Knaresborough - One of the Prettiest Towns in Yorkshire - North Yorkshire

Knaresborough has to be one of the prettiest towns in Yorkshire. The River Nidd Gorge carves its way through the town and beautiful historic buildings some 900 years old, teeter over the edge looking down at the river. We have visited many towns in Yorkshire in other videos but this has to be one of the prettiest towns in Yorkshire. It has more than just the historical aspects of a Castle and the iconic Knaresborough Viaduct, but riverside walks along the famous former Royal Forest of Knaresborough. The folklore tales of Mother Shipton and the petrifying well, to local hero Blind Jack. It is truly a fantastic place to spend a day, boating, walking and soaking up the atmosphere.
Join us for a lovely walk, some history and details about the local attractions in this pretty Yorkshire town.

12 Most Beautiful Towns in England to Visit

What are the most beautiful towns to visit in England? The United Kingdom is obsessed with beautiful surroundings and countryside. England is attempting to blaze the trail and lead the other parts of the Kingdom. Yes, many of the most beautiful towns in the world are in England. Just anyone will have a hard time selecting the most beautiful towns in England to visit. However, we will attempt to list 12 of these based on certain yardsticks that all or most of us can agree upon. Some of these towns are coastal, rural, or castle towns. What we’re sure of is that almost everyone will find one or two of these beautiful towns attractive enough to see something lovely there during the next vacation.
12. Burford, Oxfordshire
Our starting point is Burford, a town on the River Windrush in the West Oxfordshire district of Oxfordshire. Tucked in the Cotswold Hills, Burford is often called the 'gateway' to the Cotswolds, and for good reasons.
This town derives its name from the Old English words ‘burh’ which can mean a ‘fortified town,’ ‘a hilltown and ford,’ and ‘the crossing of a river.’ That connotative meaning draws some mental picture, not so? Burford has been listed among the most picturesque towns in England, with its medieval bridge and stone houses together with the attractive Tudor and Georgian frontages.
11. Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire
Tewkesbury, a medieval market town and civil parish is the next. The Gloucestershire northern town has a significant history in the Wars of the Roses. Located at the confluence of the River Severn and the River Avon, the town is on the border with Worcestershire.
This town with a character all of its own is one of the few places in the Cotswold with buildings of black and white half-timbered. It’s a town to visit by those who love spending time on riverbanks.
10. Painswick, Gloucestershire
We still have good places to visit in Gloucestershire. This time it’s the beautiful town of Painswick. Mainly constructed of locally quarried Cotswold stone, the small town is known for the local Rococo Garden.
This is a budget-friendly town where you can explore a lot during your visit. That’s why we consider it one of the most beautiful towns in England to visit. You have a variety of attractive things to see such that you may be tempted to extend your vacation. Painswick Beacon, for example, is an apt place to go cycling and hiking.
9. Bakewell, Derbyshire
This market town and civil parish is a lovely place in England to visit by anyone who appreciates its local Bakewell pudding. There is no shortage of bakeries dispensing this delicious pudding. However, you can feel some difference if you buy your Bakewell Pudding while visiting the Old Original Bakewell Pudding shop. You can delightfully sample this delicious dessert of pastry with jam and frangipane and top it with toasted almonds.
Its market which is held every Monday is also a must-try if you’re in the town so that you can have something like unique plants, giftware, homeware, fashion items to tools, and carpets to take home.
8. Sandwich, Kent
We come across a Kent location on this our list. The historic town of Sandwich which is also a civil parish in the Dover District of Kent lies on the River Stour. It’s a cool place to visit as one of the Cinque Ports. You can still see many of the original medieval buildings in Sandwich.
Visitors to Sandwich can enjoy nature reserves where two world-class golf courses, namely Royal St George's and Prince's are situated. There are educational and cultural events to witness in this town with Bird Observatory and Nature Reserves which play home to varieties of birds, flora and fauna.

Knaresborough is full of surprises, a warren of medieval streets and stone staircases that weave their way up and down the hill. The town centre is perched on the cliffs above the River Nidd and the imposing railway viaduct across the Nidd Gorge offers an amazing view to visitors as they arrive by train.
The market place in the centre of the town offers a great place to enjoy a cup of tea or something delicious and home baked. On a Wednesday stalls fill the market place offering tasty produce, wholefoods, plants and flowers, as well as pretty much anything else you can imagine, in the ever-popular Knaresborough Market.
At the base of the cliffs on which the town sits, you will find a delightful promenade that traps the sun in summer, with a coastal feel despite being more than 60 miles from the sea making a great place to enjoy an ice-cream or indulge in the tradition English pastime of ‘simply mucking about in boats’.

Places to see in ( Knaresborough - UK)

Places to see in ( Knaresborough - UK )

Knaresborough is an historic market town, spa town and civil parish in the Borough of Harrogate, North Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Knaresborough is located on the River Nidd, 4 miles east from the centre of Harrogate.

Knaresborough House on the High Street houses Knaresborough Town Council and the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs. Knaresborough hosts the annual Bed Race, organized by the Knaresborough Lions Club. It is held on the second Saturday of June. The event was first staged in 1966.

The railway age began in Knaresborough in 1848 with the opening of a railway station on Hay Park Lane; this was replaced with the current one three years later in 1851. The town had a railway line to Boroughbridge until it closed to passengers in 1950; it was dismantled in 1964. Historically in the West Riding of Yorkshire, Knaresborough became part of North Yorkshire in 1974.

Sights in the town include the remains of Knaresborough Castle, Mother Shipton's Cave, the House in the Rock, the railway viaduct over the river Nidd, and St Robert's Cave (dating from the Middle Ages). Knaresborough is the site of Ye Oldest Chymist Shoppe in England, opened in 1720, and the Courthouse Museum in the castle grounds. The principal areas of public open space are the Knaresborough Castle grounds, Horseshoe Field, the King George V Playing Field and Jacob Smith Park, a 30 acres (12 ha) parkland on the edge of the town, bequeathed to Knaresborough by Miss Winifred Jacob Smith in 2003.

Conyngham Hall is situated close to the town centre. It is currently used to accommodate businesses and as parkland. Until the 1980s there was a small zoo in the grounds. Near to the castle are Bebra Gardens, formerly the Moat Gardens, renamed after Knaresborough's twin town in Germany. The Commercial (formerly Borough Bailiff) public house, owned by the Samuel Smith Brewery, is the oldest pub in Knaresborough.

Knaresborough is served by Knaresborough railway station, on the Harrogate Line between Leeds and York. The town is four miles from junction 47 of the A1 (M) Motorway (Great North Road), and on the A59 which links York and Wallasey. It is further served by Transdev and Connexions who both run buses in the area that centre around Knaresborough bus station on the High Street. The closest airport is Leeds Bradford Airport with bus links from neighbouring Harrogate.

Knaresborough is mostly a commuter town however it serves as a local centre for the surrounding rural villages. The town has a small tourism industry and service sector. There is a small industrial estate on Manse Lane in the East of the town. Knaresborough has its own local weekly newspaper; the Knaresborough Post, although it borrows content heavily from neighbouring publications.

( Knaresborough - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Knaresborough . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Knaresborough - UK

WHAT PLACES WOULD YOU PUT ON A TOP 10 LIST IN BRITAIN? I was curious about what very successful travel vlogger Ryan Shirley said were his Top Ten Places to Visit in the UK. We have our own favourite places to visit and our wish lists of places to visit in Britain… but I wanted to watch Ryan’s video with Ian and record our reactions to seeing it for the first time. Passport And Visas Requirements To Enter The UK

Please note: Following the recent referendum vote for the UK to leave the European Union (EU), there are currently no changes in the way people travel to Britain. The following guidelines still apply:

If you're planning an adventure to the UK, depending on your nationality and your reason for visiting, you may need to organise a visa.

If you're an American, Canadian or Australian tourist, you'll be able to travel visa-free throughout the UK, providing you have a valid passport and your reason for visiting meets the immigration rules (link is external).

Citizens from some South American and Caribbean countries as well as Japan are also able to travel visa-free around the UK.

European Union citizens, non-EU member states of the EEA (Norway, Liechtenstein and Iceland), Switzerland, and members of the Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) do not need a visa to enter the UK.

North Yorkshire | The Most Picturesque Places To Visit

Welcome to Yorkshire, in this video we are visiting 2 of the most important and famous abbeys in England as well as the gorgeous town of Knaresborough, all located within North Yorkshire.

Places visited in the video:
- Whitby Abbey
- Whitby
- Rievaulx Abbey
- Knaresborough

These are 4 places I would recommend to you when visiting North Yorkshire as they are some of the most picturesque and breathtaking locations we've seen! Whitby Abbey is a famous abbey located next to the town of Whitby, it has had a very long and interesting history, and the coastal town of Whitby is full of some of its own histories including the fact that Bram Stoker based elements of his novel Dracula from the Abbey itself and he was also staying in this town at the time or writing it!

Rievaulx Abbey is just as grand, if not even grander than Whitby Abbey with many more of its won histories to learn about! and lots of remains give you a real idea of how it would have looked in its prime!

The Town of Knaresborough is so iconic with its victorian viaduct towering over the River Nidd flowing through the centre of this gorgeous town. There are many things to do here including hiring a boat on the River Nidd, exploring the castle and gardens in the town and more... also, look out for the painted windows here!
