This town has nothing to offer anyone!

I visit what is supposed to Yorkshire's most deprived town Dewsbury. The town seems somewhat lost and every other shop is shut or left to rot. The most Dewsbury has to offer is gambling. I deffo took a gamble going there.

OTLEY: Leeds Parish #36 of 38

LEEDS PARISH #36: OTLEY

With three to go in Leeds, today we’re visiting Otley. Overlooking the town is a massive hill called The Chevin, the name of which derives from the Welsh “Cefn” meaning ridge

Watchers of Emmerdale will be familiar with Otley. In the soap, it's referred to as the fictional town of Hotton

There’s no way we could have covered all of this one. Here though is what we did!

Walking Tour 4K. Halifax - Wakefield Gate - Magna Via - Medieval Route. England HD 1080p

The 'Magna Via' is the medieval road eastwards out of Halifax. It was the main route to the manorial centre of Wakefield and thus came to be known as the 'Wakefield Gate'.This walk encompasses part of the route that Anne Lister took to walk to Halifax to undertake business or survey her lands and coal fields. Walking in the footsteps of Anne Lister.

CRIGGLESTONE: Wakefield Parish #25 of 30

With many areas in one massive slice of Western Wakefield, today we visit some places that are synonymous with the Vikings. We start at Pugneys Country Park, a 250-acre park located on the A636 between Wakefield and Junction 39 of the M1 motorway. It is a Local Nature Reserve. The area was developed from a former opencast mine and a sand and gravel quarry and was opened to the public in 1985, overlooked by Sandal Castle.

That’s before we hit Durkar, a small village in the southwestern suburbs of Wakefield, the name “Durkar” deriving from the Norse “drit kjarr” meaning “dirt marsh”. You may have notice how many of the settlement names around here end in “Thorpe”. This is of Viking origin and many areas within the parish can be traced back to that time.

We pass a small park in this one too – part of the site of the former colliery. It’s Wakefield after all, it’s full of mines! Since the 1970s, the site of the colliery has become an industrial estate on the Western side, giving way to residential housing on the Eastern side and the park, named Betty Eastwood Park to the South.

You might remember Newmillerdam from the Chevet episode. We’re on the other side of the lake that we came across in that episode, at the very end of this video. Classed as both a village and a suburb of Wakefield, Newmillerdam was formerly known as Thurstonhaigh, but the village is currently named from the construction of a grain mill powered by water from the dammed lake, and is thus derived from “new mill on the dam”.

There’s much more including a church and a hall, and some railway history too in the parish of CRIGGLESTONE.

Join me as I try to visit every single parish in the City of Wakefield. There are 30. Here's the TWENTY-FIFTH one – Crigglestone.

Notting Hill London Walking Tour (4K)

A walk exploring the topography of one of London's most famous neighbourhoods - Notting Hill. Thanks to my supporters on Patreon
Please subscribe for regular videos:

Based on a walk in Secret London by Andrew Duncan, this Notting Hill walking tour goes around the Campden Hill Spur - a ridge of land that divides the valleys of the Rivers Westbourne and Counter's Creek. We start at Notting Hill Gate station and then walk up Ladbroke Grove to Landsdowne Square where Jimi Hendrix died at the Samarkand Hotel in 1970. From the top of Notting Hill we look down into Notting Dale. Our walk then takes us into Portobello Market and past the Travel Bookshop featured in the film Notting Hill starring Hugh Grant and Julia Roberts. The tour then takes us to Powis Square and the house used in the classic 1970 film Performance starring Mick Jagger and James Fox. Returning to Ladbroke Grove we drop down the hill to Holland Park Avenue and climb Campden Hill and the descend the southern side of the spur to High Street Kensington where the walk ends.
