Bruges Belgium is a beautiful Medieval city that is sometimes called the Venice of the North. Bruges (or Brugge in Flemish) was once the second largest city in Europe, after London. It was a major player in the cloth trade with Britain and was very wealthy during its golden age. Climbing Castles & Caves in DINANT & BRUGES BELGIUM
This is day 2 of my trip to Belgium!
In 1841, a man named Adolphe Sax created the saxophone in Dinant. In present day, the city is covered with saxophone statues, and even a public museum of the history of his creations.
The Citadel (Citadelle) of Dinant is a fortress that was built in 1815. This was built ontop of the original fort that was from 1051. The public is able to climb up to the top of the fortress, where they have quite a few different activities to do and see. They have a live simulation of fighting in trenches in wars, a full museum and an old war plane! This fortress was heavily battered during both World Wars.
The Caves of Dinant were Discovered in 1904 by railroad workers. These caves are 65 meters deep with multiple chambers. They are absolutely insane, with winding tunnels that go deep into the ground. The silence and dampness down there was mind-blowing.
Bruges (Brugges) is a stunning city with a beautiful Center Markt. There are church bells that ring throughout the square & lovely places to eat throughout.

Hidden gem in Bruges: Authentic wooden houses - 4K
Long thought of as a Sleeping Beauty reawakened, Brugge is an ancient village whose heritage has been well preserved. Although it is often called Bruges, its French name, the city's official name is indeed Brugge (bruhg-guh), and you'll score points with the locals by using the Flemish title.
In Bruges many years there is debate about building in the historic center. Almost every inhabitant feels involved in what is happening to his city.
In Genthof and Kortewinkel you’ll discover two authentic medieval wooden facades. It’s a small miracle that these fragile constructions have withstood the ravages of time for so long.
The upper storeys each project a little further forward. This avoided water damage and made more space. Regulations to prevent fire had existed since the 13th century, but it was only in the 17th century that wooden houses were officially forbidden. Hundreds of examples disappeared forever, but fortunately these two have survived.
