Gwangju (Things to do - Places to Visit) - GWANGJU Top Tourist Places - City in South Korea

Gwangju is a city in the southwest corner of South Korea. It’s known for a pro-democracy uprising in 1980. The event is commemorated by the 5·18 Memorial Park, with tree-lined paths and dramatic bronze sculptures, and the 5·18 National Cemetery.
East, the craggy Mudeungsan Mountain National Park has striking rock formations. In the foothills, the rebuilt 6th-century Jeungsimsa Temple has a Silla-era stone pagoda.

Gongsanseong Fortress in Gongju, South Korea

This small vlog shows the fortress in Gongju built during the Baekje period around 500AD. It has been rebuilt and continues to be upgraded to its former glory. Gongsanseong fortress is recognized by Unesco as a world heritage site. Definitely worth a visit! I consider it a not-so-famous treasure in Korea.

Day trips to Gongju city | UNESCO sites, festivals, hanoks and more!

*This video contains footage filmed before the pandemic, all filming after January 2020 was conducted following social distancing guidelines*

Hello everyone!
This video focuses on one of our favourite day trip destinations that we go on once or twice a year. Gongju city is located in our province, South Chungcheong, and is home to several UNESCO World Heritage sites, a lovely hanok village, hosts wonderful festivals (when it is safe to do so) and always has delicious chestnut themed products!

Ove the past four years, we have been collecting footage of parts of our trips and this video is just a small part of the adventures we have had exploring Gongju city. Day trips look very different for us these days, we pack our own food, eat in our car or have quick snacks on hiking trails away from other people. We are fortunate that there are many outdoor sites that are open and safe to explore and are learning a lot about Korean history!

I hope as travel becomes safe people will get the opportunity to plan trips and visit Korea! Seoul is a wonderful and dynamic city but I highly recommend taking at least a day or two to go beyond the city limits and see some of the multifaceted sides of Korea.

[4K] What to visit in Korea? Gongsanseong fortress, UNESCO World Heritage site in Korea #9

Located in Gongju-si, Gongsanseong Fortress is a mountain castle which was established during the Baekje Period (234-678). The castle is about 2.5km long, and there are two ways of touring the castle. One way is to start from the parking lot, pass the west gate, Geumseoru, and walk along the cement road. The other way is to turn left at the beginning of the cement road and walk along the top of the castle, which is called Sanseong Road. The cement road is very smooth and you can walk along it comfortably. On the other hand, Sanseong Road has many twists and the passage is narrow, but it has the advantage of following along the Geumgang riverside.
When you begin the tour, the first site that you will meet is the Gongbukru, in front of the Sanseong village. From Gongbukru, follow the Sanseong Road, go over a low hill, and you will see Yeongeunsa, a small temple built in the 4th year of King Se-Jo’s reign. In front of the temple is Manharu and Yeonji, most elegant place of the fortress. Visitors can enjoy a breathtaking view of Geumgang riverside from there. Follow the trail path a little further up and Imryugak Pavilion appears, known as the largest of its kind within the fortress. You can get a glimpse of Geumgang River, but the trees may obstruct the open view of the scenery.
It is worth the visit for its historical and cultural significance, and also for the beautiful view of Geumgang riverside and the trail.

Gongju, Korea Vlog | Fortress, Ancient Tombs, Hanok Village, Baekje Festival and cafes

We spent a day exploring Gongju, South Korea. Gongju 공주시 is located a 1.5 hour drive from Camp Humphreys. Gongju is rich with culture and history. We walked along the 2.6 km Gongsanseong Fortress wall which was built during the Baekje Kindom. We also visited the Ancient Royal Tombs in Songsan-ri. The Gongsanseong Fortress and Ancient Royal Tombs in Songsan-ri are both UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
Gongju is known as the largest producer of chestnuts in Korea, so we indulged in some chestnut desserts at a local bakery and cafe.
We ended the night looking at pretty lights, tunnels, and sculptures from the Baekje Cultural Festival that was held on Mireuseom Island which is connected to the fortress side by a bridge. The 2021 Baekje Cultural Festival took place on September 25 - October 3.
