Nagano Travel Guide
A travel guide for visiting Nagano Japan. Highlights include: Getting to Nagano from Tokyo, Nagano Station, Zenkoji Temple, Cherry Blossoms, and the Snow Monkey Park. Nagano, now connected by a new Shinkansen line, is only a 90 minute trip from Tokyo Station. Although most people only know of Nagano as a former home to the winter Olympics, it is a great day trip from Tokyo, or over-night stay to visit the Nagano Snow Monkey Park.
While you are in Nagano, make sure to their some of their food specialties: Soba Noodles, Apples, and Miso Ice Cream. The third floor of JR Nagano Station has a great selection of local eateries.

Toyama Castle
You can go inside the castle for 200 Yen, and find a museum and observation deck. But my favorite part was exploring the gardens.
Daiwa Toyama
It is the only department store in Toyama Prefecture where various events such as product exhibitions are held, along with the latest fashion, cosmetics, selected goods and souvenirs from Toyama. My favorite store was this christmas pop-store!
Machinaka Plaza
Right next to it is the glass-covered weather-proof galleria Machinaka Plaza, where various events are held.
Toyama Glass Art Museum
Home to a permanent exhibition of Dale Chihuly’s works. This place was a highlight of my trip. This building also serves as a library.

Toyama City Hall observation tower
5 minute walk from the station, we have a free observation tower. Just walk in and take the elevator to the top floor.
Zuiryuji Temple
Recognized by the government as a national treasure. You feel like you are in Nara or Kyoto at this Zen Buddhist temple.

Considered one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Japan, this 6 day epic adventure crossing Japan's northern alps is one never to be forgotten.
Tateyama (3003m) ~ Yakushidake (2926m) ~ Kurobegoroudake (2840m) ~ Mitsumatarengedake (2841m) ~ Momisawadake (2755m) ~ Yarigatake (3180m) ~ Minamidake (3033m) ~ Kitahotakadake (3106m) ~ Okuhotakadake (3190m) ~ Kamikochi (1500m)

◆Between Toyama and Nagano prefectures,
there is a steep 3,000m-high mountain range called the Japan Alps.
However, there is a route that passes directly through this mountain to Toyama.

Togakushi Shrine & a ONCE EVERY 7 YEARS Festival!!! ???? | Nagano Prefecture | Japan Travel Vlog
The Togakushi Shrine is the most sacred Shinto shrine in Nagano and even Japan. Built deep inside the mountains, it is associated with one of the most famous legends in Japanese mythology involving Amaterasu, the Sun goddess and highest deity in Shintoism. However, during my visit here I also got SUPER lucky, and by PURE coincidence I was able to witness a Shinto ritual that few tourists have ever seen, as it only takes place once every 7 years…
The Togakushi region is also famous for its handmade soba, or buckwheat noodles, so definitely try it out at one of the many soba restaurants near the Middle Shrine when you’re here!
How to get to Togakushi Shrine
Togakushi Shrine can be accessed by public transport from Nagano Station. Go to the Alpico Bus Terminal across the street from Nagano Station and buy a ticket from the vending machine (English available). You can choose to go to the Lower, Middle, or Inner Shrine with each one increasing slightly in price (¥1,250 - ¥1,350).

I WANTED to buy Two Traditional Akiya houses in a Japanese Countryside town - Houses under 10K USD
I visited a small town in Toyama prefecture called Kamiichi with the intention of buying one of these two traditional houses. I didn't (you will find out why in the video). However to my surprise, the local agent is okay with buyers from overseas. If you are interested in one of the two houses please send an email to me first at info@koryoya.com. I do plan to put up the property pages of these two houses on the KORYOYA site as well. Please note that as these two properties are listed for very cheap they could be sold any time. Both are less than 10 mins walk from Kamiichi train station by the way.
