Kapuskasing Inn Demolition (No Audio)

The Kapuskasing Inn was built by Spruce Falls Company Ltd. in 1928 in the Neo-Tudor Style. The building was an iconic landmark in the town for almost 80 years - a place where many residents celebrated weddings, graduation parties, and other milestones. Its most famous guests were Prince Phillip and (then) Princess Elizabeth, who visited in 1951. A portrait with their signatures used to be displayed in the lobby of the Inn.

Over the years, the ownership changed several times, and eventually the building reached a state of limbo and disrepair. In the early hours of May 22nd, 2007, the building caught fire and was gutted in a matter of hours. Minors were said to have set the fire, but no charges were laid, because they were below the age of criminal responsibility at the time.

For over a year, the building sat in limbo once more, until it was determined that the Inn was no longer structurally sound and it was slated for demolition.

Demolition began earlier this week, and this video was taken with the progress about half complete.

Snowmobile Kapuskasing-Hearst- Cochrane Polar Bears, Antique Sled Village

SnowTrails TV 2007 visit Ontario's Wilderness Region riding Kapuskasing to Hearst and visiting Cochrane's Polar Bears and Antique Sled Museum.

A Quick Visit to Cochrane, Ontario in October

This is a short video I made about my visit to Cochrane in Northern Ontario.

Cochrane is a lovely, very small town that's located about 7.5 hours north of Toronto. There isn't much to do in Cochrane, though it's a small trucking hub for drivers heading west or south into either Manitoba or Southern Ontario.

The point of our visit was to check out the famous Cochrane Polar Bear Habitat. After the habitat we spent some time walking around the town and checking out the downtown area.

Most people visiting Cochrane are stopping for fuel, food, or leaving their vehicles behind to visit Moosonee on the Polar Bear Express train. There are also some great options for hunting, snowmobiling, dog-sledding, off-road riding, and exploring this part of Northern Ontario.

Believe it or not, Cochrane is also the birthplace of Tim Horton. There are plenty of other things to do in Cochrane, Ontario if you're planning a visit.

The Kincardine Lighthouse and Marine Museum are popular destinations for visitors downtown. Historically, the lighthouse guarded the shores for salt and lumber exporters—today, it still guards the shores for incoming fishermen. The Marine Museum houses ancient marine artifacts from Kincardine and surrounding areas, and details mysteries about local shipwrecks!

Nature's MillWorks is on the banks of the Teeswater River in Paisley Ontario. The Mill in the name refers to the building's original function. It was originally called the Paisley City Roller Mills and they shipped flour around the world. Today, Nature's MillWorks sells crafts, gifts and children's books featuring Canadian artisans.
