The Mura Statistical Region is a statistical region in the north-east of Slovenia. It is predominantly agricultural with field crops representing over three quarters of the total utilised agricultural area, twice as much as the Slovene average. Surprising Slovenia - relaxing slow travelling - 2019

3 days, 500 km, no highways, always raining, very relaxing, beautiful landscapes, lake, castles, mountains, snow, art. food and good company.

Maribor In Your Pocket - National Liberation Monument

Appropriately located in Trg Svobode ('Freedom Square'), this spherical bronze memorial pays tribute to those gunned down by the Nazis during World War II for rising up against occupation. By walking around the monument you can look at public announcements of the executions of the 667 people who were condemned to death by the German forces. Erected in 1975, the sculpture is the work of local artist Slavko Tihec, and despite its sombre purpose the good citizenry of Maribor have dubbed the monument 'Kojak' because of its resemblance to a bald head.
