Hiroshima
City in Japan
Hiroshima, a modern city on Japan’s Honshu Island, was largely destroyed by an atomic bomb during World War II. Today, Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park commemorates the 1945 event. In the park are the ruins of Genbaku Dome, one of the few buildings that was left standing near ground zero. Other prominent sites include Shukkei-en, a formal Japanese garden, and Hiroshima Castle, a fortress surrounded by a moat and a park. ― Google

Hiroshima In A Day: Miyajima | Japan Travel Guide

Japan travel guide to what to do and eat in Miyajima, Hiroshima in a day!

Hiroshima is near the bottom of the main island Honshu and a must visit when coming to Hiroshima is the island Itsukushima, more popularly known as Miyajima. It’s one of Japan’s top 3 scenic sights, most famous for its giant torii gate, which at high tide seems to float on the water.

Miyajima island is also a great place for a day trip from the Kansai region like Kyoto and Osaka but I would recommend staying in Hiroshima for a few days to explore Hiroshima city and another day for Miyajima island.

I started my trip off at Hiroshima station and took a 25 minute train ride to JR Miyajima-guchi station.

From there it’s less than a 5 minute walk to the ferry terminal where you will take a 10 minute ferry ride to go to Miyajima island.

Places visited:
Itsukushima Shrine and the “floating tori gate”
Omotesando Shopping Street
Momiji Bridge
Daisho-in Temple
Senjokaku and the 5 story Pagoda

This Is Why You MUST VISIT Hiroshima | Top Attractions In The City of Peace

Hiroshima is a very important place to visit in Japan. Most people know that it was here that the first atomic bomb was dropped in WWII creating unimaginable devastation. Decades later, Hiroshima has now rebuilt and become a beacon of hope and education towards abolishing nuclear weapons. While of course the main reason to visit this city is to pay your respects to the victims of this tragedy and visit all the exhibits of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park, there is also many other things to see and do. Join me as I tour around the city seeing some of the other attractions on offer, tasting some amazing local food and seeing how Hiroshima has transformed since the last time I was here! xx

The travel health insurance I use - PassportCard Nomads:

*I highly recommend this travel health insurance because you don't have to pay out of pocket for your medical expenses and they have very reasonably priced long term plans. You can buy the packages for shorter trips as well, but they're especially fantastic for digital nomads and nomads who want regular health insurance when they are abroad. I am an affiliate of this company, but of course use the plans myself.

THE MOST MAGICAL ISLAND IN JAPAN | Miyajima Travel Guide

When visiting Hiroshima, it is a MUST to visit the incredible island of Miyajima, known as the 'Island Where God Lives'. From the cute deer who are waiting to welcome you as soon as your arrive, to the delicious traditional restaurants and shops on Omote Sando Street, to the jaw dropping views you get from the top of Mt Misen, there is something for everyone on this beautiful island. Ideally I would recommend staying overnight at a local Ryokan, but a day trip is also a great way to visit, just make sure you leave quite early in the morning if you plan on climbing up and down the mountain. Hope you enjoy the video! xx

The MOST Beautiful Place in Japan | Itsukushima Miyajima Island, Hiroshima Japan

When we decided to move to Japan, visiting Miyajima Island to see Itsukushima Shrine was on the top of my list. It’s on all the postcards for a reason, right? Miyajima Island is SO MUCH MORE than the shrine. The hiking is beautiful, the views are breathtaking and the vegan options are delicious! I'd like to live here.

If you're considering or currently planning your visit to Japan, I highly recommend the JR National or Regional rail passes. They're affordable, easy to use and often cheaper than purchasing individual Shinkansen and JR train tickets during your trip. Bonus: once it's activated you won't have to stand in line to purchase train tickets.
