THE VENICE OF JAPAN | Exploring Kurashiki's Historical Town
There are not many tourists who know about the historical town of Kurashiki on the outskirts of Okayama. I was very fortunate to find out about this area when I was passing through and I would highly recommend you visit here if you enjoy the more traditional side of Japanese culture. It is very easy to get to if you are already staying in Okayama or there is also the option of staying right in Kurashiki with many beautiful ryokans. この日は朝から倉敷へ行って、観光スポットの美観地区で食べ歩きを♪ 仕事を終えた夕方には岡山駅に戻り、新幹線に乗るギリギリまで岡山グルメを満喫しました。
約一年ぶりの岡山でしたが、前回食べられなかった名物も含めて、色んなお店を回ることができました。岡山編はまたお送りする予定なので、そちらも楽しみにお待ちいただけると嬉しいです♪

吹屋ふるさと村～赤銅色の石州瓦とベンガラ色の美しい町並み（ Fukiya Furusato Mura / Takahashi City, Okayama pref.)
岡山県高梁市の「吹屋エリア」は、江戸時代末期から明治時代の初期にかけて、銅やベンガラの生産で栄えました。今でも当時の雰囲気を感じることができる町並みが残っており、観光地として人気があります。
町並みは国選定の「伝統的建造物群保存地区」になっています。
このエリアにある「旧吹屋小学校」は平成24年3月まで現役の校舎として使われていた木造日本最古の校舎です。平成27年から令和4年3月末まで大規模修繕が行われ、2022年より資料館として開館します。（オープンは2022年4月21日）
1900年頃に建造された木造校舎は「県指定重要文化財」になっています。

Today we spend the day in the beautiful city of Kurashiki, Okayama! We eat blue food on Denim Street, take a traditional boat tour along the canal, and explore the Bikan Historical Quarter. Kurashiki is our favourite city in the Okayama prefecture, and I'm pretty sure you will be able to see why!

Trivia: There were so many spots that I saw on TV here in Kurashiki Bikan Historic Area. It's certainly a huge area and I'm sure you will like it. However it's a shame that many people go home quickly and don't stay at night. I was one of them too before. But for the first time I stayed in a hotel nearby and walked in this area at night without tourists. WOW! The night view was very sexy! I shot another video at night here, so please stay tuned!

Kurashiki (倉敷) is located in Okayama Prefecture, not far from the capital city of Okayama.
Kurashiki has a preserved canal area dating back to the Edo period (1603-1867), when the city served as an important rice distribution center. In fact, the name Kurashiki can roughly translate as the town of warehouses for rice warehouses.
Many of Kurashiki's former warehouses have been converted into museums, shops and cafes. Ohara Museum is the most impressive of Kurashiki's museums, displaying a large collection of works by famous Western artists.
This canal area is a 10-minute walk from Kurashiki Station. You can enjoy a nice peaceful walk and feel like you are in historical Japan.

Witness the most picturesque merchant quarter in Japan!
Kurashiki, located in Okayama prefecture, was once the main hub for rice distribution during the Edo period. It is now a popular tourist haven because of its scenic canals that are lined with willow trees found in the Bikan district (Bikan-chiku), a name which translates to “beautiful views” in Japanese.
The city built these canals to let boats transport rice to and from its storehouses. Today, only the central section of the city’s former canal system remains known as the Bikan Historical Quarter (Kurashiki Bikan Chiku).
Walking along the canal, visitors can experience the idyllic charm of the city with its former storehouses that have been turned into cafes, boutiques, souvenir shops and museums. Weeping willow trees line the canal and the stone bridges making for a picturesque scene.
Bikan-chiku offers a pleasant place to go strolling. The serene ambience of willow lined canals, together with traditional looking buildings, gives you a glimpse of simpler times as the city entices you with its old-world charm.
