Sissinghurst Castle Garden (April 2022)

Join us for a trip to Sissinghurst Castle Garden, a National Trust property in Kent (England).

We visited the tea room, wandered round the gardens to see the spring flowers, climbed the tower, had some lunch in one of the picnic areas and then went on one of the shorter estate walks past the lakes and through the woods to see the bluebells. It was a sunny day but as you'll hear from the audio it was also quite breezy!

Places to see in ( Warrington - UK )

Warrington is a large town and unitary authority area in Cheshire, England, on the banks of the River Mersey, 20 miles east of Liverpool, and 20 miles west of Manchester. Warrington is the largest town in the county of Cheshire.

Warrington was founded by the Romans at an important crossing place on the River Mersey. A new settlement was established by the Saxons. By the Middle Ages, Warrington had emerged as a market town at the lowest bridging point of the river. A local tradition of textile and tool production dates from this time.

Historically in Lancashire, the expansion and urbanisation of Warrington coincided with the Industrial Revolution, particularly after the Mersey was made navigable in the 18th century. The West Coast Main Line runs north to south through the town, and the Liverpool to Manchester railway (the Cheshire Lines route) west to east. The Manchester Ship Canal cuts through the south of the borough (west to east). The M6, M56 and M62 motorways form a partial box around the town.

The modern Borough of Warrington was formed in 1974 with the amalgamation of the former County Borough of Warrington, part of the Golborne Urban District, the Lymm Urban District, part of the Runcorn Rural District, the Warrington Rural District and part of the Whiston Rural District.

The Borough of Warrington is bordered by Halton, Cheshire West and Chester, and Cheshire East boroughs in the Ceremonial County of Cheshire and by the metropolitan boroughs of Trafford, Salford and Wigan in Greater Manchester and St. Helens in Merseyside. Warrington Borough Transport, trading as Network Warrington, one of the few municipal bus companies to survive in public ownership, runs most bus services within the town.

Getting Frozen Fever at Arley Hall and Gardens | Cheshire, England

After many beautiful (and some very foggy) walks over the month of November we were up for a bit of a change so this week we visited the gorgeous gardens of Arley House in Cheshire! With it's stunning formal gardens taken right out of an Alice in Wonderland set, a cozy cafe for a hot drink on a winters day and a windy woodland walk there is something to see and do for everyone at Arley Hall! As it's Christmas they also have lots of facts dotted around the grounds including quite an interesting amount about the film Frozen! Enjoy!

St Wilfrids Walking Day and Summer Fair 2018 - Grappenhall Village

Places to see in ( Tarporley - UK )

Places to see in ( Tarporley - UK )

Tarporley is a large village and civil parish in Cheshire, England. It is bypassed by the A49 and A51 roads, and holds a regular country market on the first Saturday of each month. Tarporley civil parish also contains the village of Rhuddall Heath. Since 2009 it forms part of the unitary authority district of Cheshire West and Chester.

Tarporley High Street features four pubs: the Foresters Arms, the Swan Hotel, the Crown Hotel, and the Rising Sun. The High Street is also home to four restaurants: Piste, The Coast Restaurant and Bar, Little Tap, and STREET Tarporley. The Tarporley Hunt Club, the oldest surviving hunt club in England, meets in the village every Christmas.

The Urban District of Tarporley was created in 1894 and was abolished in 1936. From 1936 until 1974 Tarporley was a part of the Rural District of Northwich, until that district's abolition as a result of the Local Government Act 1972. From 1 April 1974 Tarporley formed part of the borough of Vale Royal, within Cheshire and was included in the new unitary authority of Cheshire West and Chester on 1 April 2009. The village has civil parish status and its own parish council, giving it some limited local government autonomy. The parish council comprises 12 locally elected members.

Tarporley is bypassed by the A49 and A51 roads. The village was once served by Beeston Castle and Tarporley railway station on the Chester to Crewe main line, more than two miles from the village; the line remains open but the station closed in April 1966. A local bus service, route 84, is provided by Arriva.
