COLDEST PLACE on Earth (-71°C, -96°F) Why people live here? | Oymyakon, Russia

I spent several days with the locals of a Russian village Oymyakon. Oymyakon is Russia's and World's coldest inhabited place, and I thought that the only thing people do there is survive and suffer from the Cold. I was very wrong. Let's see what I found out from the locals

-71.2°C PLANET COLDEST ROAD TO COLDEST VILLAGE | OYMYAKON | SIBERIA | RUSSIA |POLE OF COLD |TRAVEL

ON OUR WAY TO THE COLDEST VILLAGE ON EARTH, OYMYAKON.

THE DISTANCE BETWEEN YAKUTSK AND OYMYAKON IS AROUND 1600 KILOMETERS OR ABOUT 33 HOURS OF DRIVING.

We travel about 10 hours to Khandyga from Yakutsk, crossing the central part of Yakutia and the Lena River, which flows directly into the Aldan River. The only way to get there in the winter is via the frozen Lena River, and success is dependent on the thickness of the ice on the Lena River.

We are using the UAZ car made from iron and is an off-road military light utility vehicle, it was used by Soviet and other Warsaw Pact armed forces, standard military versions included seating for seven personnel.

In Siberian, cars have to be left running, sometimes overnight, so the mechanics don’t freeze up. If did not keep cars running outside then they had to keep the car in a heated garage to avoid the car breaking down. If the vehicle is not left running, all liquids inside thicken, the rubber parts become brittle and fall apart, and freezes within minutes, some left their engine running from winter till spring.

Road trip 2021: Magadan – Yakutsk – Moscow. How to survive at the Oymyakon Pole of Cold

How did we get the idea for a road trip from Magadan to Yakutsk to Moscow?
(Chinese and Spanish subs are available)

The route is over 12,000 km (7,500 miles) long:
Magadan – Susuman – Ust – Nera – Oymyakon – Tomtor – Khandyga – Yakutsk – Neryungri – Chita – Ulan-Ude – Irkutsk – Tayshet – Krasnoyarsk – Kemerovo – Novosibirsk – Omsk – Tyumen – Yekaterinburg – Kungur – Naberezhnye Chelny – Nizhny Novgorod – Moscow

It was actually really simple. Thanks to a certain nasty virus, the entire world was shut down. Pretty boring, right? I mean, you can’t really fly anywhere. So we had to come up with something else to do. We dug around in the archives and asked other travelers about interesting places to go in Russia in the winter. They had a bunch of different suggestions, one of which was Oymyakon.

I agreed pretty much right away. I figured we could go there during the holiday break, soak in the local atmosphere, and see what -50°C (-58°F) really feels like. But instead of “zip over to the pole of cold, freeze our butts off, and then go back,” we found ourselves in a magical world of white expanses, endless roads, and constant motion. We were all just enchanted and hypnotized by it. And we froze our butts off too, of course :)

But when we got to Yakutsk, I realized that we couldn’t just stop there. So we traded in our horses and buggies and kept going until we got to Moscow. But that wasn’t so much for tourism or curiosity as for work — we had to meet with partners and clients from all over the country.

Russia’s Road Of Bones That Eats Men Alive???????? || Mystery of the World's Coldest Road || Wild Siberia????

IMPORTANT- TO REACH OMYAKON, THERE'S A ROAD FROM KYUBEME, WHICH IS PORTRAYED WRONG ON GOOGLE MAPS!

The nickname “the road of bones” speaks of the painful events associated with the construction of the highway. The road was constructed from the 1930s to the 1950s. Political prisoners of the Stalin regime of the Soviet Union were forced to build the road using hand tools.

This vlog features my Yakutsk To Omyakon Hitchhiking Trip, which happens to be the coldest city in the world, Yakutsk, -64.4°c to the World's Coldest Inhabited Place, Omyakon -71°C.

In this video, I hitchiked from Khandyga to Ust Nera. Finally begins the extreme adventurous journey to reach the coldest place of the world. An Indian's experience of driving and hitchhiking in the Road of Bones/ Kolyma Highway.

On my Journey to the Kolyma Highway, I also met @Nomad Shubham

HOW FAR EAST CAN YOU GET TO BY HITCHHIKING | 2032KM From Yakutsk to Magadan (Road of Bones)

I was always wondering what is the easternmost city you can get to by road on the Eurasian continent, and it turns out to be Magadan. I took my backpack and left my apartment in Yakutsk to see what is at the end of this road.
Pierre wasn't here for this trip because he had to work, but he did some other cool stuff.

Cold Winter Weather Travel to Oymyakon, Russia's Siberia. 103's Sakham Sire song

OYMYAKON TOURISM. ... This winter travel was arranged for friends of mine in Jan 2010. Slideshow with photographs of cold winter weather in Oymyakon, Siberia / Russia.

The lowest temperature we registered during the journey was -57.1C in the early morning. We were said there were -60 degrees Celcius at night, but we, frankly, overslept it.

In the video you'll see the following settlements: Cherkekh (outdoor museum), Khandyga (w/ guesthouse and church), Teplyj Klyuch (right before mountains), Kyubyume (gas station in the night), Tomtor (horse breeding farm, store, sports house, Chyskhaan Ice Tunnel, etc) and Oymyakon (you'll identify it quickly).

Unfortunately, the soundtrack is 6 min only, and the text says about groing to the south, but we went to the east in the deep north :)

What we saw on the way back from Oymyakon, see in the related video The World's Coldest Road. Kolyma Highway in Siberia, Russia

Photographs are mine.

The song Sakham Sire (My Yakutia) is performed by the Yakutsk-based rock band 103 in the Sakha language.

Frozen LENA PILLARS LENA RIVER in Sakha, Russia | Far Eastern Siberia | Travel Blog by S.Sulianah

Lena Pillars and River was one of the places that was breathtaking to go to when you are in Yakutsk. I traveled in a group package with 3 other gentlemen from Italy, Taiwan and Philippines around 23 Feb 2017. Our tour guide and driver are from Yakutsk, Russia. They will drive you to go to Lena Pillars which was one of the best experiences I have ever had for my travel adventures.

Be prepared when you go in winter. It is not a normal cold weather like in NYC or London during winter. Here is FROZEN COLD! The temperature was about -50 to -20 Degree Celsius. And when there is wind, it is 4x or maybe 6x more cold for me. I love it because that was the reason I decided to go to Yakutsk, the coldest city in the world. Not surprising too, my groupmates and I were looking forward that it will go to -72 Degree Celsius which was the historical record there.

Gloves have to be the type like mittens, not with fingers so that your hand could warm itself. And shoes and socks too are different. The tour guide will bring you to a market where they have all these on the first day you are there. Buy those gears at the market in Yakutsk instead. Not expensive. A pair of suitable socks for the weather is about USD 3. By the way, you cannot find those gear in tropical country like mine or even in cities like London or NYC. I had my North Face boots but I had to use the one they provided which is made of animal skin. These made a lot of difference because if you don't make yourself warm, definitely you will not be able to enjoy the stunning view and experiences comfortably.

Videos were taken at Lena River and Pillars which are located in the far eastern Siberia,Russia. Flight was from Singapore to Moscow, about 8 hours. Then, I rest for about 8 hours at the airport hotel before taking a 5 hours flight to Yakutsk. The trip was actually comfortable and considered a direct trip. Read more on the trip in my website
