information about each location and what what you should eat there. I think I covered a good range of places for you to eat at from Asakusa Street Food, to delicious desserts, best ramen in Tokyo, and also my favorite sushi places in Tokyo. Hopefully this top 10 list will serve as a good tokyo food guide and will add to yours of things to do in Tokyo. If you have any questions on these places that I visited feel free to leave a comment below!

FAQ
================================

Q: How long was the trip?
A: Around 18 days. But I would say it's doable in 2 weeks. If you want more time to explore then 3 weeks should be more than adequate.

Q: How many days do I need in each city?
A: I would say 3-5 days in Kyoto and Osaka. Nara 1-2 days. At least 4-6 days in Tokyo but the more the better.

Q: How much did it cost?
A: Excluding hotels + airplane tickets we had a budget of around 2000 USD

Q: Is there vegan restaurant options in Japan?
A: Yes, I found plenty, and most restaurants offer vegan-friendly meals

Q: Which month did you go?
A: We visited in July but I would recommend visiting in either the Autumn or Spring season

Q: Where did you stay overnight?
A: You can find links to the different accommodations above + alternatives.

5 Must-Try Japanese Food Experiences in Tokyo

Japanese Food is awesome, and the overall dining experience is just as fun. If you are looking for places to eat in Tokyo, here are five great Japanese food experiences that I love while living in Tokyo.

1. Japanese Grill (Robata) - You sit around a few men who cook all of the meat and vegetables right in front of you on a grill. You just point to what you want and they grab it with their giant wooden spatulas.

2. Ramen - My favorite Japanese food, and perhaps the most well recognized Japanese dish apart from sushi. There are hundreds of places to choose from in Tokyo, each with their own rendition of the classic. One spot where you can get a large variety of options is on Ramen Street in the lower level of Tokyo Station.

3. Yakitori - Meat and veggies on sticks, cooked over a similar grill as the Robata, Yakitori is a favorite among Tokyo residents because it's fast and goes great with beer. The most famous area for Yakitori in Tokyo is down Memory Lane or Piss Alley just outside the Shinjuku Train Station.

4. Chanko Nabe - The ultimate in gluttony for a normal civilian, but a necessary bulking strategy for up-and-coming sumo wresters in the Ryogoku neighborhood of Tokyo. There are many different versions of this massive stew, and they are all aggressive and delicious.

5. Conveyor Belt Sushi - As I mention in the video, there are a million different ways sushi is served in Tokyo. One of the most fun methods is by way of the conveyor belt sushi.

*Bonus* - Convenient stores such as FamilyMart, Lawson's, and 7 Eleven are a major part of Japanese Food culture in Tokyo. People are busy and need a quick meal, so I wanted to take you around real quick and show you what's inside!

Things to do in Miyazaki, Japan!

Hi! I’m Maggie, a military spouse and travel obsessed 31 year old. I’ve been to over 30 countries and have been living overseas for 6 years now. I hope you enjoy my channel! Below are some links to my favorite sites, please note that some of these are affiliate links and if you choose to purchase/book from them I will make a small commission. As always thanks for supporting my channel and my passion to create content!

My amazon favorites:

I always book hotels through booking.com:

Enjoying my content? Buy me a coffee!

I am especially excited about this weeks video because we are going to Miyazaki, Japan! We’ve actually been to Miyazaki before but never made it all the way out to the coast. I had plans to go earlier in the summer but the week we had planned to go we saw torrential downpours and decided to reschedule. This trip has been on my list of places to go because of the beautiful dog friendly Airbnb that we found. A friend actually stayed in the Airbnb last spring and also recommended it so I knew I wanted to go.

JUMP TO:
Intro: 0:43
Hyuga Beach: 2:49
Stairs of the Sea Mall: 4:21
Tjukurpa Coffee: 4:40
Umagase: 5:36
Hyuga Surf Camp Airbnb House Tour: 8:10
Udo Shrine: 9:40
Aoshima and Devils Washboard: 10:39

I wasn’t sure about the city the Airbnb was in (Hyuga, Miyazaki) but we ended up loving the small surf town vibes that it gave off. It wasn’t touristy at all and honestly felt like a local hang out. We let Olive swim on the beach in a huge tide pool and then when all the surfers left for the workweek we let her let loose on the beach and run to her hearts content. It wasn’t crowded at all, but I would say that is more likely due to the time of year. I’m sure during the height of summer Hyuga is a VERY popular place to be.

Hyuga was about a 4.5hr drive from Sasebo and we took the route through Oita on the way there. We stopped at a coffee shop AND a brewery and I definitely recommend both of them! There is something really great about finding these random places out in the middle of nowhere! It made the drive much more enjoyable to have fun stops along the way.

Hideji-Beer Brewery:

Once we got to the Airbnb we relaxed for the night. If you’re looking for a dog-friendly Airbnb near the beach in Miyazaki DEFINITELY check out the Hyuga Surf Camp.

Hyuga Surf Camp Location:

I’ll share pins of all the fun places we went in Hyuga (some were mentioned in this video, others were not):

Umagase and Hososhima Lighthouse:
Stairs of the Sea Mall:
Tjukurpa Coffee:
Kanegahama Beach:

Here are the places we went in Miyazaki City:

Udo Shrine:
Devils Washboard, Aoshima:
Coco Bowls:

I can’t recommend all of these places enough, we really enjoyed everywhere we went and had such a great time in Miyazaki! I hope this info helps if you’re planning a trip there anytime soon!

Please give this video a thumbs up if you liked it and share it with someone who might find it useful!
