My Top 10 Things to do in Cornwall
After my trip to Cornwall in the summer of 2021, I have put together a top 10 list of activities and places, ranked in order personal to me.

Across my time in Cornwall I visited Rocky Valley Tintagel, took a Camel Trail bike ride into Padstow, saw Enys Dodnan Arch just along from Lands End Cornwall, visited the National Trust Godolphin, wandered past Botallack Mine, took part in a Kernow Coasteering tour at Praa Sands, ate lunch at Nanjizal Beach, hiked past Porthgwarra Beach took a tour around the National Trust Cornwall 's Levant Beam Engine, stayed in some really quirky Cornwall Accommodations, went on a Waverunner Safaris Carlyon Bay, paid through the nose to visit the not so tranquil St Nectan's Glen, played like a big kid at Glendurgan Maze, looked on in awe as we hiked down the coastal cliffs to Porthcurno beach, Completed sections of the SW Coast Path walk, notably from Lizard Point to Kynance Cove along the Lizard peninsula, from Boscastle to Tintagel and Lands End to Porthcurno Beach, taking in a performance at the Minack Theatre along the way. I went on the Godolphin Hill walk and explored Trengwainton gardens, and not to forget the scenic St Erth to St Ives Train ride.

Helston is a town and civil parish in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Helston is situated at the northern end of the Lizard Peninsula approximately 12 miles east of Penzance and 9 miles south-west of Falmouth.
Helston is the most southerly town on the island of Great Britain and is around 1.5 miles (2.4 km) farther south than Penzance. The former stannary and cattle market town is best known for the annual Furry Dance (known locally as the Flora Dance), said to originate from the medieval period. However, the Hal-an-Tow is reputed to be of Celtic origin. The song, and music, associated with the Furry Dance is known to have been written in 1911. In 2001, Helston celebrated the 800th anniversary of the granting of its Charter.
Helston is situated along the banks of the River Cober in Cornwall. Downstream is Cornwall's largest natural lake Loe Pool, formed when a shingle bar blocked the mouth of the river by rising sea levels forming a barrier beach. To the south is the Lizard Peninsula, an area important for its complex geology and wildlife habitats.
Helston is on the A394 road. To the west, the A394 leads to Penzance; to the north-east it leads to Penryn where it joins the A39, which leads south to Falmouth and north-east to Truro. The B3297 runs north from Helston to Redruth.
The nearest railway station is Redruth on the Cornish main line, although the Helston branch line railway served the town until closure in the early 1960s. The branch left the ex-GWR main line at Gwinear Road station near Hayle, and ran 8.5 miles (13.7 km) south to terminate at Helston railway station. The Helston Railway Preservation Company is undertaking the restoration of part of the line. Bus services now link Helston to the rail network; First South West provides the (34) bus service from Redruth station to Helston as well as other services to nearby towns and the Lizard peninsula.
Flora Day occurs annually, on 8 May (except when the date falls on a Sunday or Monday — Monday being Market Day — when it is the preceding Saturday) Helston hosts the Furry Dance. Helston Town Band has a rich history, which can be traced back to the turn of the 20th century. Indeed, there are members of the current band whose family connections extend back four generations.
Helston is also the birthplace of Bob Ruby Robert Fitzsimmons, the first triple world boxing champion. The house where he was born and lived in Helston is still standing and is indicated by a plaque above the door. The Helston Museum, founded in 1949, occupies the building originally designed as the town's Market House in 1837, with two separate buildings—one for butter and eggs, the other the meat market.
There are three Cornish crosses in Helston: one in Cross Street and two in Mr. Baddeley's garden (Cross Street). One of the latter crosses was removed from Tresprison, Wendron, and other from near Trelill Holy Well, Wendron. The Grylls Monument, at the end of Coinagehall Street was built by public subscription in 1834 to thank Humphry Millet Grylls. Helston also hosts The Flambards Experience, formerly the Helston Aero Park, which is a theme park with a selection of rides together with a few remaining aviation exhibits. Nearby Wendron is home to the Poldark Mine theme park, where visitors can go underground into the old workings.

HELSTON Walking Tour - Cornwall's handsomest town? 4K video
A walk around the beautiful old streets of Helston in West Cornwall. As you can see from the number of fine Georgian properties around the town this was a place of some wealth back in the 1700s and 1800s. Whilst much of this money will have come from mining and Helston's status as a stannary town, the town was thriving long before this.
It is hard to believe now but Helston was once a thriving port. However, the river Cober silted up some time in the depths of history and today isn't much more than a trickle..
For me the highlights of Helston are the wonderfully well preserved Georgian buildings which line Church Street and Cross Street, although the Blue Anchor pub deserves a mention, as does its mind-bendingly strong in-house ale - Spingo (yes I know I spelled this wrong in the subtitles!)

Porthleven is a town, civil parish and fishing port near Helston in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is the most southerly port on the island of Great Britain, and was originally developed as a harbour of refuge, when this part of the Cornish coastline was recognised as a black spot for wrecks in days of sail. Nearby Loe Bar was particularly infamous, with swimmers and surfers being warned off the area to this day. Porthleven has many large areas of social and council housing. An electoral ward called Porthleven and Helston South also exists.
Discover Porthleven – an online museum – was created in 2015 as an ongoing community project. Its aim is to record all Porthleven's history. Large amounts of images and text are being received from around the world as well as from local residents. Once up to date it is hoped to start recording history in the making as tomorrow makes today history. The museum also has a large pictorial display at Out of the Blue Porthleven.
Historically and for local government purposes, Porthleven was included within the town boundaries of nearby Helston. After years of growth, it now has its own town council. Until 1844 Porthleven was within the parish of Sithney; the parish church of St Bartholomew was built in 1842. The name Porthleven is probably connected with St Elwen or Elwyn, whose chapel here existed before 1270.
Porthleven has exploited its location and exposure to powerful swells to become one of the best-known and highly regarded surfing spots in Britain. Waves, often exceeding 6.6 feet (2.0 m), break on the shallow reef that was shaped by blasting the harbour. Due to the prevailing westerly winds it was very easy for a ship under sail to get trapped in the bay and be cast up on the rocks at the small fishing coves of Mullion, Kynance and the Lizard.
Porthleven's most recognisable building is the Bickford-Smith Institute next to the pier and harbour entrance. With a tower about 70 feet (20 metres) high, it looks like a church but currently is used as a snooker club and houses the town council offices. It featured (along with various other scenes from the town) as the incident room in an episode of the TV detective series Wycliffe. A picture of the building against a large breaking wave sometimes appears in the background of BBC UK weather forecasts, particularly when windy conditions and rough seas are expected.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution stationed a lifeboat at Porthleven in 1863. A boat house was built at Breageside from where the boat was taken to the water on a carriage. A new boat house on the west side of the harbour entrance was opened in 1894 with a slipway to make launching easier. The station was closed in 1929 as the neighbouring stations at The Lizard and Penlee had been equipped with motor lifeboats that could cover the whole of Mount's Bay. The slipway was dismantled and the boat house was used as a store for a while but has since become the Shipwreck Centre museum.
Porthleven beach lies to the east of the town adjacent to the harbour and near Porthleven village centre. RNLI lifeguards patrol it during the holiday season. The beach is separated from the harbour by a granite pier, which stands in front of the Porthleven institute and clock tower. When the tide is out it is possible to walk in an easterly direction along Porthleven beach for approximately three miles. There is also a coastal path with views of the beach below.
Surfing is very popular at Porthleven and nearby Praa Sands. Porthleven has been described as Cornwall's best reefbreak. Kayaking is also popular due to the slipway from within the harbour and access via surrounding beaches. Porthleven Bowling Club is based at Gala Park, Methleigh Parc in Helston. It is affiliated to Bowls Cornwall and Bowls England. The club was founded in 1959 and has lawn bowling and short-mat bowls facilities.

A picture of the building against a large breaking wave sometimes appears in the background of BBC UK weather forecasts, particularly when windy conditions and rough seas are expected.
The Royal National Lifeboat Institution stationed a lifeboat at Porthleven in 1863. A boat house was built at Breageside from where the boat was taken to the water on a carriage. A new boat house on the west side of the harbour entrance was opened in 1894 with a slipway to make launching easier. The station was closed in 1929 as the neighbouring stations at The Lizard and Penlee had been equipped with motor lifeboats that could cover the whole of Mount's Bay. The slipway was dismantled and the boat house was used as a store for a while but has since become the Shipwreck Centre museum.
Porthleven beach lies to the east of the town adjacent to the harbour and near Porthleven village centre. RNLI lifeguards patrol it during the holiday season. The beach is separated from the harbour by a granite pier, which stands in front of the Porthleven institute and clock tower. When the tide is out it is possible to walk in an easterly direction along Porthleven beach for approximately three miles. There is also a coastal path with views of the beach below.
Surfing is very popular at Porthleven and nearby Praa Sands. Porthleven has been described as Cornwall's best reefbreak. Kayaking is also popular due to the slipway from within the harbour and access via surrounding beaches. Porthleven Bowling Club is based at Gala Park, Methleigh Parc in Helston. It is affiliated to Bowls Cornwall and Bowls England. The club was founded in 1959 and has lawn bowling and short-mat bowls facilities.

Porthleven is a town, civil parish and fishing port near Helston in Cornwall, United Kingdom. It is the most southerly port on the island of Great Britain, and was originally developed as a harbour of refuge, when this part of the Cornish coastline was recognised as a black spot for wrecks in days of sail. Nearby Loe Bar was particularly infamous, with swimmers and surfers being warned off the area to this day. Porthleven has many large areas of social and council housing. An electoral ward called Porthleven and Helston South also exists.
Discover Porthleven – an online museum – was created in 2015 as an ongoing community project. Its aim is to record all Porthleven's history. Large amounts of images and text are being received from around the world as well as from local residents. Once up to date it is hoped to start recording history in the making as tomorrow makes today history. The museum also has a large pictorial display at Out of the Blue Porthleven.
Historically and for local government purposes, Porthleven was included within the town boundaries of nearby Helston. After years of growth, it now has its own town council. Until 1844 Porthleven was within the parish of Sithney; the parish church of St Bartholomew was built in 1842. The name Porthleven is probably connected with St Elwen or Elwyn, whose chapel here existed before 1270.
Porthleven has exploited its location and exposure to powerful swells to become one of the best-known and highly regarded surfing spots in Britain. Waves, often exceeding 6.6 feet (2.0 m), break on the shallow reef that was shaped by blasting the harbour. Due to the prevailing westerly winds it was very easy for a ship under sail to get trapped in the bay and be cast up on the rocks at the small fishing coves of Mullion, Kynance and the Lizard.
Porthleven's most recognisable building is the Bickford-Smith Institute next to the pier and harbour entrance. With a tower about 70 feet (20 metres) high, it looks like a church but currently is used as a snooker club and houses the town council offices. It featured (along with various other scenes from the town) as the incident room in an episode of the TV detective series Wycliffe.
