Okinawa Beach, Odo Beach in Itoman City is a recommended beach full of fish and coral [Short ver]

An Okinawan born and raised in Okinawa, I will introduce various beaches in Okinawa with underwater videos.

The beach introduced here is Odo Beach, also known as John Man Beach, located in Itoman City. John Manjiro landed on this Odo Beach when he returned to Japan, and it is a popular beach among locals.

Swimming in the reef of Odo Beach at low tide, the beach is full of fish and coral, and is recommended for snorkeling beginners. Many spiny lobsters came to me and pecked at my hand even though I didn't feed them.

Odo Beach is a well-known local beach not only for swimming and playing on the shore, but also for diving and surfing.

The water inside the reef is 1 to 4 meters deep, and at low tide the tides are gentle, making it look like a natural swimming pool. This beach is recommended for snorkeling beginners and families.

If you want to swim in Okinawa's natural ocean on a sightseeing trip, Odo Beach is a good choice. Even with small children, it is fine. Please take a look at it as a reference.

If you like Okinawa and the ocean, please subscribe to our channel!

Japan Travel: Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, Commemorating the Battle. Itoman,Okinawa25 Moopon

Near the end of World WarII, Okinawa Island became the site of one of the war's bloodiest battles, when the US forces invaded and occupied the island. An estimated 200,000 people, including more than 100,000 civilians and 12,500 Americans were killed in the battle.
The devastating effects of the war had a deep impact on the local people. There are a number of monuments and museums relating to the period throughout Okinawa Island. The worst battle took place in the south, and that is where some of the larger monuments have been constructed.

Peace Memorial Museum, located in Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, gives a sobering overview of the lead up to the battle, the battle itself and the reconstruction of Okinawa.

Cornerstone of Peace

Himeyuri Monument (Himeyuri no To)

Former Navy Underground Headquarters
It consists of several hundred meters of underground corridors and rooms that served as the Japanese navy's headquarters during the war. A lot of sailors committed suicide in these tunnels, after their situation had grown hopeless towards the end of the battle.

Life in Okinawa Japan ✦ Vlog #4✦ Southeast Botanical Garden ✦ Boat Ride & Watching Sunset

Today we decided to randomly pick a place to go, and we ended up at this amazing place. Located in Okinawa City just a 5-10 minute drive from Kadena. The gardens cover 100 acres (40.47 ha) and contain over 2,000 plant species, including some 450 species of palms, as well as flowers, fruit trees, a Polynesian Lake with carp, and an insect collection.

There's a bus tour that costs extra at the gate, so be sure to pay prior to waiting for the driver. Or you can walk the gardens like my family did and take in the scenery how it's intended.

We ended the day with a boat cruise to watch the Okinawa Sunset. Unobstructed 360 views of pure nature, and some Chatan Saturday night fireworks after dinner.

Travel Japan: The Royal gardens of Okinawa, Shikinaen.

Shikinaen, the royal gardens of Okinawa

Shikinaen is located approximately 3kms from Shuri Castle,

The garden is circular in design, a style very popular amongst Japanese feudal lords,

Historically the two sites were connected by a stone path, that still exists within the garden walls.

Shikinaen was designed to be strolled through rather than viewed from a particular perspective. However unlike many other Japanese gardens, Shikinaen also displays many features that are Chinese in origin, a combination that has been called “uniquely Ryukyuan” in design.

In the middle of the main pond, atop a small island that is connected by stone arched bridges is a hexagonal pavilion that is very Chinese in design. One of the reasons for the Chinese influence is that the first guests to the garden where an envoy from China a year after it’s construction. The pavilions were reserved especially for sure important guests.

Shikinaen, also known as Nan-en which means southern garden, was constructed at the end of the 18th century as a second home for the Okinawa Royal family.

The gardens are amassed with a diverse range of flora, from subtropical forest plants like Hibiscus to cheery blossoms at the end of winter. The large woodland area is home to all kinds of local birds, bringing a rich natural sound to the air as you stroll along the stone pathways.

The palace is the central feature of the gardens, a single story building made of wood and tile, The combination of wood and tatami mats give this 643sq meter palace a warm and tranquil feel, with an abundance of natural light from the open walls along the deck.

It has amazing views of the gardens from many of its 15 rooms.

Shikinaen was completely destroyed during the battle of Okinawa in 1945, however a restoration of its palace and gardens began in 1975 and as of December 2nd 2000 it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage site as a place of scenic beauty.

Unlike many other tourist attraction in Naha, Shikinaen isn’t accessible via the monorail, couple that with the sheer size of the grounds, some 42,000 sq meters and it becomes a rare place to escape the crowds and concrete of Okinawa’s main city.

If you travel to Okinawa, we highly recommend taking a trip to Shikinaen gardens for a true taste of the real Ryukyu kingdom.
