Hornsby Sydney AUSTRALIA 2023 Walking Tour
Hornsby, Sydney Australia.
Hornsby is a suburb in the Northern Sydney region or Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia, approximately 23 kilometres (14 mi) north-west of the Sydney central business district. It is the administrative centre of the local government area of Hornsby Shire.
The Hornsby Shire Council was established in 1906. In 1961, the Westfield Hornsby shopping mall opened, making it one of the first suburbs in Sydney with a modern-style shopping centre. A competing shopping centre, Northgate, opened in 1979 but was eventually bought by Westfield. In late 1999, the two sites were amalgamated when the original Westfield was demolished and Northgate was renovated to create the new Westfield Hornsby which opened in November 2001.
Hornsby is 25 kilometres (16 mi) by train and about 24 kilometres (15 mi) by road from the Sydney central business district. Hornsby railway station is the junction of the T1 North Shore and the T9 Northern Line of the Sydney Trains network and is a hub for some services and is connected via bridge to Westfield. There are frequent railway services to the central business district via Strathfield or via Gordon. Intercity and regional trains also stop at Hornsby on the way to the Central Coast, Newcastle and further north.
Bus services operate from Hornsby Station Interchange. Services are operated by Transdev NSW.
The Pacific Highway, which passes through Hornsby, was formerly the main road link between Sydney and north-eastern Australia. The completion of the Pacific Motorway (M1), which has its southern end at the neighbouring suburb of Wahroonga, means that the heavy traffic now bypasses the already busy Hornsby town area.
In October 2020, the northernmost section of the NorthConnex tunnel also located in close proximity to Hornsby in the neighbouring suburb of Wahroonga was opened.
Hornsby remains a busy commercial centre, just as it was a century ago. Over the years, the town centre has developed distinct characteristics on either side of the railway line.
The western side consists of a traditional high street shopping village along the Old Pacific Highway. A short section of the highway north of the shops still has several antique lamp posts preserved.

Walking around Westfield HORNSBY Sydney Australia
Walking around Hornsby town centre from Hornsby station to Westfield shopping centre & Peats Ferry road.
Hornsby is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney in the Australian state of New South Wales 19 kilometres (12 mi) north-west of the Sydney central business district. It is the administrative centre of the local government area of Hornsby Shire.
Hornsby remains a busy commercial centre, just as it was a century ago. Over the years, the town centre has developed distinct characteristics on either side of the railway line.
The eastern side is dominated by Westfield Hornsby, a shopping centre, which features a David Jones department store, an Event Cinemas multiplex, 335 stores, a food court and several restaurants. The intersection of Florence Street and Hunter Street became a pedestrian mall in the early 1990s. At the centre of the pedestrian mall is a large water clock sculpture, designed by Victor Cusack. The public library, Hornsby Shire Library, is also located in this area.
The Hornsby Water Clock, titled Man, Time and the Environment is a piece of kinetic sculpture, a decorative fountain and a functional clock in the Florence Street pedestrian mall in Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia.

Walking Around Hornsby & Waitara NSW Australia
Hornsby is located on the North Shore about 36km from the city and about 45 minutes drive. The council of Hornsby is the Hornsby Shire.
Hornsby today remains a very busy commercial district which has always been. The area around Hornsby, Waitara and Asquith have grown over the years. With once houses now replaced with Units.
Hornsby has two sides split by the Hornsby Train station and rail line. To the west side of the station you have a small town centre which has allot old shop fronts along with Hornsby Swimming Pool, Hornsby Tafe, and a Police station, a cinema called Odeon and Hornsby RSL.
On the other side you have Westfield Hornsby which was knocked down in 2000 and rebult and open up in 2001. Which has over 300, 3 major supermarkets 2 asian supermarkets and 5 major department stores.
