Tokyo is an eclectic city, an incredible mix of imperial palaces, shrines, temples, but also avant-garde neighborhoods full of huge skyscrapers. Tokyo is a symbol of relaxation, thanks to the presence of the well-known Onsen, the typical thermal baths.

But at the same time it is also a dynamic city, full of themed bars and seemingly anonymous alleys, which in reality hide its truest soul. Not to mention the karaoke, pachinko and ubiquitous arcades.

In short, a city that never sleeps and, above all, with 1,000 facets. A city that can stun and baffle at first glance, so much so that, after the first time, you either fall in love with it or hate it!

Hidden Gems In The Japanese Countryside

If you're looking to visit a city other than the main ones like Tokyo, Kyoto, or Osaka - check out Tottori Prefecture in the Japanese countryside!

The big cities are great, but the countryside is where you can truly experience the 'real' Japanese culture (in my opinion).

I hope this travel guide encourages you to travel and explore just a little bit deeper than the average tourist and I hope you can meet all the kind people and see the amazing places in the countryside!

Visiting Japan's Cat Island???????????? | Miyagi Tashirojima Island | ASMR

Tashirojima Island is a small island located in Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. Since ancient times, cats have been taken care of, and it is called Cat Island because there are more cats than residents on the island. You can meet a lot of cats while walking. Perhaps because they were raised with the love of many people, they are very friendly and kind. The coexistence of humans and cats is the culture of Tashirojima. The charm of this island is that cats and humans live freely. Humans can't decide what makes a cat happy, but I hope cats can live peacefully.

How to stay overnight in a temple in Japan

Religious Japanese travelers have used them for lodging for years, but recently, historical temples with reservable rooms — “temple stays,” or shukubo — have become accessible to foreign tourists. We checked into Kakurinbo, a 550-year-old shukubo near Mount Fuji, and found a meditative experience, Buddhist-inspired vegetarian fine dining and a peaceful look at life outside of cities Read more: Subscribe to The Washington Post on YouTube:

Solo trip to the disaster areas in Tohoku, Japan 10 years after the disaster

I went on a trip to the disaster areas 10 years after the disaster, Miyagi Prefecture, where the largest number of people died by prefecture.
Traveling around the disaster areas may sound strange to you. For many foreign people, the image of the disaster areas is the towns destroyed by the tsunami that were repeatedly broadcasted on the news ten years ago. I wanted to show how those towns have changed and are now places where you can travel. The towns and the people who are trying to recover from the disaster are as beautiful as or more beautiful than the temples in Kyoto or Mt. Fuji...etc. Especially, Onagawa town, which is called the most successful town in terms of recovery, if someone who has never heard of 311 disaster were to visit there, they might think of it as a town with just a nice atmosphere by the sea.
And some people may feel that traveling around the disaster areas is unethical and hesitate to do so. However, the reason why the schools and the police station have been preserved is because the survivors of the disaster want you to see them.
I hope you will visit the Tohoku region someday. Of course, with respect.

Travel information in brief.

Sendai City: You can get there from Tokyo by Shinkansen (2 hours), airplane (1 hour), or bus (6 hours). It is a very big city. There are many hotels ranging from luxury to cheap.

Matsushima: About 30 minutes from Sendai by car or train. Walking around the town in the morning is recommended. There are some historical and luxury inns. You don't need a car to get around.

Nobiru: About 50minutes from Sendai by car or 30 to 50 minutes by train.

Ishinomaki: 1 hour from Sendai by car or train. Buses and taxies are available to get around the city, but a car is recommended since it is a large city.

Onagawa: About 30 minutes by car or train from Ishinomaki. It is a small town, so a car is not necessary.
