From Wikipedia:
Hagerstown /ˈheɪɡərztaʊn/ HAY-gərz-town is a city in Washington County, Maryland, United States and the county seat of Washington County. The population of Hagerstown city proper at the 2020 census was 43,527, and the population of the Hagerstown metropolitan area (extending into West Virginia) was 269,140. Hagerstown ranks as Maryland's sixth-largest incorporated city and is the largest city in the Panhandle.

Hagerstown has a distinct topography, formed by stone ridges running from northeast to southwest through the center of town. Geography accordingly bounds its neighborhoods. These ridges consist of upper Stonehenge limestone. Many of the older buildings were built from this stone, which is easily quarried and dressed onsite. It whitens in weathering and the edgewise conglomerate and wavy laminae become distinctly visible, giving a handsome and uniquely Cumberland Valley appearance. Several of Hagerstown's churches are constructed of Stonehenge limestone. Its value and beauty as building rock may be seen particularly in St. John's Episcopal Church on West Antietam Street and the Presbyterian Church at the corner of Washington and Prospect Streets. Brick and concrete eventually displaced this native stone in the construction process.

Hagerstown anchors the Hagerstown metropolitan area, which lies just northwest of the Washington–Baltimore–Northern Virginia, DC–MD–VA–WV Combined Statistical Area in the heart of the Great Appalachian Valley. The population of the metropolitan area in 2010 was 269,140. Greater Hagerstown is the fastest-growing metropolitan area in the state of Maryland and among the fastest growing in the United States, as of 2009.

Despite its semi-rural Western Maryland setting, Hagerstown is a center of transit and commerce. Interstates 81 and 70, CSX, Norfolk Southern, and the Winchester and Western railroads, and Hagerstown Regional Airport form an extensive transportation network for the city. Hagerstown is also the chief commercial and industrial hub for a greater Tri-State Area that includes much of Western Maryland as well as significant portions of South Central Pennsylvania and the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. Hagerstown has often been referred to as, and is nicknamed, the Hub City. A person born in Hagerstown is officially called a Hagerstonian.

Harpers Ferry, WV - Most Beautiful Town in the US?

Another contender for the most beautiful town in the USA. Visiting the small 19th century town of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia is literally like stepping through a time portal and walking into history. It's been immaculately preserved or in some cases, reconstructed. It's super small, with less than 300 full time residents, but there's plenty to see and do. Just walking around town and seeing the beautiful architecture, shops, and restaurant is fun enough, but the nature in Harpers Ferry is also amazing!

It's located at approximately the halfway point of the Appalachian Trail and there's hikes all around town. You can hike to get views overlooking the town and it's amazing to see from above. It's located at the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah rivers and is surrounded by rocky cliffs, and both a car bridge over the river and a railroad trestle. Kayaking and rafting the river is another popular pastime in the area.

It's also located right where three states meet, Maryland, West Virginia, and Virginia. But only the lovely, underrated state of West Virginia really gets to claim this charming gem. Another thing I love about Harpers Ferry is that it's beautiful to visit in any season.

If you haven't been to visit yet, I highly recommend it. It's a must do for anyone traveling on the east coast.

Walk with me on a sub-zero winter day (19 °F, or -7 °C) through Hagerstown, Maryland. Hagerstown lies right below the Pennsylvania border and is the 6th largest city in Maryland. Historically, Hagerstown's economy was driven by manufacturing and blue-collar jobs which is reflected today on it's hard-working people and myriad of service businesses. U.S. Route 11 or U.S. Highway 11 (US-11) is a major north–south United States Numbered Highway extending 1,645 miles (2,647 km) across the eastern U.S. The southern terminus of the route is at US 90 in Bayou Sauvage National Wildlife Refuge in eastern New Orleans, Louisiana. The northern terminus is at the Rouses Point–Lacolle 223 Border Crossing in Rouses Point, New York. The route continues across the border into Canada as Route 223. US 11, created in 1926, maintains most of its original route. The route north of Knoxville, Tennessee, follows a route similar to Interstate 81 (I-81). While it is signed as a north–south route, it physically travels in a northeast–southwest direction. Until 1929, US 11 ended just south of Picayune, Mississippi, at the Pearl River border with Louisiana. It was extended through Louisiana after that. The Maestri Bridge, which carries US 11 across Lake Pontchartrain, served as the only route to New Orleans from the east for six weeks after Hurricane Katrina due to its sturdy construction. The storm virtually destroyed the I-10 Twin Span Bridge and damaged the Fort Pike Bridge on US 90. I-81, constructed in the 1960s, parallels the route of US 11 in many areas. Beyond I-81's southern terminus, other Interstates run along corridors paralleling US 11, specifically I-59, which is joined to I-81 by I-40, I-75, and I-24.
