Shinhotaka is an Onsen village located in the east of the Takayama town. Today's Japanesquest, I invited my local friend Lina, and together we will take you to Shinhotaka in Takayama!
A visit to the snowy Japanese Alps near Takayama - incl the famous Shinhotaka Ropeway!
Located a few hour's drive from Takayama on the Nohi Bus this is a great day trip if you find yourself in the Gifu Prefecture.
This, one of a kind, two-storey gondola will take you high up into the Japanese Alps, with breathtaking views of its surroundings and if you get here like I did in wintertime, you will get to experience the most amazing winter wonderland! Think snow unto your shoulders, the perfect place to experience winter in Japan!

Best Onsen in Japan!
In this video, I introduce 3 of my favorite hot springs (Onsen) in Japan.
All of them are located in very inconvenient places but definitely worth visiting if you want to deep dive into the real onsen culture of Japan!
The onsen pictures in the video are all from the official websites.
Taking photos in the bathing area is strictly prohibited, so please be careful.
As I mentioned in the video, they will be very crowded on weekends.
My advice is to visit them on weekdays or book and stay the accommodation overnight
so that you can enjoy onsen at night and early morning free from tourists.

I am not a big fan of hot springs in well-known tourist destinations or well-equipped hot springs in hotels.
Rather, I prefer wild, natural hot springs that are inconveniently accessible, sparsely populated, and unspoiled.
Such hot springs are located near volcanoes and are characterized by a strong sulfur smell and cloudy white water.

A hot spring resort ♨️ on a plateau surrounded by the Northern Alps ????????.
The Oku-Hida Spa Village has been designated as a National Hot Spring Health Resort by the Japanese government (Ministry of the Environment), as its beautiful natural environment had been protected and it was ideal for convalescent purposes. Shin-Hotaka Hot Spring is the most distant of this cluster of hot springs. An abundant source of warm water wells up in the invigorating surroundings of this plateau nestled amid the towering peaks of the Northern Alps, and has soothed away the exhaustion of many a mountain climber since ancient times. Rather than being a secluded hot spring, it is more like a resort, with a row of hotels and guest houses standing amid a forest of white birch. The hotels each have outdoor baths to which a variety of original touches have been added, and you can enjoy spectacular views of Mount Yari and Mount Kasa, among other peaks of the Northern Alps, as you bathe.

長野県 上高地の紅葉（大正池・田代池・梓川・河童橋） / Autumn leaves of Kamikochi and Mt. Hotaka ( Nagano, Japan )【日本の紅葉絶景！】
上高地（かみこうち）は、長野県西部に位置する日本随一の景勝地で、国の「特別名勝」と「特別天然記念物」に指定されています。
この動画では、上高地の絶景ポイントを巡りつつ、美しい紅葉風景をご紹介します。なお、例年の上高地の紅葉の見頃は10月上旬～下旬です。
大正池（たいしょういけ）は、焼岳（やけだけ）が1915年（大正4年）に噴火し、その溶岩や泥流によって梓川が堰き止められて誕生した池です。水没して枯死した立木が林立し、独特の景観を作っており、この立ち枯れの木々の景観は、上高地を代表する景色の一つです。
静かな朝、大正池では水鏡のように、水面に逆さにくっきりと映る焼岳や穂高連峰を目にすることができます。
また、大正池（たいしょういけ）の西岸には、荒涼とした溶岩台地が広がっており、焼岳を間近に仰げるほか、穂高連峰の展望も抜群で、上高地の隠れた穴場となっています。
焼岳は、標高2,455mの北アルプスを代表する活火山で「日本百名山」の一つに数えられます。噴火でできた茶色くひび割れた山肌を見れば、大自然のエネルギーのすさまじさを実感できます。
穂高岳（ほたかだけ）・穂高連峰は、日本第三位の標高（3,180m）を誇る奥穂高岳を中心にして、西穂高岳（2,908m）、天狗岩（2,909m）、前穂高岳（3,090m）、明神岳（2,931m）が連なる大岩塊の総称で、「日本百名山」の一つに数えられます。その風貌はまさに「北アルプスの盟主」です。
田代池（たしろいけ）も、焼岳の噴火で流れ出た溶岩によってせき止められてできた池です。カラマツやコメツガの樹林を通る遊歩道を抜けると、突然辺りが開け湿原地帯が広がり、その傍らに田代池が水を満たしています。
周辺は六百山や霞沢岳からの伏流水が湧き出ており、すぐ背後にある田代湿原にも小さな池が点在し、水面に穂高連峰の山並みが映ります。
梓川（あずさがわ）は信濃川水系の一つで、槍ヶ岳を水源とし、上高地をゆっくりと流れたあと、大正池に注ぎこみます。上高地では梓川に沿って散策道が整備されており、穂高連峰や焼岳を仰ぎながら、絶景トレッキングを満喫できます。散策道では野生のニホンザルに出会うことも…
河童橋（かっぱばし）は梓川にかかる橋で、上高地でもっとも有名な風景を眺望できる場所で、梓川の彼方に穂高連峰や焼岳がそびえ立ちます。この河童橋からやや上流に歩いた地点もオススメで、穂高連峰のすぐ前を梓川が流れるような、絶景中の絶景を堪能できるエリアです。
上高地はまさに「山紫水明」の地であり、その際立つ景観を引き立ててくれるのは、生命の源である「水」です。澄んだ水をたたえてゆったり流れる「梓川」（あずさがわ）沿いの遊歩道では、どこで立ち止まっても山岳風景と清流の美しい組合せが楽しめますし、大正池、田代池、明神池には多くの水鳥や魚が生息しており、周囲の森や多くの生命を育んでいます。
上高地は通年マイカー規制が実施されており、松本市方面からは沢渡（さわんど）駐車場、 高山市方面からはあかんだな駐車場からシャトルバスまたはタクシーなどを利用して上高地に入ります。上高地の中心地はバスターミナルがある「河童橋」周辺ですが、途中の「大正池」でもバスを降りられますので、大正池から河童橋まで梓川沿いの散策道をトレッキングしていくのもいいでしょう。
Kamikochi, located in the western part of Nagano Prefecture, is Japan's most scenic area, and is designated as a national special scenic spot and special natural monument.
Wherever you stop, you can enjoy the beautiful combination of mountain scenery and clear water along the Azusa River, which is filled with crystal clear water, and the Taisho Pond, Tashiro Pond and Myojin Pond are home to many waterfowl and fish, which nurture the surrounding forest and many lives.
In this video, you can see the beautiful autumnal leaves while visiting some of the most beautiful spots in Kamikochi.
Taisho Pond was created when Mt. Yakedake erupted in 1915 and the Azusa River was dammed up by lava and mud flows. A forest of dead and submerged trees stands in the pond, creating a unique landscape, which is one of the most representative views of the Kamikochi area.
On a quiet morning, you can see Mt Yakedake and the Hotaka mountain range clearly reflected upside down in the water like a water mirror.
he Azusa River flows slowly through the Kamikochi area and then flows into Taisho Pond. A walking trail has been developed along the Azusa River, where you can enjoy trekking with a superb view of the Hotaka mountain range and Mt Yakedake. You may even see wild Japanese macaques on the trail.
Kappabashi Bridge is a bridge over the Azusa River, and it is the place where you can view the most famous scenery in Kamikochi, where the Hotaka mountain range and Mt Yakedake rise beyond the Azusa River.
The point slightly upstream from Kappa Bridge is also recommended, where you can enjoy a superb view of the Azusa River as it seems to flow right in front of the Hotaka mountain range.

-13°C On a Japanese Mountain - Taking the SHIN-HOTAKA Ropeway // Chubu Region Tour Vlog Day 4
Despite missing out on it the day before due to poor weather, we were surprised in the morning to get a second shot. The Shin-Hotaka ropeway is a 2-stage ropeway with one of the highest elevation gains in Japan, and we took it more than 1000m up a frigid mountain and explored the top station.
After that we head to the little snowy town of Gujo Hachiman for lunch, have a hand in making a simple food replica the town is known for, and I get volunteered for a little local festival dance demonstration. In the evening we arrive back at the big city of Nagoya, where we were able to do some random exploring.
