Garnet Peak - some of the best views in San Diego county!
While there are many great spots to hike in San Diego county, among the top locations is Garnet Peak. At 5,900 feet of elevation, this is one of the high points of the county; and one of the spots that consistently has the best scenery. Although there are many ways to reach the top, the best route leaves from Penny Pines, heads along the PCT, and the Laguna escarpment, providing great views for almost the whole 4.2 mile roundtrip hike. Irrespective of whether one is an experienced, or a novice hiker, this is a hike that never disappoints.

Garnet Ghost Town || Abandoned Mining Town In Rural Montana || Best Things to do in Montana
Best Things To Do In Montana & Our Airbnb -
From the 1860s to the 1890s there was a gold rush in the hills of Montana. Gold was struck and people flocked from all over to try and earn fortunes for themselves. Garnet Ghost Town was in the center of it all. Today there are several ghost towns that are still preserved with original buildings still standing.
We took an adventure to Garnet Ghost Town to see for ourselves. Garnet is located up on top of a mountain next to some beautiful campgrounds and hiking trails. We spend a couple hours walking around the trails and the town and it was amazing to see the classic style buildings and feel like you’re going back in time. Everything is very well preserved and incredibly informative. There’s even a cabin on site that you can rent in the fall and winter months. We most definitely plan on returning to see it for ourselves.

Garnet, January’s Birthstone, is NY State’s official gemstone.
Garnet Mines quarried the 20-ton (119 x 67 x 47 inch) block of garnet that is part of the foundation of the Freedom Tower at the site of Ground Zero in New York City.
One of the world’s largest concentration and formation of garnet was discovered in the 1870’s in North River.
Hours:
Open daily July thru Labor Day (Monday – Saturday 9:30PM-5PM, and Sunday 11AM-5PM). Also open weekends after Labor Day thru October 13th (Saturday 9:30AM-5PM, and Sunday 11AM-5PM).
Directions:
Garnet Mine Tours is located just 35 minutes from Lake George. Take Northway Exit 23 to Route 9. Travel north on Route 9 through Warrensburg. Left on Route 28 for approximately 21 miles to North River and left on Barton Mines Road for 5 miles to Gore Mountain Mineral Shop.
