Slow Life Hokkaido - Iwanai Gorge
The Iwanai Gorge or Iwanai Senkyo in Obihiro City is situated at the foot of the Hidaka mountain range. It is a famous spot for autumn leaves which reach their peak in mid-October. From the large suspension bridge, you can enjoy a view of the Iwanai River flowing through the gorge below. This place is also the venue for the Iwanai Senkyo Momiji Festival.

昨秋、母の用事で泊村へ行った時の映像です。
母から泊村へ連れてって欲しい、と言われた瞬間に雷電海岸の刀掛岩を見に行くと決めました。
雷電海岸を車で通るのは実に14~15年ぶり。日本海の海岸は奇岩が多く神話もあり、いつもミステリアスかつロマンを感じさせてくれます。雷電海岸にある刀掛岩は、北海道にも残る義経伝説(源義経が武蔵坊弁慶と共に北海道へ落ち延びた)の影響が残る地域です。
This is a video of when I went to Tomari Village last autumn for my mother's errands.
The moment her mother asked me to take her to Tomari Village, I decided to go see the Katanakake(hold a japanese sword) Rock on Raiden Coast.
It's been 14-15 years since I've driven through the Raiden Coast. The coast of the Sea of Japan has many strangely shaped rocks and myths, and it always makes me feel mysterious and romantic. Katanakake Rock on the Raiden Coast is an area where the influence of the Yoshitsune legend (Minamoto no Yoshitsune escaped to Hokkaido with Musashibo Benkei) remains in Hokkaido.

Leaving Niseko on to Rt.66 to Iwanai. A 926m elevation, scenic and quiet road all to myself.. just the way I like to bicycle tour! The unknown ahead and the excitement took away the pain as I climb endlessly to the top. A 17km roller coaster ride downhill to Iwanai, reward for a climb well done! If you don't like long climbing, Rt. 5 to Iwana is the way.
