Nagano Travel Guide
A travel guide for visiting Nagano Japan. Highlights include: Getting to Nagano from Tokyo, Nagano Station, Zenkoji Temple, Cherry Blossoms, and the Snow Monkey Park. Nagano, now connected by a new Shinkansen line, is only a 90 minute trip from Tokyo Station. Although most people only know of Nagano as a former home to the winter Olympics, it is a great day trip from Tokyo, or over-night stay to visit the Nagano Snow Monkey Park.
While you are in Nagano, make sure to their some of their food specialties: Soba Noodles, Apples, and Miso Ice Cream. The third floor of JR Nagano Station has a great selection of local eateries.

These places are usually visited by people from around Japan and many tourists outside of the country don’t really know about them.
Let’s go on a trip to a place in Japan that you have probably never heard of before.
The destinations of this trip are located within Nagano Prefecture. Norikura Kogen, Shirahone Onsen and Narai-juku.

After MONTHS of the Suica and Passmo being canceled, it looks like Japan’s ICONIC Suica Card is officially back!! Well sort of, let me explain! For anyone that might not know, Tokyo's Suica and Passmo Cards are the primary method to pay for the trains, buses, and other forms of public transportation in the Tokyo area. However, because of a perfect storm between a massive semiconductor chip shortage and a sharp demand increase from tourists earlier this year, these essential transportation cards were discontinued until spring of 2024. And for a while things looked bleak, as there were only a few options to hold tourists over until the Suica returned. But now, it finally seems like there is some good news to celebrate about, as JR East recently disclosed they are now offering Suica cards again… in a limited capacity that is. After hearing the rumors and unconfirmed reports, I decided to check it out myself. And luckily the good news is true, as I have confirmed it myself! And as every video I have made, I’m going to help you and show exactly how and where to get your very own Suica card for when you visit Japan! Not only that, but I’ll show you every other IC option currently available so your trip is as stress free as possible! Shoutout to PESO for letting me know about this update on their website first! 長野県最北の市、飯山市。豪雪地帯で知られる当市を中心としたエリアには「みゆきの」という愛称が付けられています。漢字で書くと「深雪野」または「美雪野」で、字の通り雪にちなんだ名称です。
飯山市の主要幹線道路と言えば、千曲川沿いを南北に走る国道117号ですが、ほぼ平行する形で、信越国境を走る関田山脈沿いにも幹線道路が走っています。沿線の集落や農地を結ぶ生活色の強い道ですが、交通量は僅かで走りやすい道です。
今回は、飯山駅前から県道曽根藤ノ木線、市道「みゆきのライン」などを通って照岡地区まで走ってみました。
序盤は飯山市街地の市道区間です。飯山線の踏切を過ぎると、通称「雁木通り」に入っていきます。別名”仏壇通り”と呼ばれ、仏壇店がずらりと並ぶ珍しい光景があります。なお、この通りは元国道292号のルートです。
国道292号現道区間を挟み、県道曽根藤ノ木線へと進みます。この辺りは「外様平」と呼ばれ、千曲川とは尾根一つ隔てられていますが、広々とした盆地の中を走る気持ちの良い道です。
以前収録した関田峠に向かう県道上越飯山線を北上し、温井集落付近で市道10-324号線「みゆきのライン」に入ります。千曲川と関田山脈に挟まれた段丘上を走る快走路で、出川、桑名川などの非常に深い谷を橋梁で駆け抜けます。
やがて農道のような細道に突き当たって快走路は終了となります。この細道は国道403号で、長野県随一の狭隘酷道として知られています。
最後に国道403号を千曲川に向かって南下し、飯山線の踏切を渡った所で終了となります。
