Kidderminster is a large town and civil parish in the Wyre Forest district of Worcestershire, England. Kidderminster is located approximately 17 miles south-west of Birmingham city centre and approximately 15 miles north of Worcester city centre.
A parliamentary report of 1777 listed Kidderminster Borough as having a parish workhouse accommodating up to 70 inmates. Under the so-called Gilbert's Act of 1782 Kidderminster Union was established for the purpose of relieving the indigent poor. Kidderminster has two Commissioners' churches. The first was St. George's church, on Radford Avenue. The second church was St. John's Church, on the Bewdley Road.
The River Stour and the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal both flow through Kidderminster town centre. Kidderminster Town is a civil parish within Wyre Forest District, with Kidderminister Town Council created to take on the duties of a parish council following a referendum in May 2015.
Two railway stations in the town share the same approach road and are located less than fifty metres apart. The main Network Rail station operated by London Midland is Kidderminster, from where trains run to Birmingham, Worcester and London. The other station, Kidderminster Town, is the terminus of the preserved Heritage Railway line, Severn Valley Railway from where trains run to Bridgnorth.

What are the poorest places in the UK? The last thing that’ll come to mind when the UK is mentioned is poverty. It’s not among the countries you’ll associate poverty with. This should be clearly noted as we begin. Yet, not every part of Great Britain has the affluence of London, Edinburgh, or Glasgow. Some places in the UK are poor. We’re here to show you the 10 poorest places in the UK.
These places are the same neighborhood with the biggest shortages of basic social infrastructure and facilities such as playgrounds, parks, pubs, shops, and sports centers. You’ll find some of them among the areas left behind in England, Wales, and Scotland. Authorities have to do something about these 10 poorest places in the UK.
10. Newport, Wales
We’re starting in Wales. One of the poorest places in the UK is a city and county borough in Gwent in Wales. We are referring to Newport which is situated on the River Usk close to the river’s confluence with the Severn Estuary. It is 19 kilometers northeast of Cardiff. Newport’s population of 145,700 at the 2011 census notwithstanding, all is not going on fine with the city. It can’t get past its nagging poverty.
Imagine this: of Newport’s 95 neighborhoods in Newport, 23 currently rank among the most deprived in Wales. Do the math, and you will find out that this is about 24 percent of the authority. That’s the biggest percentage of deprivation in the country.

This is Greenock, a town and administrative center in the Inverclyde council area. The town with a population of 44,248 is located in the west-central Lowlands of Scotland.
As proof of how gripping the poverty state of this town is, its population reduced by almost 3,000 within 10 years. In a report that shows how poor some parts of the nations are, Greenock tops the list. In the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation for 2020, Greenock has the highest number of deprived areas in Scotland.
8. Halton, England
England too has some of the poorest places in the UK and the first of these on this list is the eighth poorest place in the UK, Halton. The district and unitary authority that registers its name on this list has a borough status in Cheshire.
When you consider its ranking as one of the worst areas in England and Wales by a global children's charity that also ranks Halton as one of the worst areas in England and Wales to be a girl, you will understand why Halton slipped into the rank of the 20 most deprived areas in England. Other indices like life expectancy, children poverty which is 25 percent, health inequality, and unemployment rates are not in a positive light for this district.
7. Merthyr Tydfil, Wales
We’re back in Wales to find Merthyr Tydfil, the main town in Merthyr Tydfil County Borough, as the seventh of the 10 poorest places in the UK. The town administered by Merthyr Tydfil County Borough Council is about 37 kilometers north of Cardiff. Often called Merthyr, the town believed to be named after Tydfil, daughter of King Brychan of Brycheiniog, has a population of 43,820.
This town seems to be hitting above its weight as the go-to place for those looking for gloomy job news. As of March 2018, the unemployment rate was 5.7 percent. Even though it's an iron producer, poor transportation service is the bane of this town that makes it so poor.
6. South Elmsall, England
South Elmsall is a small town and a civil parish lying to the east of Hemsworth with a population of 6,519. Assessing the standard of living and quality of life in the UK as a whole, we can describe certain towns in the United Kingdom as miserable. Granted, those towns are not inherently terrible. Yet, the situation there is not acceptable in the light of what we see in other villages, towns, and cities, in the UK. In this video, we shall be discussing the 10 most miserable towns in the UK.
10. Cumbernauld, Scotland
We will start our discussion with a town in Scotland. To give you a hint; this is the first of the three Scottish towns on this list of the 10 most miserable towns in the UK. We are talking about Cumbernauld, a large town in North Lanarkshire with an area of 8.3 square miles or 21.5 square kilometers. Under normal circumstances, it should be a city because of its city-like huge population of 51,000.
It has not shed that horrible description as “Scotland’s most dismal town.” Truly speaking, this town is lacking in anything of the good things you would find in Glasgow or Edinburgh. The center of Cumbernauld has been described as the “Kabul of the North.” This says it all. Whatever you know about Kabul has its miniature in this miserable town.
9. Grimsby, England
The first of the 5 cities in England on this list is Grimsby. Maybe we should stop calling it Great Grimsby. If it were great indeed, this port town and the North East Lincolnshire administrative center on the south bank of the Humber Estuary would have all amenities that would make it rank among the best. But the comments from its residents and one-time visitors indicated that life is miserable in this place that has been voted several times as one of the worst places to live in England.
Therefore, the town of around 100,000 residents is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. Its entire area of 88 square miles (or 230 square kilometers) has been ranked the 18th worst place to live a while ago.
8. Airdrie, Scotland
Back in Scotland; we are now examining Airdrie, a town in North Lanarkshire. It also is one of the most miserable towns in the UK. The town on a plateau with an elevation of 400 feet or 130 meters above sea level is about 12 miles (or 19 kilometers) east of Glasgow city center. During its industrial heyday in the 19th century, coal mining and cotton milling were the major industries, no one could then think of this former industrial town as miserable.
However, the exit of those industries has made life there miserable to extent of being branded the most dismal town in the UK. The PR manager for the town admits it deserves its grim reputation as the worst in Scotland. The town is boring and the buildings are ugly.

10. Harrow
We want to start with Harrow, a large town in Greater London which is the main settlement of the London Borough of Harrow. It lies about 9.5 miles northwest of Charing Cross and about 5.4 miles south of Watford.
In 2012, a popular ranking by the Happy at Home Survey, Harrow was included among the gloomiest places to live. Ever since then, it has remained one of the most miserable places to live in England. Rather than improving, the town’s newspaper, The Harrow Times, recently listed it among the most depressing places to live in England. Another survey conducted among its residents places it on the bottom of the worst places to live. Similarly, the Office for National Statistics ranked it as the fourth of the most miserable places to live in the UK, considering how tough it is to survive in Harrow on an annual income of under £60,000.
9. Doncaster
The next one of the most miserable places to live in England is Doncaster, a large town in South Yorkshire. The minster town named after the River Don flowing through it is the principal settlement of the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster. The market town is also the second-largest in South Yorkshire.
People who live in Doncaster are the ones who voted it to the rank of top ten worst places to live in the UK for consecutive years. In a survey of the towns in South Yorkshire, Doncaster was ranked as the most dangerous. Among the 110 cities, towns, and villages in the area, Doncaster is among the top 20 most dangerous. In a recent year, it was voted as the overall second worst place in Britain. The overall crime rate in 2020 was 128 crimes per 1,000 people. It’s indeed one of the most depressing places to live in England and the UK.
8. Ipswich
Ipswich, a large port town and borough in Suffolk, is another one of the 10 most miserable places to live in England. Ipswich in East Anglia is a county town located 10 miles from the mouth of the River Orwell and the North Sea. It is also 67 miles away from London northeast, 45 miles southeast of Cambridge, 40 miles south of Norwich.
The crime rate in Ipswich is as bad as 100 crimes to 1000 people. Moving around the central parts of the town, where crime often occurs, you'd see that it is one of the most depressing places to live in England. Even though it has one of the fastest-growing economies in the UK thanks to the reinvention in its popular waterfront region and the introduction of the University of Suffolk, it remains relatively the most deprived area in Suffolk.
7. Burnley
Burnley, a town in Lancashire, 21 miles north of Manchester and 20 miles east of Preston, is another one of the most miserable places to live in England. The town at the confluence of the River Brun and River Calder is known for the manufacturing and aerospace industries. However, that hasn’t taken it out of the list of the most depressing towns in England.
As of 2019, over 8,829 children in Burnley were regarded as living in poverty, almost half within the town, after housing costs. Figures from Burnley are among the highest in the Northwest.

What are the most dangerous cities to live in the United Kingdom? Ranking the United Kingdom as the 116th most dangerous country is not bad at all. That means the country is safer than, at least, 115 others in the world. Between 2020 and 2021 alone, it experienced 600 homicides as just one of the crimes reported that year. A total of 6.1 crimes were reported during that year. Out of these, 2 million were crimes against another person. If there were 67 million people in the UK during that year, the crime rate would be a whole 2,985 crimes per 100,000 people. However, it’s not everywhere in the UK that is dangerous. In this video, we will discuss those currently rated as the 5 most dangerous cities in the United Kingdom.
5. Nottingham
This city with links to the Robin Hood legend and which is famous for lacemaking and the tobacco industry is incidentally here. If we go by its population of 337,100, Nottingham that’s playing host to the headquarters of a number of major international businesses including Boots, E. On Energy, Pedigree Petfoods, and Gala Bingo, is the 14th largest city in the UK.
It’s the most dangerous major city in Nottinghamshire. Out of the 236 cities, towns, and villages in Nottinghamshire, it’s among the 20 most dangerous overall. In 2021, the overall crime rate in Nottingham was 114 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 49 percent higher than the crime rate in Nottinghamshire with a rate of 76 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Nottingham with 14,210 offenses during 2021, producing a crime rate of 45 per 1,000.
In 2020, a total of 34,228 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 108 per 1,000. In 2019, 42,113 were committed with a rate of 133. The year 2018 witnessed 41,970 crimes with a rate of 133. In 2017, the crime rate was 119 with 37,753 crimes. And in 2106, the total crime was 30,097 with a rate of 95 crimes per 1,000 people.
In December 2021, Nottingham was the most dangerous city for bicycle theft, with 52 crimes reported. That month was also a bad month for the city’s residents as it was the most dangerous area in Nottinghamshire for burglary while 110 of these crimes were committed. The city recorded 321 criminal damages and arsons still during December 2021.
4. Birmingham
We just have to agree with the inclusion of Birmingham on this list. This is a city with a population of about 1.1 million with an urban area having just over 2.6 million residents and a metropolitan area with a population of 3.5 million. Birmingham, despite having a coveted reputation as the first manufacturing city in the world some 200 to 150 years ago, is currently one of the most dangerous cities in the UK.
As the most dangerous major city in the West Midlands, Birmingham is among the 10 most dangerous overall out of the 44 cities, towns, and villages in the West Midlands. In 2021, the overall crime rate in this city was 137 crimes per 1,000 people. That was 17 percent higher than the West Midlands’ overall crime rate of 118 per 1,000 residents. Violence and sexual offenses are the most common crimes in Birmingham during 2021 when some 78,062 of these crimes were committed. That was a rate of 67 per 1,000 and was 38 percent higher than the 2020's figure.
Consider also the historical crime rate for Birmingham, not just what it had in 2021, and form your opinion. In 2020, a total of 123,271 crimes were committed with a crime rate of 106 per 1,000. In 2019, 120,832 were committed with a rate of 104 per 1,000 residents. The city in 2018 witnessed 114,605 crimes with a rate of 99. In 2017, the crime rate was 89 while 103,319 crimes took place. And in 2106, the total crime was 90,930 while at the rate of 78 crimes per 1,000 people.

Bewdley is a small riverside town and civil parish in the Wyre Forest District of Worcestershire, England, along the Severn Valley a few miles to the west of Kidderminster and 22 miles south west of Birmingham. Bewdley lies on the River Severn, at the gateway of the Wyre Forest national nature reserve.
Bewdley is a popular tourist destination and is well known for its attractive riverside, music scene, famous Bewdley Bridge designed by Thomas Telford, range of independent shops and high standard of educational provision at secondary school level. Bewdley is home to the Severn Valley Railway and the West Midlands Safari Park, both of which are sign posted on all motorways running through the Midlands.
The main part of Bewdley town is situated on the western bank of the River Severn, including the main street — Load Street — whose name derives from lode, an old word for ferry. Load Street is notable for its width: this is because it once also served as the town's market place. Most of Bewdley's shops and amenities are situated along Load Street, at the top of which lies St Anne's Church, built between 1745 and 1748 by Doctor Thomas Woodward of Chipping Campden.
On the other side of the church, Welch Gate (so called because it once contained a tollgate on the road towards Wales) climbs steeply up to the west, while a continuation of the B4194 leads northwest towards the Wyre Forest. To the northeast of the town is the wooded hilltop of Wassel Wood in Trimpley, the southern terminus of Shatterford Hill. In the area between Stourport and Bewdley there are several large country houses, among which Witley Court, Astley Hall and Pool House are particularly significant.
The River Severn often used to burst its banks in winter, flooding many houses and commercial premises in Bewdley. Bewdley Bridge over the Severn was built in 1798 by Thomas Telford. It was erected to replace the 1483 medieval bridge which was swept away in the floods of 1795. The Tenbury and Bewdley Railway branched off Severn Valley Railway at Bewdley, and ran through the Wyre Forest to Tenbury Wells. It crossed the river at Dowles, a little to the north of Bewdley. The bridge itself no longer exists, although its imposing brick and stone pillars remain.
The Bewdley Festival, featuring a variety of artistic performances, is held in the town each October, and Bewdley also hosts one of the largest inland river regattas in the country. The successful Bewdley Beer Festival is held each August Bank Holiday weekend. Bewdley also has a carnival which takes place every June. Bewdley has a distinguished music scene, and is particularly well known for its intimate country music venues and its many local festivals including Hop Fest, Bewdley music festival, Arley festival and Bewdley Live.
The West Midland Safari Park lies just out of the town, on the A456 towards Kidderminster. Bewdley was, until an office move in 2014 to Kidderminster, the headquarters of the Severn Valley Railway, a heritage railway running the 16 miles between Kidderminster and Bridgnorth. Bewdley remains the principal intermediate station on the line. The Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Gardens (usually abbreviated to simply Jubilee Gardens) are tucked away between the rear of Bewdley Museum and the River Severn.
Bewdley is on the southeastern edge the Wyre Forest, and there are many footpaths and cycle routes through the unspoilt woodlands. There is a visitor centre situated just outside Bewdley at Callow Hill on the road to Cleobury Mortimer, where many waymarked trails through the forest start from. The Bewdley museum (admission free), housed in the Guildhall (alongside the Tourist Information Centre) explores the history of the town. Just outside Bewdley is Beau Castle, a Victorian mock-Gothic house, built in 1877. It was developed by the industrialist and former Mayor of Birmingham and Bewdley, George Baker. Beau Castle was designed by John Ruskin and Richard Doubleday with stained-glass windows by Edward Burne-Jones.

Kidderminster Walk: Town Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Worcestershire, around 17 miles southwest of Birmingham, is the town of Kidderminster.
Built around the River Stour, which in turn is a tributary of the River Severn, Kidderminster is situated at the junction of several main roads to Birmingham, Dudley, Worcester and other key towns in the west midlands region.
From as early as the 16th century, Kidderminster was a cloth-producing town. Various other industries were adopted in the town, perhaps the most significant being carpet making from the early 18th century. This became the staple trade of the town. In the late 18th century the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal opened, which helped the industry to grow. Kidderminster Railway Station opened in 1854 by the Oxford, Worcester and Wolverhampton Railway.
Kidderminster is the birthplace of the modern postal system. Sir Rowland Hill, who was born here, is credited with inventing the postage stamp - the very first of which being the Penny Black in 1840. A statue of Hill is located just outside the town hall on Vicar Street.
The other statue we see in the video is of Richard Baxter. This is situated just outside St Mary and All Saints' Church (around the end) where he served as a minister between 1641 and 1661, with a temporary break during the Civil War. He is remembered mainly for the transformation his pastoral ministry effected on Kidderminster.

Worcester Walk: City Centre【4K】
Located in the county of Worcestershire, and around 25 miles southwest of Birmingham, is the city of Worcester.
The first recorded reference to Worcester comes from the 7th century AD where it is referred to as 'Weorgoran ceaster'. 'Weorgoran' is Old English for 'people of the winding river', presumably in reference to the River Severn which runs through the city, and 'ceaster' refers to a fort or settlement, implying an earlier Roman occupation of the area.
On the bank of the River Severn is perhaps the most famous landmark of the city - Worcester Cathedral. Built in the 11th century (with additions up until 1504), it is the resting place of King John, who died in 1216.
During the Middle Ages Worcester became a producer of cloth. Industry in Worcester would later include engineering, glove-making and porcelain. Royal Worcester was established in 1751, and is one of the oldest English porcelain brands still in existence today.
In 1815 the Worcester and Birmingham Canal opened, opening up new trade routes. Between the late 18th and early 19th century Worcester was a major centre for glove-making, employing over 30,000 glovers at its peak. However in 1826, import duties on foreign gloves were removed, leading to a decline in the glove industry in Worcester. One company that did survive this setback was Dents, established in Worcester in 1777 by John Dent. The company produces luxury leather products, with some notable royal customers that include Queen Victoria, George VI and Elizabeth II.
Another brand with strong associations to the city is Lea & Perrins. In 1837 local chemists John Wheeley Lea and William Henry Perrins concocted a new condiment which, after 18 months, they found had matured into a tasty sauce that they decided to put on sale. Two years later the sauce had been introduced to the United States, and to this day it is a worldwide brand. How the Americans fare with pronouncing 'Worcestershire sauce' is another question...
The walk starts on the bank of the River Severn before heading up and around the grounds of Worcester Cathedral. We then head out onto the High Street where we see a statue of Edward Elgar. Born in the village of Broadheath just outside Worcester in 1857, Elgar was one of the world's leading composers in the Romantic era.
We then proceed toward's Worcester's oldest, and arguably prettiest, street - Friar Street. Here we see a number of old timber-framed buildings, including Tudor House. Built in the 16th century, it is a free-to-visit museum. Heading back to the High Street we pass by Worcester Guildhall. Completed in 1723, its architect, Thomas White, was a student of Christopher Wren (of St Paul's Cathedral fame).
Worcestershire County Cricket Club play their home games at New Road, just west of the River Severn. The city is also represented in rugby union by Worcester Warriors.

Heard this week that the the old Woolworths and Littlewoods stores are going to be demolished. I guess there are no takers for these large retail buildings. Will looks really strange when they have gone.
So many empty shops in Worcester Street... really quite sad.
