35+ things to do in Kyushu, Japan!
Kyushu is Japan's third largest island, located southwest of the main island Honshu and is made up of seven prefectures: Fukuoka, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita, Kumamoto, Miyazaki and Kagoshima.
It's also one of my favourite regions in Japan and such an underrated and undiscovered region.
Here are some of my recommendations for first-time visitors! It's best to stay 2-3 days in each prefecture so you can take your time to explore!
I've included everything from nature spots, activities/experiences, Japanese food, to things to do at night in the list!
I had so much fun filming and exploring Kyushu - it really had everything I wanted all in one region!
Hot springs for when you want to relax, nature for when you want to escape the city, activities for all ages, and also delicious fresh food!

Kyushu Island has brought a lot to the nation’s dining table. After all, it is here that ramen — Japan’s globally celebrated comfort food — was born. Kokura, Kyushu's most Northern City.
Kokura: is a former arsenal town, that has its specialties in producing iron and steel, and other metal machinery. Moji contains the city’s major port facilities; it is a coal-shipping and fishing port and has oil-storage facilities, a prefecture that is vital to the entire Kyushu island.
Kitakyushu: or Kita-Kyushu City, a northern Fukuoka ken (prefecture), northern Kyushu, Japan. The city was established back in 1963 by the amalgamation of the cities of Wakamatsu, Yahata (Yawata), Tobata, Kokura, and Moji, which later became the five wards of a new city (Yahata was later divided into Yahatahigashi and Yahatanishi wards).
Kitakyūshū is one of Japan’s leading manufacturing centers and heavy industry is most prominent. The industrial nucleus, Yahata, specializes in iron and steel, various heavy chemicals, cement, and glass.
Wakamatsu city produces various metals, machinery, ships, and chemicals and is a major coal port for northern Kyushu.
Kokura Castle: the only castle left standing in Fukuoka Prefecture, was first built in 1602 by Hosokawa Tadaoki and completed around six years later. The original Kokura Castle was destroyed by a fire in 1837, with parts of it rebuilt in 1839.

Uomachi Gintengai: Back in 1952, Uomachi Gintengai became the first arcade shopping district in the country, lined up along a 400-meter street that makes its way as far as Tanga Market.

Kitakyushu Japan - kokura-castle | mojiko retro Walking Tour 2022????
This time we will introduce Moji and Kokura in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture.
Mojiko developed as a hub of international trade from the Meiji Period to the Showa Period and was one of the Three Great Ports of Japan along with Yokohama and Kobe. The brick buildings built in those days still remain, and the area with its retro atmosphere has become a popular tourist destination known as Mojiko Retro.
Kokura Castle was built in 1602 by Hosokawa Tadaoki. The castle tower burnt down in 1837, but was reconstructed in 1959 thanks to the hope of the citizens. Exhibitory inside the castle tower was renovated and the reopened in March 2019. Also, there is a stunning Japanese Garden next to the castle. Here, you can get exposed to Japanese culture such as Japanese manners and a Japanese tea ceremony.
Approximately 20 minute-walk from JR Kokura Station.
Maetel and Tetsuro from Galaxy Express 999 and Harlock from Space Pirate Captain Harlock are installed at the Shinkansen exit of JR Kokura Station.
