The 2021 National Budget has now been passed by Parliament.

As the PNG Treasury's Budget Strategy Paper suggests, this budget will play a critical role in returning PNG's economy to positive growth in 2021 and managing larger government deficit and debt.

Our participants:

Petroleum Minister Jimmy Maladina's visit to Papua LNG Project sites

On Monday, January 29, 2024, Petroleum Minister, Hon. Jimmy Maladina, embarked on a tour of the pivotal sites related to the Papua LNG Project in the Gulf region. This journey was not undertaken alone; accompanying him was the dedicated Kerema MP and Petroleum Vice-Minister, Hon. Thomas Opa. Their collaborative visit aimed to closely connect with the communities within the project's footprint areas.

Their itinerary led them through the heart of the region, including stops at the vibrant Iokea Village along the scenic Gulf coast, Kerema Town, the strategic Wabo Station, and the welcoming Poroi Village. Each location offered unique insights and perspectives, enriching their understanding of the project's multifaceted impact.

Central to this visit was the valuable dialogue with local residents. Minister Maladina and MP Opa delved into discussions, seeking to understand the community's views and concerns regarding the Papua LNG Project. These interactions were more than informational; they were an exchange of hopes and aspirations, reflecting the community's pulse.

This video captures the essence of Minister Maladina's visit, showcasing his address to the people of Iokea, Wabo, and Poroi.

A 'bush pastor' from Kakoro, Gulf, Papua New Guinea

I meet Lutheran Pastor Timothy Une after service on Sunday, April 30, 2023, at Marimari Lutheran Church at Gordon, Port Moresby.

He serves at remote Kakoro, Gulf, along the WWII Bulldog Trail linking Morobe.

There is no communication there with the outside world. To make a phone call, they have to climb for a day up high mountains to get a signal.

To get to Port Moresby, he has to take a two-day dinghy ride down the Lakekamu River to Malalaua, Gulf, and then get on a PMV and travel the Hiritano Highway to Port Moresby.

Pr Timothy, from Finschhafen in Morobe, has been serving the people of Kakoro for the last 10 years.

It’s a hard job, however, he loves it.

He tells his story - in Tok Pisin - this video:
