Welcome to the enchanting tapestry of St Albans, a city that whispers tales of Roman glory and medieval majesty through its cobblestone streets and ancient structures.
Let's turn back the clock to around 50 AD, when this vibrant city was known as Verulamium, a Roman settlement boasting grandeur that would make even Julius Caesar raise an eyebrow. Verulamium was the real deal – a bustling hub with theaters echoing laughter, forums buzzing with debate, and Roman bathhouses where citizens soaked away their worries.
Fast forward to the 3rd century, and meet the legendary St. Alban. This chap wasn't your average Joe; he sheltered a Christian priest, sealing his fate as Britain's first Christian martyr. The city, grateful for his sacrifice, adopted his name – St Albans. Imagine a Roman superhero origin story, but with togas instead of capes.

Historic Whitechapel Walking Tour: Uncovering the Hidden Gems of East London (4K)
Join me on a journey through the streets of Whitechapel, one of London's most vibrant and storied areas. Our East London walking tour begins at Petticoat Lane, a bustling market dating back to the 1600s now known for its lively atmosphere and diverse range of goods. From there, we'll make our way to Wentworth Street once the heart of the Jewish East End and still a weekday market and centre of textile shops.
As we continue our walk, we'll visit Commercial Street, where we'll see Toynbee Hall, a social reform centre that has played a crucial role in the development of the area. From there, we'll head to East Tenter Street, where we'll see the impressive St George's German Church dating from 1720.
Next, we'll make our way to Commercial Road then to the site of the original White Church that gives Whitechapel its name. From there, we'll visit the iconic Whitechapel Bell Foundry, a historic business that has been casting bells since the 1570s and the site of Whitechapel Fort, one of London's Civil War defences. The Harold Wood Residential Area Is The Place To Be In London!
Harold Wood is a suburban neighbourhood of Romford in the London Borough of Havering. It is situated 16.5 miles (26.6 km) east-northeast of Charing Cross and near to the Greater London boundary with. The East End of London, often referred to within the London area simply as the East End, is the historic core of wider East London, east of the Roman and medieval walls of the City of London and north of the River Thames. It does not have universally accepted boundaries to the north and east, though the River Lea is sometimes seen as the eastern boundary. Parts of it may be regarded as lying within Central London (though that term too has no precise definition).
The East End began to emerge in the Middle Ages with initially slow urban growth outside the eastern walls, which later accelerated, especially in the 19th the fully urbanised Tower Division became a byword for wider East London, before East London grew further still, east of the River Lea and into Essex.

Places to see in ( Romford - UK )
Romford is a large town in East London, England, and the administrative centre of the London Borough of Havering. Romford is located 14.1 miles northeast of Charing Cross and is one of the major metropolitan centres identified in the London Plan. Romford was historically a market town in the county of Essex and formed the administrative centre of the liberty of Havering, until it was dissolved in 1892. Good road links and the opening of the railway station in 1839 were key to the development of the town and the economic history of Romford is underpinned by a shift from agriculture to light industry and then to retail and commerce.
As part of the suburban growth of London in the 20th century, Romford significantly expanded and increased in population, becoming a municipal borough in 1937 and has formed part of Greater London since 1965. Romford now forms one of the largest commercial, retail, entertainment and leisure districts outside central London
Romford centre is for the most part contained within a ring road formed of St Edwards Way, Mercury Gardens, Thurloe Gardens, Oldchurch Road and Waterloo Road. The market place and much of South Street and the High Street are pedestrianised. The railway cuts through the town from east to west on a viaduct, with the bulk of the central Romford area to its north. The River Rom flows through the town in underground channels and joins the Thames after flowing through Hornchurch; elsewhere along its course it is known as the River Beam and forms part of the strategic waterways Blue Ribbon Network.
Romford has formed part of the continuously built-up area of London since the 1930s and is contiguous with Rush Green to the west, Collier Row to the north, Gidea Park to the east and Hornchurch to the south east. The Romford post town covers all of the former municipal borough and extends over a much wider area, including parts of Barking and Dagenham and Epping Forest.

Subscribe and leave a comment. This is the complete journey, exploring the area between Sheffield and Romford. At some point Google took me on a weird route from Ardleigh Green to Nelmes Way, to Woodlands Ave and back onto Adleigh Green Road. Why did it do that? I have no idea, it was completely unnecessary. Once it took me onto the motorway even though I had clearly selected the bicycle route.
Harold Wood Station 8/10/20
Harold Wood Station is located on the TFL Rail line out of London Liverpool Street towards Shenfield and will soon be part of the Crossrail network. Before the network was part of the TFL Rail, it was managed and operated to by Greater Anglia who operated most other services throughout the East End of London and into Essex.
Typically trains operate at a frequency of every 10 minutes in each direction with the addition of extra services at Peak times which can means there is a service roughly every 5 minutes at some stops.
The line as it is now runs services between Shenfield and London Liverpool Street however this is set to change with the opening of Crossrail which would see services start at Shenfield and head all the way to Reading via a Underground section of railway under central London, at this point these services will no longer serve London Liverpool Street.
Services are now mostly operated by new state of the art Class 345 units which will continue to be used when the whole Corssrail Line opens, these units are going to replace BREL Class 315 Electric Multiple Units which had been used since the early 80's to operate services.

Romford - London Borough of Havering
The London LOOP: Harold Wood to Upminster Bridge 31 July 2020
Its a short walk- only 4.25 miles- but an interesting one along the London Loop long distance footpath., between Harold Wood and Upminster Bridge tube station. For much of the way, the walk follows the lovely River Ingrebourne. This walk took place in warm, sunny weather on Friday 31 July 2020.
Elizabeth Line Full Opening: HAROLD WOOD - BRENTWOOD
Tomorrow sees the introduction of the new Elizabeth line timetable that will finally see Shenfield services run through the central tunnels and out the other side to Heathrow Airport. It's been a real journey seeing the progression of the Elizabeth line, from this section being operated under the name TFL Rail from 2015, to these trains being introduced, and it's now finally complete.
Enjoy a short journey on the Elizabeth line from Harold Wood, Zone 6, to Brentwood, Zone 9, skipping two zones in the process. I feel it's a little unfair that Shenfield just misses out on the 9 zones, making journeys more expensive for that one stop. It's similar to how Watford High Street is Zone 8, and despite the close distance, Watford Junction stingingly isn't Zone 9.

We head to the GEML out of London Liverpool Street to capture the now replaced Class 315 units which for a time operated the TFL Rail network before it was all handed over to Crossrail we also capture some classic traction too!
We are diving back through the archives to see how much footage we had recorded but never was used so please don't mind the sporadic placing of the videos at the moment!
