Knin - city of the Croatian kings | Pointers Travel DMC | Croatia | Kroatien

Knin, the city of Croatian Kings. Knin is located at the crossroads of important roads between the interior and the sea and because of that, Knin is known as the Gates of Dalmatia. The name City of Croatian Kings reaches out to the time when Croatian king Zvonimir ruled the Croatian kingdom from his capital Knin.

Knin has been home to Croatians since the 7th century A.D. Past inhabitants of this area built their first fortified settlement on Spas hill. Even though Croatians arrived in these parts in the 7th century, it wasn't until the 9th century that they formed a Croatian duchy (kneževina) between the rivers Zrmanja and Cetina. This early feudal Croatian duchy was the first of its kind in the Slavic south. Ninia (now Knin) was declared as the capital of the duchy.

Many Croatian dukes and kings held lands in or around Knin as witnessed by numerous archaeological evidence from the medieval era. In the numerous churches built during that time, archaeologists found stone inscriptions with the names of dukes Trpimir and Mutimir and Kings Svetoslav and Držislav. In the Knin capital one can find the first ethnic and political mention of Croatia as a state: Dvx Chroatorvm (lat. Duke of Croatia).

During the reign of Petar Krešimir IV. Knin diocese was formed and its bishop bore the title of Croatian bishop (lat. eppiscopus chroatensis) with its seat in the church of Saint Mary near Knin Kastel. Croatian bishop held many lands and was very powerful and influential. He was king chancellor and the religious head of all Croatian Christians.

Knin's Golden Age was during the reign of king Dmitar Zvonimir (1074 - 1088). He declared Knin the capital of his kingdom and is the only Croatian king to be crowned by the Pope, that is his emissary, Gebizon.

From the 12th century, when Croatia entered into state union with Hungary, Knin lost its title of the royal city but remained an important administrative and military center where kings second in command, ban, had his seat.
Flash forward to the 20th century.
In August 1990, Serbian radicals and extremists rose in armed rebellion against the Republic of Croatia and created a temporary state with Knin as its capital. In the military operation Storm (Oluja) Croatian Army, under the command of the first Croatian president Franjo Tuđman liberated Knin on August 5th, 1995 and returns Knin to Croatia, dissolving the temporary state of Serbian Krajina.

The day on which Knin was liberated is celebrated as Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day and the Day of Croatian Defenders (Cro: Dan pobjede i Domovinske zahvalnosti i Dan hrvatskih branitelja) and the commemoration is held in Knin every year with the presence of the heads of government.

Things to do in this hidden town are numerous. From hiking the tallest mountain in Croatia to visiting one of the oldest fortresses of the Venetians. When in Knin make sure to visit the Waterfall Krčić and Šarena Lakes.

Knin is also the home of the largest Croatian church: Church of Our Lady of the Great Croatian Baptismal Vow (in Croatian - Crkva Gospe Velikog Hrvatskog Krsnog Zavjeta). Other than being the largest, this church is also one of the most beautiful, as evidenced by the European Property Award handed in 2016 to one of the architects of this religious masterpiece, Ante Vrban.

Knin fun facts:
- The source of Krka River is near Knin
- The highest Croatian mountain, Dinara is only 15 kilometers away from Knin.
- Knin was founded and developed as a fortification on Spas hill.
- 10th-century medieval fortress can be found west of Knin
- Knin fortress is located 345 meters above sea level and 100 meters above Knin.

Knin in 360° | Pointers Travel DMC / Croatia

Nemojte propustiti

kročiti na čuvenu Kninsku tvrđavu i istražiti okolno područje
posjetiti Zvonimirove dane, povijesni sajam u sklopu kojega se oživljava srednji vijek
vidjeti Burumska i Šarena jezera

Ervenik

Općina Ervenik imponira svojim prirodnim raznolikostima i krajobraznom ljepotom koje su toliko vrijedne da ih kao dio hrvatske i europske prirodne baštine štite Park prirode Velebit i Nacionalni park Krka. Ona spaja Liku i Dalmaciju, a njenim središtem teče rijeka Zrmanja.

Kijevo

Description:
Knin Fortress is one of the largest and oldest European fortresses.
The oldest part of the fortress, Kaštel Knin was built in the second half of the 9th century. Over the centuries, it was conquered, demolished and built by Hungarians, Turks, Venetians, French and Austrians.
The fortress is located in the southern part of the hill Spas and is located 100 meters above the town of Knin. It is 470 meters long and 110 meters wide at its widest part. The defensive walls that surround it on all sides in the length of almost 2 kilometers are in some places up to 20 meters high. It is located at 345 meters above sea level.
Knin Fortress can be divided into five parts: Gornji grad (Kaštel Knin), Srednji grad (Garišta), Donji grad, Bandjeru (Kaštel Lab) and Belveder station. Each of these parts of the fortress can also be considered an independent fortified city.

➡️????̌???????????????????????? ???????????? ????????????????
Sibenik’s history goes all the way back to the 11th century and many attractions showcase this proud heritage. Most of them were built during the Venetian rule in the period between 1412. and 1797.
Once you reach the center of the city, surrounded by those cobblestone alleys, you will become enamored with its picturesque charm. Walking in the maze of streets you will discover why Šibenik is a real Mediterranean jewel.
➡️????????. ???????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????
The Cathedral of St. James is the most valuable architectural monument built during the 15th and 16th centuries in Croatia. Because of its construction techniques and style characteristics, it is not only the biggest and the most valuable object of the architectural heritage in the town of Šibenik but it is also the unique monument of European sacral architecture.
➡️????̌???????????????????????? ????????????????????????????????????????
Sibenik is sometimes called the city of fortresses, which are a key symbol of the town and a sign of the efforts of the domestic people to defend their city through various historical periods.
Make sure to subscribe to our channel so you can get a notification when we release a video dedicated entirely to the stunning fortresses.
There are four fortresses in the town, and all of them were built for the purpose of defense against Turkish invasion.
➡️????????. ????????????????????????????'???? ????????????????????????????
There is nothing quite like entering a city by the sea - it's an experience that is simply breathtaking. Saint Anthony’s Channel connects the town to the Adriatic Sea. It is 4.4km long with a new promenade surrounded by Mediterranean vegetation and offers stunning panoramic views of the Šibenik archipelago. At the end of the promenade, there is a UNESCO masterpiece mentioned before, Fortress of St. Nicholas.
➡️????????????????????????????
Solaris is a big hotel resort known for its aqua park, the biggest one in Dalmatia, but the beaches are what really makes it stand out. If you're searching for the perfect vacation spot, look no further than these beaches. With gorgeous beaches and activities for all ages, but primarily children, it's an experience you won't soon forget!

Since its War of Independence in the late 1990s, Balkan Croatia has become one of Europe's top tourist destinations. Croatia has mediaeval cities and historic ruins like much of Europe, but its Plitvice Lakes, Adriatic coastlines, and beautiful islands make it stand out. Dubrovnik's mediaeval old town jutting into the water makes it Croatia's tourism darling. Split, where Roman emperor Diocletian constructed a little palace about 1700 years ago, is north along the shore. Zagreb's neoclassical buildings and Krka National Park hikes await you inland. Use this list of Croatia's top attractions to plan your vacation to this stunning European location.

Pula is full of attractions. The 1st-century Roman amphitheater is the city's main attraction. The Arena is the world's largest and best-preserved amphitheater.

6. Zadar.
Tourists will visit a three-thousand-year-old city on a scenic shoreline. On Croatia's northern Dalmatian Coast is Zadar. It is the perfect vacation spot because it has lots to do without the crowds. The city's Old Town is walkable. Roman ruins, mediaeval buildings, and antique churches are great sights in the historic district.

5. Rovinj.

Split attracts tourists with its beautiful scenery, restaurants, and nightlife. The bustling metropolis also connects several Adriatic islands.

3. Plitvice National Park.
The Plitvice National Park contains numerous spectacular lakes, waterfalls, and a thick forest, making it one of the most stunning natural wonders in Croatia and all of Europe. The 16 interconnected lakes that are separated into upper and lower clusters are the park's most remarkable features.

VODICE 2023 ???????? Drone Aerial 4K | Šibenik-Knin Croatia Hrvatska

Vodice (or Grad Vodice in Croatian, 2023) is a town at the Dalmatian Coast in the Adriatic Sea in Croatia. Vodice has a population of 9,000. The town was founded in Roman Times and known as the city of Arausa. Vodice was hundreds of years part of the Venetian Empire who established a trading post here at the coast (1412-1797). Some highlights of the town are the old centre, the city port and marina, the defensive walls and the church of St. Cross (1412), the Okit Hill with the chapel of Our Lady of Mount Carmel (1660).

Roadtrip durch KROATIEN | Die beeindruckende Festung von Knin | #vlog 9

#kroatien #landrover #reisen #travel #roadtrip #vlog #abenteuer #croatia #fortress #festung

BEST of SIBENIK, CROATIA + WINE TASTING at a Local Vineyard!

Find out more about our private tours throughout Croatia:

We discovered the incredible city of Sibenik on our recent trip to the coast. There's so much to explore both in the city center, and in the whole Sibenik region.

Sibenik is home to two UNESCO sites, which is quite rare to have two in one city. The Cathedral of St. James, as well as the St. Nicholas Fortress are both UNESCO heritage sites in Sibenik, and are worth visiting.

After spending a couple of days in the city, we went to visit a local winery, Baraka, where Filip walked us through a fantastic wine tasting, and treated us to the most wonderful platter of meat, cheese, nuts & more.

We loved Sibenik, it's definitely a less-discovered little gem on the Adriatic.
