100 views of Tokyo. A walk together with 19th century photographs. Episode 15: The last Edo Castle

The JCII Camera Museum has two photo albums entitled List of Famous Places in Tokyo, Japan. The photographs were taken from about 1870 to 1885. This series is IZAKURA Naomi, an Old Photography Researcher, introduces these two photo albums and photographs taken from the end of the Edo period to the Meiji period in comparison with the current cityscape. The era changed from the Edo period to the Meiji period, and Edo Castle was renamed the Imperial Palace. The landscape changes from Edo to Tokyo. The Daimyo Mansion was rebuilt into a Western-style building, and the Samurai, who had Wakizashi Katana and tied a Chonmage, stopped wearing swords and wore Western clothes with short hair. Please enjoy the scenery of Edo in the late Tokugawa period, Tokyo in the Meiji period, and the present Tokyo.
