Splendor of Autumn in Jangseong
Ride along a quiet, tree-lined road in the countryside, stretching below a deep blue cloudless sky. The cool breeze sends ripples through the golden fields, while beautiful villages form small groups below the mountain. The persimmon tree in one corner of the yard is heavy with deep orange persimmons. In a yard, an elderly villager is drying peppers, dyed deep red by the autumn sun. A cat enjoying the autumn sunshine on the wall stretches lazily. These unremarkable scenes, comforting in their warmth, are from Jangseong, the northernmost point of Jeollanam-do Province. Let’s take an autumn trip to Jangseong, where the comforts and wonders of nature are to be found all around.

Now we're diving into Korean foods hehe at one of the best things that we've tried while in Korea is unexpectedly 'THIS' one of a kind lunch box! Na available sa mga convenience stores in South Korea.

Kaya dapat talaga di nagcoconvert sa peso ang pinagbabasehan ko dun is ung benta nila ng Rice hahaha na nasa 1500 ata per cup. Pero sobrang sarap naman talaga niya hahaha parang pede mo siya icompare sa mga makakain mo rin sa mga fastfood. Sana magkaroon din ng mga ganto yung 7/11 or Ministop hehehe. Overall, nagustuhan ko tong Dosirak! Sayang lang di na ako masyado nakatikim pa ng iba! Siguro sa pagbabalik ko sa Korea mas magexplore ako ng foods sa convenience store ????

The Occupation of Photography in Occupied Okinawa
This lecture zeroes in on the topic of American participation in photography in occupied Okinawa. This participation came in many forms: as providers of photography-related jobs, technical training, and photographic materials to Okinawans; as customers of camera shops and pawn shops owned by Okinawans; and as producers of artistic and documentary photos of Okinawa. This last aspect—Americans as photographers in Okinawa—throws into relief the multiple lenses—Okinawan, Japanese, and American—through which Okinawa and its people were imaged, prompting a critical rethinking of what counts in a history of photography in Okinawa since 1945.
The discussion will be followed by a live Q&A moderated by Alan Christy, associate professor of History at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

Gerald Figal is a professor of History and Asian Studies at Vanderbilt University. He is author of Civilization and Monsters: Spirits of Modernity in Meiji Japan, a study of how traditional folk beliefs and a wider discourse on the mysterious and supernatural were variously reconfigured in the context of Japan’s modernization, and Beachheads: War, Peace, and Tourism in Postwar Okinawa, an examination of tensions between tourism development and war memorialization in postwar Okinawa. He currently has two ongoing projects: one deals with the business and practice of photography in Okinawa from 1945 to 1975; the other is a history of tetrapods—massive four-footed concrete blocks—on Japan’s coastline and in Japanese public imagination.
Alan Christy is an associate professor of History at the University of California, Santa Cruz. He is the author of A Discipline on Foot: Inventing Japanese Native Ethnography, 1910-1945, a study of the emergence of Japanese native ethnography (minzokugaku) as a social science in the first half of the twentieth century. He is the director of the Okinawa Memories Initiative, an international public history project exploring the transnational history of modern Okinawa and those people across the globe whose lives are connected to the islands. He is working on a book on the Yaeyama Wartime Malaria incident and the 1990s campaign for reparations. He is also the Provost of Cowell College at UC Santa Cruz.

When drinking alcoholic beverages, it is customary to serve one another, rather than serving yourself. You should periodically check your friends' glasses, and replenish them before they are empty. Likewise, if someone wants to serve you, you should drink to make room in your glass if it is full, hold it up for the person while they pour, and then take at least one sip before putting the glass down.
At the beginning of a meal or drinking party you should not start drinking until everybody at the table is served and the glasses are raised for a toast, which is usually kampai. Other toasts are acceptable, too, but note that chin chin refers to the male genitalia in Japanese and may not be the ideal word choice depending on the situation.
While it is considered bad manners to become obviously drunk in some formal restaurants, the same is not true for other types of restaurants, such as izakaya, as long as you do not bother other guests.
