Lier Zimmertower
It is not for nothing that Pallieterstad Lier was nicknamed 'Lierke Plezierke. In this city on the Nete, people like to party and have fun. One of the highlights is undoubtedly the annual fair in Lier. The Novemberfoor Lier 2022 took place from Thursday 3 November to Sunday 20 November. More than 60 attractions and food or drink stalls were spread over the Grote Markt, Zimmerplein and Gasthuisvest.
The Gothic belfry dating from 1369 is classified UNESCO World Heritage. The tower was the symbol of freedom and power. Nowadays it houses a small automatic carillon with 23 bells. no public access.
De Fortuin was probably built in the 17th century. It was used first as a grain store, then as a coal depot, lemonade factory, cabinetmaker’s workshop, town warehouse and restaurant.
The Prisoner’s Gate was built in 1375 as part of the town wall of the time. From the 16th century to 1930 the gate was used as a prison, hence the present name.
The Spui, the former lock house on the Nete, is the only remaining building of the second town wall (1508-1516).
ZIMMER TOWER AND MUSEUM
Visit the Zimmer Tower and the exhibition on time and space in the pavilion. You will discover the life's work of Louis Zimmer, who was passionate about clocks and astronomy.
Following a fascinating introduction to the big bang, you can admire the ingenious workings of the Wonder Clock, the Jubilee Clock and the Astronomical Studio. You can actually see the mechanism working inside the Zimmer Tower.
The former Cornelius tower from the 13th century, part of the old city walls, was transformed into the Zimmer Tower in 1930. Zimmer donated the Jubilee Clock to the town of Lier in honour of Belgium's 100th anniversary.
The pavilion was added in 1960, especially for the Wonder Clock. In this pavilion you will also find the exhibition on time and space, with a projection of the big bang.
Louis Zimmer (1888-1970) was a self-taught artist with the patience of an angel. He was an amateur astronomer who rose to the pinnacle of watchmaking.
For tourist information, you can visit the information office in the historic town hall on the Grand Place. Since 2017, Visit Lier has been based on the 1st floor of the former council chamber.
The tourist information office of Visit Lier has various shelves and leaflet dispensers. There are also 3 digital modules where visitors can search information themselves using a touch screen:

• about the surrounding area
• maps (walking and cycling routes)
There is also a video screen with a bench in the entrance hall and a shop with publications and souvenirs. As a visitor, you can ask at the counter for more information and explanations. We are happy to assist you in Dutch, French, English, German, Spanish and Italian.
The information office is accessible for wheelchair users There is a separate entrance at the rear with direct access to the lift. As such, visitors can quickly get from the ground floor to the first floor (information office). Visit Lier also has its own wheelchair available.
In Lier you can go for walking, cycling, boat trips and visiting the markets and shops.

De Tuinen van Hoegaarden - Het park van de stilte - reportage van Catherine Boone en Tine de Jong
Welkom in de Tuinen van Hoegaarden gelegen in het Hageland in de Belgische provincie Vlaams-Brabant. Onlangs hebben vriendin Tine de Jong en ik deze deze tuin bezocht. Het is een absolute aanrader wanneer jij in de buurt bent. Hier vind jij rust in de kleuren en ruimte om te bewegen. Deze tuinen staan ook bekend om hun bloembollenverzameling. Daarnaast maak jij kennis met een enorm gevarieerde planten- en bloemenverzameling: een 60-tal in de vijver drijvende Agapanthussen met witte, blauwe en paarse tinten, schitterende struiken, ravissante rozen en de vaste planten die het hele jaar door geuren en kleuren aan het park geven. Denk maar aan de papavers, irissen en daglelies. Bijzonder is ook de centrale laan die van het Kapittelhuys dwars door het park naar de Tuin van Heden loopt.
Er zijn verschillende tuinen aangelegd die elk een eigen thema hebben, wat het hier zo bijzonder maakt. De hagen geven de laan ook een statig karakter. Naast een dierbare beuk en een prachtige libanonceder ( of Libanese ceder ) omgetoverd tot een Vivara Vogelboom kruisen eeuwenoude en jonge bomen elkanders wegen. Visit Hoegaarden and discover the gardens near the Saint Gorgonius church. The tower in white Gobertange stone dominates from afar the view of this village celebrated for its beer. The church is recognised as the largest Rococo one in the country. The gardens of Hoegaarden are well known, especially for its wide variety of flower forms and colours. All kind of Agapanthus, papavers or poppies, roses and different plants of the genus Iris are growing during the year. Exceptional trees, several bushes and hedges are also popular. Discover here what make the gardens of Hoegaarden such a great destination to visit.

Vossem-Tervuren-Duisburg : een eindejaarswandeling 2020
Van het centrum van Vossem ( Vlaams-Brabant) volg je het riviertje de Voer langs een klein, groen pad tot aan de Vossemvijver. Langs de vijvers gaat het verder tot in het Warandepark, met het Afrikamuseum. Langs de rand van Tervuren, wandelen wij door het Tervurenbos en langs het Hagelandse leemplateau gaan we tot aan de rand van het dorp Duisburg, en langs holle wegen terug naar onze startplaats: Vossem. Een wandeling van 12,6 km.
Depuis le centre de Vossem (Brabant flamand), vous suivez le ruisseau Voer le long d'un petit sentier vert jusqu'au l' étang de Vossem. Nous marchons plus loin le long des étangs, jusqu'au Warandepark, avec le musée de l'Afrique. Nous continuons notre marche depuis Tervuren, et nous marchons à travers le forêt de Tervuren et le long du plateau de limon de Hageland nous nous dirigeons vers le bord du village de Duisburg, et le long de routes creuses pour retourner à notre point de départ: Vossem. Une promenade de 12,6 km.
From the center of Vossem (Flemish Brabant in Belgium) you follow the river Voer along a small, green path to the Vossem pond. It continues along the ponds to the Royal Park, with the Africa Museum. Along the edge of Tervuren, we walk through the Tervuren forest and along the Hageland loam plateau we walk to the village Duisburg, and along hollow roads back to our starting place: Vossem. A walk of 12.6 km.

Het ringvormige gebied wordt soms onderscheiden in de noordrand, oostrand, zuidrand en westrand. De zes faciliteitengemeenten waar de verfransing van Vlaanderen speelt, kennen beperkte taalrechten voor Franstaligen. Alle 19 gemeenten maken deel uit van de provincie Vlaams-Brabant en behoren (met uitzondering van Tervuren dat tot het arrondissement Leuven behoort) tot het arrondissement Halle-Vilvoorde (en dus tot het voormalige kiesarrondissement B-H-V). Hoewel de randgemeenten geen bestuurlijk of administratief geheel vormen, genieten ze vanwege de Vlaamse overheden wel een bijzondere belangstelling en sommige gunsten, omdat ze door de nabijheid van het Brussels Hoofdstedelijk Gewest te maken hebben met een aantal specifieke uitdagingen op vlak van verkeer, ruimtelijke ordening, internationalisering, grondspeculatie, milieuvervuiling en taalpolitiek. De Vlaamse regering neemt specifieke maatregelen om de verfransing van haar grondgebied tegen te gaan.
De 19 gemeenten grenzen aan een Brusselse gemeente of aan een randgemeente met taalfaciliteiten: zes faciliteitengemeenten Drogenbos, Kraainem, Linkebeek, Sint-Genesius-Rode, Wemmel en Wezembeek-Oppem en de gemeenten Asse, Beersel, Dilbeek, Grimbergen, Hoeilaart, Machelen, Meise, Merchtem, Overijse, Sint-Pieters-Leeuw, Tervuren, Vilvoorde en Zaventem. Volgens een ruimere definitie horen ook volgende gemeenten bij de brede Rand: Affligem, Gooik, Halle, Huldenberg, Kampenhout, Kortenberg, Lennik, Liedekerke, Pepingen, Steenokkerzeel en Ternat
