City in Japan
Aomori is the capital city of Aomori Prefecture, in the Tōhoku region of Japan. As of 1 June 2019, the city had an estimated population of 276,567 in 136,209 households, and a population density of 335 persons per km². The city is one of Japan's 48 core cities. The total area of the city was 824.61 square kilometers.
Aomori is located in central Aomori Prefecture, on a plain between the southern end of Aomori Bay, which it faces to the north and the Hakkōda Mountains to the south. Among other smaller rivers, the city has two large rivers flowing through it, the Komagome River and it's tributary, the Arakawa River.

'Resort Shirakami' lovely landscape trip / from Akita to Goshogawara
The Resort Shirakami runs on the Gono line through the stunning seaside scenery of Shirakami-Sanchi, a World Heritage Site. In 2018, Shirakami-Sanchi celebrated its 25th year since its registration as a World Heritage Site.
This time, I reserved a compartment. It's very nice and comfottable !

Amazing Aomori, Japan in Winter
Aomori prefecture is located in the northernmost area of Honshū island and is the home of Natural World Heritage sites such as Shirakamisanchi, Towada Lakeand Hakkōda, Mount Iwaki, the Hotokegaura Gulf of the Shimokita Peninsulaand other places with amazing natural landscapes, which make this region one of the most beautiful parts of Japan.
Winters in Aomori are very cold, and the region is known as one of the few places with heavy snowfall in Japan. But that doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t go to Aomori in winter! There are actually seafood dishes that can be tasted only during the cold season, as well as amusements that can be enjoyed only when it is snowing. We have selected four activities that you can only enjoy in Aomori during winter.

Riding Japan's Stove Train in Heavy Snow | Tsugaru Railway Aomori
The stove train, which runs between Goshogawara Station and Tsugaru-Nakasato Station in Aomori Prefecture and opened in 1930, is the northernmost private railway in Japan. Available only from December 1st to March 31st each year, passengers can enjoy the snowy landscape visible from the train while warming up by the stove, and savor Japanese sake and dried squid.

The 3 Great Summer Festivals of North Japan
The official 3 great festivals of Northern Tohoku are Tanabata, Kanto, and Nebuta, not Sansa, Kanto, and Nebuta... but Tanabata is just decorations with no events or even festival music, so I'm intentionally replacing it.... (Take that, Sendai!)
(Also- I should have specified these are the biggest for Northern Tohoku, not all of north Japan, as Yamagata and Fukushima, which are in southern Tohoku, have some pretty major ones as well. Hope to get down there for some of those next year!)

아오모리현 서쪽의 작은 도시 고쇼가와라. 고쇼가와라가 자랑하는 ‘타치네푸타’ 전시관을 찾았다. ‘타치네푸타’란 ‘서있는 등불인형’이란 뜻으로, 아오모리현의 다양한 등불 인형축제 중 하나다. 직접 보니, 인형들을 보관하기위해 이 건물을 지었다는 말이 이해된다. 네푸타는 악령을 멀리 쫓아버리기 위해 행해졌던 아오모리의 전통축제다. 그중 고쇼가와라에선 높이 20미터의 인형을 100명의 젊은이들이 짊어지고 거리를 행진했다고 한다. 전선의 보급으로 점차 작아져 4미터까지 줄어들었다가, 10년 전 22미터의 거대 인형을 복원시킨 일이 큰 화제를 모아 이후 전국적인 축제로 발전되었다. 인형 얼굴을 제대로 보기 위해선 엘리베이터를 타고 올라야한다. 4층부터 전시물을 보면서 복도를 따라 내려간다. 8월 초에 열리는 거리축제에 참여하지 못한 아쉬움은 사진으로 달랜다. 금붕어 모양의 네푸타는 행운을 비는 상징으로 가정이나 상점에서도 볼 수 있다. 역대 인형들 사진이 전시되어 있다. 다시 부활한 대형 인형을 위해 시내 중심가의 전선을 모두 지하에 매설했다고 한다. 이곳 말고도 아오모리현 각 지역의 네푸타를 비교해놓았다. 대표적인 것이 히로사키의 부채모양 네푸타, 아오모리의 거인 모양 네부타가 있다. ‘네부타’ 와 ‘네푸타’. 부르는 이름도 서로 다르다. 홈 어드벤티지일까? 이곳 타치네푸타가 상대적으로 너무 크다. 전시관 안에 제작소가 있어 만드는 모습을 볼 수도 있다. 철사로 틀을 짜고 종이를 일일이 붙인 다음에 색칠을 하는데, 6개월 동안의 제작비가 인건비를 빼고도 개당 1,500만 엔이라고 하니, 인형에 쏟는 정성이 상상을 초월한다.
