The Place Restaurant, Guilford, Connecticut, USA - TravelMedia.ie

The Place Restaurant, Guilford, Connecticut, USA. Gary Knowles, speaks with Michael Collins of TravelMedia.ie.
The Place Restaurant, 901 Boston Post Rd. Guilford, CT 06437.

From The Place Restaurant website:
The Place Restaurant is a truly unusual outdoor seafood restaurant in Guilford CT where visitors dine outdoors while a crackling wood fire roasts savory clams, smoky lobsters, sweet corn and much more. Instead of chairs, tree stumps encircle bright red tables, decorated with a bottle of freshly cut flowers. One large menu towers over the dining area, allowing all to see their options as smiling waitstaff come to take their order.

Aer Lingus fly direct from Dublin Ireland to Hartford Connecticut, from October 2016.

Video transcript:
- - Place Restaurant is from a concept started back in the 1940s by a clam digger who decided he would sell clams on the side of the road and start cooking them on an open fire. And he proceeded to do that in the 1950s and into the 1960s when my brother and I were in high school. In college we worked for the man. And after he left the business, being school teachers, we decided we needed summer employment for ourselves and we loved the restaurant business, always had worked in restaurants. And so we opened the Place Restaurant and we've been going ever since. - [Interviewer] So you're doing something right. What do you reckon it is that brings people back again and again? - Very natural surrounding, very simply prepared food, but the food is ultimately what brings people here. The roast clam special on the fire cannot be matched anywhere. We're an institution in our own right. We've been on the Travel Channel and Cooking Channel so we draw people from all over the world.

New Haven, CT - 10 fun things to do

Part college town, part foodie oasis, part artist’s sanctuary, part history-buff heaven - there’s something for everyone to discover in New Haven.
Yale University brings brick and ivy, along with more than 10,000 college and graduate students every year, to the city in its sprawling campus. The university also offers endless cultural opportunities. Yale’s Art Gallery hosts works by the likes of Wassily Kandinsky and Mark Rothko. Students from university’s drama school regularly host productions at the Yale Repertory Theater.
Off campus, New Haven offers its residents a plethora of dining and entertainment options. The birthplace of the hamburger and American-style pizza, properly called apizza, New Haven has a great variety of high-end dining and ethnic eateries. Enjoy nationally-recognized Spanish tapas at Olea or head to Little Italy near Wooster Square to try out the unique apizza for yourself. Taste of New Haven even offers several weekly restaurant and bar tours so you can get a little taste of everything New Haven has to offer.
Entertainment is in no short supply in New Haven, as well, with many arts, theater and music spots in the city. Artspace, a warehouse of mini-galleries, anchors the arts district in New Haven, but there are many other former warehouses that have become artists’ studios. Beyond student theater, the historic Shubert Theater has a robust history and once premiered many theatrical productions even before Broadway. And there’s Criterion Cinemas for both popular and independent films. New Haven has a vibrant alternative music scene, as well, with small venues regularly holding concerts in the city.
If history is your thing, you won’t need to walk much beyond the New Haven Green in the heart of the city. There are three churches open for viewing on the Green, including the Center Church where you can even tour the basement crypt which dates back to the early 1800s. The Beinecke Rare Book & Manuscript Library even houses an original Gutenberg Bible. Also on the Green are annual jazz and music festivals for everyone to enjoy.
The City and region are experiencing a surge in economic development. People are enjoying New Haven for its culture, restaurants and nigh life. This renaissance has spurred many new housing and shopping projects making the downtown a great place to live and work.

Places to see in ( Greensboro - USA )

Greensboro is a city in North Carolina. The Greensboro Science Center houses red pandas, sharks and a hands-on museum. Nearby, Guilford Courthouse National Military Park has displays on the American Revolution. Video re-enactments and interactive exhibits trace the civil rights struggle at the International Civil Rights Center & Museum. The Bog Garden is a wetlands area with flowers, birds and an elevated boardwalk.

In 1808, Greensborough (the spelling before 1895) was planned around a central courthouse square to succeed Guilford Court House as the county seat. The county courts were thus placed closer to the geographical center of the county, a location more easily reached at the time by the majority of the county's citizens, who depended on horse and foot for travel. It is named after Nathanael Greene, a Patriot general who fought a battle here during the Revolutionary War. Population is about 250,000. The famous author William Sydney Porter, better known as O. Henry, was born here. It can be sleepy and genteel but is enjoying a newfound reputation as a great place for young people. Downtown especially is experiencing a surfeit of bars, music venues and restaurants.

Among Greensboro's many notable attractions, some of the most popular include the Wet 'n Wild Emerald Pointe water park, the Greensboro Science Center, the International Civil Rights Museum, the Weatherspoon Art Museum, the Greensboro Symphony, the Greensboro Ballet, Triad Stage, the Wyndham Golf Championship, the headquarters of the Atlantic Coast Conference, the Greensboro Coliseum Complex which hosts various sporting events, concerts, and other events, the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic Baseball League, the Carolina Dynamo of the Premier Development Soccer League, the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G League, the Greensboro Roller Derby, and the National Folk Festival.

Greensboro is located among the rolling hills of North Carolina's Piedmont, situated midway between the state's Blue Ridge and Great Smoky Mountains to the west and the Atlantic beaches and Outer Banks to the east. The view of the city from its highest building—the Lincoln Financial tower (commonly known as the Jefferson-Pilot Building after its previous owner)—shows an expanse of shade trees in the city. Downtown Greensboro has attracted development investment in recent years with such new construction as Yadkin Bank Park, and residential and offices. The Southside neighborhood downtown exemplifies central-city reinvestment. The Four Seasons Town Centre is a three-story shopping mall with 1,141,000 square feet (106,000 m2) of shopping space. The Greensboro Coliseum is located at 1921 W. Gate City Boulevard. This multi-purpose complex consists of the 22,000-seat Greensboro Coliseum.

Connecticut is the southernmost state in the New England district of the northeastern United States. Connecticut is flanked by Rhode Island toward the east, Massachusetts toward the north, New York toward the west, and Long Island Sound toward the south. In spite of the fact that Connecticut is actually part of New England, it is regularly assembled alongside New York and New Jersey as the Tri-state range. The state is named for the Connecticut River, a noteworthy U.S. stream that roughly cuts up the state. Connecticut is gotten from different anglicized spellings of an Algonquian word for long tidal river.

Guilford, CT - Gem of the Shoreline - trailer

Guilford is a quintessential New England town nestled along the lower Connecticut shoreline. Its location on the Long

Island Sound, a strong sense of community, and healthy balance between economic development and historic and cultural

preservation, make it an ideal day trip or vacation spot. Among other things, Guilford boasts the largest, and what we

consider to be the best town green in New England. Along its perimeter are some of the town's most beautiful historic

homes, churches, quaint shopping, fine restaurants and art galleries. This video includes a short visit to their five musems, a

tour by sea, a trip to Faulkner's Island and visiting seals in the harbor in January.
