Ghent (/ɡɛnt/ GHENT; Dutch: Gent, [ɣɛnt] (About this soundlisten); French: Gand, [ɡɑ̃] (About this soundlisten); traditional English: Gaunt) is a city and a municipality in the Flemish Region of Belgium. It is the capital and largest city of the East Flanders province, and the third largest in the country, exceeded in size only by Brussels and Antwerp.[2] It is a port and university city.
The city originally started as a settlement at the confluence of the Rivers Scheldt and Leie and in the Late Middle Ages became one of the largest and richest cities of northern Europe, with some 50,000 people in 1300.
The municipality comprises the city of Ghent proper and the surrounding suburbs of Afsnee, Desteldonk, Drongen, Gentbrugge, Ledeberg, Mariakerke, Mendonk, Oostakker, Sint-Amandsberg, Sint-Denijs-Westrem, Sint-Kruis-Winkel, Wondelgem and Zwijnaarde. With 262,219 inhabitants at the beginning of 2019, Ghent is Belgium's second largest municipality by number of inhabitants. Afgelopen weekend ging ik (alweer) spontaan naar België voor een feestje. Deze keer was het Extrema Outdoor, ook wel bekend als 'XO'! Het festival vond plaats in Houthalen-Helchteren, wat zo'n twee uur rijden van Amsterdam af ligt. We gingen een dagje weg met de auto op de zaterdag. Het evenement zelf duurde van vrijdag t/m maandag en had daarom ook een camping. Meer informatie over het festival kan je vinden in de beoordeling op mijn eigen blog (zie onderstaande link). Onride en overzicht van de 157 meter lange wildwaterbaan van LAGO Kortrijk Weide. Deze wildwaterbaan is geopend in het voorjaar van 2019. De baan heeft een typisch LAGO (S&R Group) ontwerp. Het is een zeer compacte wildwaterbaan met heel veel haarspeldbochten. Tevens is dit de langste wildwaterbaan van de Benelux.

This time we go on a roadtrip from Houthalen to Perk (where we've been before), passing 2 of the biggest Music Festival sites of Belgium: Pukkelpop (in this video) and Werchter (in Part 5 of the trip, as there is some distance to cover :-). 14:28 ready to take the bridge over the Albert Canal, named after King Albert I of Belgium and constructed from 1930 through 1939. It connects Antwerp with Liège and the Meuse river with the Scheldt river. There's also a connection with the Dessel–Turnhout–Schoten Canal. The Albert Canal has a total length of about 130 kilometres.
