A suburban area of Tokyo rich in nature and with many tourist sites
Area Characteristics
Saitama is an inland prefecture with more than 7 million people. With an area of 3,797km2（1,466mile2）, it is bigger than the 179th-biggest nation of Samoa（2,842km2＝1,097mile2）. Access to the southern part of the prefecture which includes Omiya and Urawa is excellent as a bedroom community of Tokyo while the northern area which includes the city of Chichibu has plenty of nature.
Major Sites
Saitama Prefecture has Chichibu-Tama-Kai National Park among many other sightseeing sites to enjoy nature including the downstream area of Nagatoro Gorge. Along with the landmarks of Saitama New Urban Center and Saitama Super Arena, there is a great variety of spots to see such as The Railway Museum, Bonsai Village and Kawagoe which has been dubbed “Little Edo”.
Food
Soka senbei (rice crackers), Kawagoe potato cakes and Kumagaya gokabo sweets are the 3 famous confections of Saitama. Furthermore, the prefecture is also famous as a treasure house for its comfort food including Kitamoto tomato curry which won a national curry contest, Hatogaya yakiudon (fried udon noodles) which has been recognized as one of the Top 5 yakiudon in Japan, and a form of karaage (deep-fried chicken) whose breading is made from Soka senbei. As well, there is Sayama tea which is among the Top 3 teas in the country and Coedo beer from Kawagoe which has even won acclaim abroad.
Transportation
There are 15 railways operated by JR and private corporations going from Tokyo into Saitama, so these are recommended over buses and cars. It’s customary to take the train from Tokyo Station for Omiya via Ueno or go through Ikebukuro to reach Kawagoe and Chichibu. Although Saitama has plenty of north-south lines, it has a dearth of east-west lines so if you are considering touring through the prefectural sightseeing spots, renting a car is convenient.

Day trip to GYODA, Saitama, Japan from Tokyo
This is a video all about my day trip to Gyoda city in Saitama prefecture Japan. Which is around an hours train ride away from Tokyo central station.
For my visit, I went to:
- See the rice field art from the observation deck of the Kodai Hasu no Sat.
- Saitama Kofun park
- museum of the Saitama ancient burial mounds
- Try the local Jelly fries and Tambo at Kodai hasu no sato
- Visit a traditional sock factory - Kineya tabi
- Grab lunch at ANDO for Soba noodle
- Oshi Castle
- Tasting Jyumangoku manjyu

LIVE Walk Around Kawagoe - Japan’s ‘Little Edo’ (Tokyo Day Trips)
Kawagoe has long been a popular merchant town. This historical area is around an hour from Tokyo. It maintains a traditional atmosphere thanks to its older warehouses and homes that were built from the late Edo period to the Meiji period (1890s to 1900s).
Many local shops occupy old buildings and private houses that have been renovated for modern use.
Here, Bella and Timothy walk down Kawagoe's Penny Candy Lane and then continue on to the old warehouse district before reaching Taisho Roman Yume-dori Street, where there are a number of colorful koi nobori - carp streamers - decorating the streets ahead of Golden Week in early May.
Today we are joined by Midori from NPO English Friendly Town Committee. She’s a registered national guide who shares some of the shops and spots you should know when exploring Kawagoe, and a peek into the city's history.

Kami-Fukuoka Station (上福岡駅, Kamifukuoka-eki) is a passenger railway station located in the city of Fujimino, Saitama, Japan, operated by the private railway operator Tōbu Railway.
Fujimino (ふじみ野市, Fujimino-shi) is a city located in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. As of 1 January 2021, the city had an estimated population of 114,566 in 53,053 households and a population density of 7800 persons per km². The total area of the city is 14.64 square kilometres (5.65 sq mi).
The Tobu Tojo Line (東武東上線, Tōbu Tōjō-sen) is a 75.0 km (46.6 mi) suburban railway line in Japan which runs from Ikebukuro Station in Toshima, Tokyo to Yorii Station in Yorii, Saitama, operated by the private railway operator Tobu Railway. Its official name is the Tobu Tojo Main Line (東武東上本線, Tōbu Tōjō Honsen), but it is referred to as Tobu Tojo Line (東武東上線, Tōbu Tōjō Sen) on Tobu signage and publicity information.
The Tojo Line and Tobu Ogose Line branch are isolated from other Tobu lines, such as the Isesaki Line and Nikko Line; some trains can however be transported between the Tojo Line and the rest of the Tobu network via the track connections with the Chichibu Main Line while on the ATS-Chichibu-type. There was a plan to connect between Nishiarai on the Isesaki Line and Kami-Itabashi on the Tojo Line, but this was never built.
The name of the line comes from the original plan to construct a line linking Tokyo (東京) with Jōshū (上州) (an old province now Gunma Prefecture).

The ruins of Fukuoka Castle (福岡城跡, Fukuokajōato) are located in the middle of the city in Maizuru Park, named after the castle's alias, Maizuru Castle. During the Edo Period (1603-1867), Fukuoka Castle used to be the largest castle on Kyushu, but it was almost completely torn down after the Meiji Restoration as an unwanted symbol of the feudal past. Nowadays only ruined walls and a few turrets remain, and the park attracts visitors with walking trails and a few lookout points.
Fukuoka Castle was built in the beginning of the 17th century by Kuroda Nagamasa, who was appointed lord of the surrounding Chikuzen feudal domain (part of today's Fukuoka Prefecture) for his support of Tokugawa Ieyasu during the battle of Sekigahara. The Kuroda clan ruled from the castle for more than two centuries until the abolition of the feudal system in 1870.
The best time to visit the castle ruins is usually between late March and early April, when Maizuru Park turns into the city's most pleasant spot for cherry blossom viewing. A number of walking paths are lined with cherry trees so that visitors can walk through a tunnel of flowers, and there are also plenty of lawned areas for holding hanami parties under the blossoms.
Among the few surviving or reconstructed castle buildings are some gates and guard towers, scattered across the castle grounds. Parts of the moat system also remain, most noticeably on Maizuru Park's northern border and in form of the large lake at the center of the neighboring Ohori Park.
How to get there
The Fukuoka Castle Ruins can be reached in a 10-15 minute walk from Ohori Koen Subway Station.
